Re: photos

Select the album in question, then click the Delete Album button at the top.

Re: Cannot add a file

After you free up some space to work with, you could download the photos that are huge, then upload them again after reducing the group size limit setting so that it will reduce them for you.? Then, using the recent feature, assign ownership to the person that originally uploaded them.? BTW, I've got my max size set to 312x312 and no one has complained, but we don't do serious graphics work, so it depends on the group.

Re: Poll Questions #poll

If the Change Vote button is active before someone votes (and I believe it is), I'd consider that a bug that should be reported to [email protected]

The main thing is that you have found the problem. If you look at "attachments" you may well find a lot of duplication because some of them may be "picture" information in members' sign - offs. It can also be quite problematic to match up old attachments with long - forgotten messages so IMHO all the attachments are good candidates for deletion.

I don't know for sure but I suspect that retrospectively reducing photo sizes won't work; that happens as part of the upload process.

As for your potentially unhappy subscriber he might just have to put up with it; You could always give him the option to either (a) lose a (large) number of his photos or (b) pay for an upgrade with greater storage. I would argue that he does not have any right to deny others the opportunity of uploading relevant photographs, and at the moment that is exactly what is happening.

As the Group Owner you have both the responsibility and the right to run the group for the benefit of all your members, not just for prolific uploaders. Is he simply using it as cloud storage?

Chris.

How do I delete photo albums???

Thanks

Poll Questions #poll

I'm running some test polls in my new group.
The email that contains the poll provides a link back to the group home. I see a collection of poll choices and a button that says "Change Vote"
I've already had a few members confused by this thinking that they may have accidentally already voted, or someone else voted for them etc.
Is there a reason the button wouldn't simply say "vote"?

Thanks in advance,?

Jean

No.? A non-subscriber is anyone that's not a member of your group(s).? Members and subscribers (same thing) are those that have joined your group, whether they access it by email or online.

This was your first post to GMF, and a rash statement is not a question.

Have you checked your file allocation? What do your settings look like? What symptoms are you having?

It doesn't matter what the files page says. Space is limited to total files + photos. For free groups, this limit is 1 GB. How big is the file that you're trying to upload?

Do what Dwayne said...go to Admin->Upgrade. Here you will see your total storage use.? If you are maxed out, I recommend changing the settings so old email attachments are deleted. Go to Admin->Settings->Message Formatting->Out Of Space, pull down the menu, and select "Delete Old Attachments."?

If you are NOT running out of space, there is something else wrong with your Settings.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

The "Files are Disabled" option takes away the Files option from the menu. So, it must not have been set that way if the original poster was able to access the files menu.

Re: Cannot add a file

Problem solved
I looked at Admin and found 225 Mb attachments, 680 Mb Photos, and 114 Mb for Files.
Clearly I need to clean house. The Photos are the most fruitful.

Next query is how to remove Photos that are not mine.
And how to reduce attachments that are not mine.
I know the subscriber that has the most, and he will be unhappy.
I did reduce the max size from 2048X2048 to 1024X1024.
Maybe I should cut it in half again?

Should I do a new query with the new Subject?
Thanks, Richard

Er... have you read my earlier post? Assuming that by "not upgraded" you are stating that you have a Basic Group the total storage, shared between File and Photos is 1 GB. There is no separate limit for Files. Check how much space is occupied by Photos.

Have you just migrated from Yahoo or has Groups.io hosted it for some time?

Duane, that's what I'm saying - there IS no member to approve.? It is blank.? 0 members to approve.?

Yes, but he is Owner / Moderator so it should not be that.

Lawrence:
I just tried it in one of my groups. I made sure that I had given myself permission and then created a folder. I then uploaded a Text file which got there OK and I was able to open it and read it.

I could set it to "Files are disabled" so that I could not upload a file.

Of course, the answer could be totally different.

Re: Subscribers v.s. Members

As I go through the settings I find one instance of the term "non-subscribers" ... it would be helpful if there was a better definition for each access level, like:

  • Non-Subscribers: people who go to a G.io site but don't log-in with email/password, so have very limited access
  • Subscribers: people who access a G.io site and login with email/password, so may have moderated access
  • Members: people who access a G.io site and login with email/password, so have full access if granted by the owner/moderator
So, after reading all the posts on this subject, are my interpretation of the 3 levels accurate? If not, there is still ambiguity and I respectfully suggest that more clarification in the SETTINGS area might stem the stream of questions regarding membership, subscription, non-subscription, etc.

Re: Cannot add a file

Not upgraded.
Files page says 115Mb used
All subscribers can view and upload
Just for fun, I looked at another small group and clicked on Files just to see if I could upload.
It did not reject the intent to upload.
Evidence is that Files section is Full.
What is the total max capacity allowed in Files?
Thanks, Richard

Yes, but he is Owner / Moderator so it should not be that.

However, although the Files are using 115 MB if the Group is "Basic" it will have a 1 GB storage limit shared with Photos and other lesser items. If there are Photos taking the current stored total too very close to 1 GB then it won't permit an upload.

So... is it a "Basic" Group with free storage limited to 1 GB or a paid - for group with more storage? And has the group recently been transferred from Yahoo?

Still worth checking settings though!

Chris

Shal,

Again, thank you.

You mentioned a work around, but I could not find it in the FAQ. Please point me in the right direction. I have a bad feeling that my problem is the godlike atmosphere at Microsoft, but I'd like to try the work around anyway.

I don't know if our messaging Microsoft would help or hinder the situation. If you believe the former, please post a good address to contact them.

?

Ken,

?

It seems odd in that I seem to receive and +moderator messages except the some of the ones I initiate.

?

?Actually, that's not odd at all; in fact it is rather common.

?

The symptom of not getting your own messages back (both group posts and +owner posts) has two causes.? One is the Gmail "feature" of hiding messages that you already have. And since you sent the message you already have a copy. That one is rather benign, it only hides the message from your Inbox, and Groups.io has a work-around.

?

The other is Microsoft's propensity for rejecting messages from you that come back to you. Their logic is that it must be evil because the message claims to be From you but it was delivered to them from some outside service. This one is pernicious because it results in an actual rejection, which can put your address in Bouncing status. It also may give Groups.io's servers a bad reputation in Microsoft's eyes.

?

I guess I'll just have to live with it if no one else is experiencing this.

?

You're not the only one, but there isn't much you can do about it other than changing email service providers.

?

Mark has mentioned working on getting Microsoft to handle Groups.io traffic reliably, but it is hard to get their attention much less cooperation.
