Re: How to Transfer a Yahoo Group, but Reduce the Photos Section
#howtoguide
Thanks Shal and Dano.? I suspect I may do a combination of suggestions - resize and possibly delete the very oldest.? Need to keep room for new photos.? My largest group's Photos section alone is 2 GB's.?
Second question:? I think I have a very small handful of of Yahoo Groups list members who went over and signed up for our inactive, placeholder Groups.IO mirror group.? Will that pose an issue when we transfer from Yahoo Groups to Groups.IO?? If so, I can try to unsubscribe them prior to the transfer.? And, what about members who have signed up for Groups.IO that are NOT Yahoo Groups members?? I assume their memberships will remain as is.?

Transfer Group from Yahoo

Need advice on which moderator permissions to set. . .
#moderation
Our group was transferred on June 1st & upgraded to the annual Premium subscription status. Transfer was amazingly smooth and quick and happened the 2nd day after our transfer request. I'm pleased that we chose the Premum subcription option since the extra features it offers are proving a huge timesaver dealing with the variously unsubscribed members that we were warned would happen.
Now my question: One of our moderators says he cannot see the Direct Add button under the Admin button when expanded. All he says he can see are the following four: Pending / Members / Subgroups / Activity He is set as a Moderator. So... Which of the blue button(s) under his Moderator Permissions must be checked to give him 'Direct Add' and 'Invite' permissions? All his MODERATOR PERMISSIONS ARE checked EXCEPT these five: Manage Subgroups Add or Modify Integrations Modify Group Settings Billing Set Moderator Privileges Which of the five above permission options will give him the needed permissions for 'Direct Add' and 'Invite' when selected? I'm learning as I go so bear with me. TIA Paul M. CRLOwner == |

It can take up to a week or two depending on how many there are in the queue.? Be patient it will come. Hi Ilene,
?
I've not been following this thread but suggest that instead of deleting the members that you put the group on moderation for posting. That way, the members can go back and look at past posts, photos, files etc. If any try to post, you would have to approve the post and can intervene then direct them to Groups.io.

Re: Setting message reply
That would be on the group Settings page.? Scroll down to Message Policies, then change it in the Reply To box.

How to Transfer a Yahoo Group, but Reduce the Photos Section
#howtoguide
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?????????????? Or, you could delete the ones you no longer need before starting the transfer. Assuming you can get that to work. ?????????????? I don?t know if this only refers to my old yahoo group, but I?ve been trying to delete the non-needed fotos there (of close to 1500) ever since we were transferred. But unfortunately it?s not possible to delete, neither fotos nor albums. ? Victoria ? |

Patty,
So, I have a couple of groups that have been in existence for about 8I concur with Dano's comment - when one of my groups faced this issue the transfer agent suspended the transfer long enough for me to select a lower resolution for the images. That brought the total in under 1 GB. Or, you could delete the ones you no longer need before starting the transfer. Assuming you can get that to work. Or, you might be able to request that the transfer agent skip the older folders. Or, you could upgrade to Premium for one month and take care of deleting enough to get back down under 1 GB after the transfer. That's assuming your total is under 10 GB. Ilene,
Just none of the messages moved and it hasn't been resolved. At the completion of the transfer you would have been sent a notice telling you what transferred and what didn't. Have you received that? And if so what did it say about messages? Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: email photos
Anita,
Also if my group has a topic every day that might be good morning isWhat Frances suggested would work, but only if you're posting by the group's web page (New Topic). Posting by email the match of the subject text causes them to thread together if they were posted within a couple days of each other. Every morning would be within that range. If posting by web is too inconvenient, your other option would be to vary the subject text slightly. Perhaps add the day of the week to the subject text, or something else to prevent each from being identical to another posted within a few days. When I transferred my largest group, Mark sent me an email and asked me if I wanted to keep the photos as they were, have him resample them down in size, or go premium. I went premium for a number of reasons, but I could have given approval to have him resample them so none were larger than 1024 x 1024. That would have dropped the total size from 1.7 Gb down to 413 Mb and easily have given us all the images at a size equivalent to the largest image that would fit on a single screen. That may be the solution to your situation, but not knowing how much space photos currently take up, that's not an absolute answer. When Mark ran the transfer he gave me the options, and knowing then what could be done made the solution pretty simple. That may be the best way for you to proceed. Dano ----- Original Message -----
I have a question - feeling it is time to transfer my Yahoo Groups over to Groups.IO, now, as it appears that Yahoo Groups has finally had the last nail placed in the coffin with the advent of true zero support. So, I have a couple of groups that have been in existence for about 8 years or more, and the Photos sections have become quite large. I am trying to keep my groups under the free size limit, as I don't have any way to charge my list members for a larger option. Is there any way I can reduce the number of photos that will transfer across? Or, after the transfer, is there a way I can delete or remove older photo albums? Both groups have photo albums that are set up by the month/year, so it is relatively easy to figure out which photo folders are the oldest, and just delete those older year's photo albums. Any suggestions would be very welcome. -- Patty S. |
