did yahoo finally bite the dust this morning?
J_catlady
Yahoo groups has been completely down for the past hour or so, with this message, one I've never seen before. I was just about to move my group over. Wondering if I waited a day too long and it's finally bitten the dust. In any case, I feel moving is now urgent, if it's even still possible: Could Not ConnectDescription: Could not connect to the requested server host. |

Oops, I made a mistake. Testing shows that having New Users Moderated checked results in the joining member being assigned the "Override: new user moderated" ('NuM') posting privilege, regardless of whether "Unmoderate After" is enabled or not. No matter, it has the same effect: if Unmoderate after is not enabled the new member remains moderated until you manually change their posting privilege. -- Shal |

If so, and if the giving group members are all also members of the chat group (or if that could be made a requirement) then perhaps the giving group could be a subgroup of the chat group. Re: [excess quote trimmed by moderator]
Hi Jim,
Do you insert the "[excess quote trimmed by moderator]" manually?I do. I noticed that you use the Preformatted markup tag. I really like yourIn Yahoo Groups I had taken to using Lucida Console, a fixed-pitch font, to make my notes distinct from the member's text, without being too garish. In groups.io there isn't a font choice, so the nearest equivalent was selecting Preformatted. I think it looks ok. -- Shal |
Re: Hashtag Question
Mark,
Is it possible to make it so that only moderators can populate the namesI see elsewhere that you've found that control. One of my concerns is that if users can make up their own hashtags thereIn addition to the Alias feature, you can also help members choose the right hashtag by providing text in the Description field for each hashtag. -- Shal |

Hi Shal,
Do you insert the "[excess quote trimmed by moderator]" manually? I noticed that you use the Preformatted markup tag. I really like your method. I also clean up messages before approving/publishing. Those who trim their quotes get unmoderated. Everyone else goes to the moderation queue. -- Jim Poston@... << 'Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?' >> |

Hashtag Question
Mark Bielecki
I have a question about hashtags that was not addressed in the groups.io FAQ. Is it possible to make it so that only moderators can populate the names of the available hashtags, i.e. users/members can only use a hashtag that has already been made available by the moderators or they have to ask a moderator to make a new hashtag? I would like to limit the number of hashtags to a manageable and easily identifiable group of available hashtags. ?One of my concerns is that if users can make up their own hashtags there will be literally hundreds of misspelled, unintelligible, or just plain useless hashtags cluttering up an otherwise very valuable tool; ?at some point having an overabundance of hashtags will make hashtags more of an annoyance than the useful tool that it promises to be. Also, posts are automatically transferred during the "easy transfer" procedure. Intro
Hi Shal and all -
I figured I should join this group on 'the other side' as you referred to it. I'd like to see how the experiments go here. I'm not having much luck getting members to test the groups I've set up so far. I'm a little concerned with the news coming out about Yahoo's future. I have a couple groups over there with extensive archives, and I think IO is in pretty good shape for what we really need. It would be nice to have the links, but if we can bring over the message archives through the transfer process, that would be the most critical. One think I hadn't thought of previously is the space available for messages. One group goes back to the days of onelist back in 1998. I'd hate to lose some of the archives because we exceeded storage space immediately. I can't find the space the message archives currently take up om Yahoo, but we've just passed 8500 messages. That's enough noise for for now. Thanks! Dano |

Donna, I didn't ask any question about photo constraints, so I don't know what this is about. I've been happy with my cover photos on all of my Groups.io groups so far. Thanks. Olivia_J On Tue, Dec 15, 2015 at 11:54 AM, Donna <pnwfemale@...> wrote:

Olivia,

There does not seem to be any constraints to the photo that you can have on your group's home page.? It doesn't necessarily have to be shaped like the cover photos that are on Yahoo Groups.? Take a look at my group:? /g/Artists_Cafe
You can also look at my friend's group:? /g/BreastCancer2Group

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI personally think 's cover photo is more equivalent to YG's 'title photo,' because that's the at the top. The home page photo on YG is halfway down the page. But it doesn't really matter!
