You need to look at your privacy settings.

Thanx Bruce... That's the option that I was loooking for. Wasn't clear which would be the best way to effect that.

You might also want to change the group to an Announcement Group to keep those
who have already joined from posting. You can always change things back after the
transfer.?
I have the group already set so that only moderators may post. Is that sufficient if 'Restricted Membership' is invoked?

Much appreciated . . .

Re: Member receiving daily summaries when "NO EMAIL" selected

You should also be sure the "no email" option is even available to your subscribers. Go to Admin->Settings->Message Policies and make sure "Disable no email" is NOT checked.

There is no one within groups.io management associated with this forum. Send such inquiries to [email protected]

The search engine is word-based. To search on a string (like an email address), you have to put it in quotation marks.

Problem with searching messages

debbie

I'm having a problem with searching messages. I click on 'messages' and I get all the messages starting with the most recent. That's OK. Then I try to do a search and all I get are messages from more than a year before my group was moved. (All the messages were moved.) What am I doing wrong? I'm putting in someone's email address (and I tried it with my own, too) and if I set it for the last three days, I get nothing.

Members Joining inactive group while we wait for transfer: Can Onwer block them? #transfer

Hello Shal, Moderators (& All),

Yesterday I initiated my group's transfer request and have receivee a confirmation from Groups.io that my request was accepted. Now we must wait until we reach the head of the queue of other groups waiting for their transfer for our transfer to actually begin. I understood that at this time there is likely about a two-week backlog of other groups ahead of us.

I posted the above info (Shal's letter, modified) to the membership of my group via Special Notice and told them that all we need to do now is wait for the transfer to begin and the members will be transferred automatically. I also explained to them that the new group is not yet active. It is currently set so that only Moderators may post, and none of us (Moderators) are posting anything, yet. (Incidentally the membership has been told that we will be leaving the old group open and active for at least another month after the transfer is effected, and that they may continue to post there.)

Despite these explanations several members have come to our new group site on Groups.io and joined it.

So my question is: Is there any useful setting that I could use so that no more members can join early? Well, at least not until after the transfer takes place! Or would such a setting interrupt the transfer of our membership, messages, files, etc., when the time comes?

Comment & suggestions welcomed.

Cheers!

@mentions

Greetings,

Will the ability to call out members by @mentions like in Facebook or Slack be available soon? I saw an exchange mentioning the end of 2017 /g/beta/message/11401?p=Created,,%40username,20,2,0,7039895

Thanks

Member receiving daily summaries when "NO EMAIL" selected

Hi All,

We have a member who has chosen not to receive e-mails, but is receiving the daily summaries. Is there a way to prevent the summaries from being emailed?

?

Thanks,
Ken

Re: Members not receiving group emails

Marie,

I just went to their accounts and All Messages was not checked.
It is interesting that they'd have done that and not remembered it. Or maybe they didn't understand what Following Only means and how it works. They might find this useful:

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Help-Mock-up#Advanced-Preferences

Tell them to read on into the section that follows, on Muting and Following.

Heck! I didn't even know that was there!
Then you may be interested in that page also. ;-)

It can be a very handy feature in groups such as GMF and beta where you may be receiving more email than you'd want. Following Only lets you receive just emails on topics of interest to you. First Message Also and Auto Follow Replies are good companions to that selection.

Shal

Re: Email Change Help Please!

Laurie,

They changed their emails and passwords under Account.
I see the correct emails in the directory.
By "correct" you mean the new addresses?

Also a note on terminology: you would only see their email addresses in the group's Members list; the Directory is different and only has profile info.

Now neither can login at all.
One has already posted and uploaded a file. The other had not yet
even posted.
You mean that the one posted and uploaded before changing his/her email address? Otherwise what Bruce said applies: if it were after then that would be evidence that he/she did in fact log in after the change.

What is the best way to handle this?
There's not much you can do to help them, other than feed them information such as that Bruce has provided.

One thing to look for is the "NC" badge on their email address in your group's Members list. If that is present then the member hasn't confirmed their new email address, which will prevent the member from receiving messages. They'll have to confirm the address, which they can do as a step in logging in to the site.

Can I find out if they have duplicate groups.io accounts?
Not directly, but you can infer it.

For each one, look in your group's Activity log. Put the member's full email address (the new one) into the search box and click Search. That should tell you whether the member actually changed their address, or whether they simply joined your group under the new address.

In the latter case that member likely has two accounts, search also for his/her old address to verify whether it is still a member or whether they left the group under the old address.

If a member's new and old address are both present in the group's Members list at the same time then you know they have duplicate accounts; one under each address.

Yes...in separate browser windows.

Also, when we're "chatting", the most recent doesn't always appear. ?It seems as if everyone has left!
That is, until you hit refresh or happen to type something anyway, then it's like "surprise", heres some line of type, the other person was talking all along!
Chat text isn't sent in real time...you have to press Enter.?

I should also mention that just entering a new email address and clicking on the "Change Email" button does NOT automatically update it. They also must respond to the confirmation email that is sent when the button is pressed.
