Re: Can we translate the interface of our IO group?

This is on the TODO list, but it's not a simple change, so there isn't an estimate for when it will happen.?

Can we translate the interface of our IO group?

Heijo Alting

Will groups.io offer an option to translate the interface of individual groups? I mean the menu structure on the left (Home, Guidelines, Subscription, Messages, etcetera)?

Members not receiving group emails

Marie Alline

I have a couple of members in one of my groups who is having trouble receiving emails from the rest of the group. The group was originally set up to return to sender and they changed it to return to group, These two gals are able to send and receive their own emails but are not able to receive any of the other member emails. Would this be a problem from the original setting?

These two also use gmail and I noticed while setting one of my groups up that someone was reporting problems here? on the message boards with gmail and groups.io.

I'm just trying to get to the bottom of their issues and help them figure out how to handle this. Any input is much appreciated. Thank you!?

If you have a "sent mail" folder, you can access the out[gone] message and resend to the group email address. If you replied using the web interface, there is no way of retrieving it.

My groups are set to "reply to group," with other reply options disabled. If you're the group owner and you expect this to be default behavior, I recommend you do the same. All messages contain the originating email address, and I'd really like to think my subscribers are fully capable of sending a personal message offline as needed.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

I ran into one this morning for the first time that had a "No, I don't want your cookies" option.? Only problem is, it didn't work, just sat on the same page and allowed me to do nothing.

Yes, it seems I've been getting "this site uses cookies" notifications just about everywhere I go lately. As if I didn't already know.

Bonnie,

Love your comments about cookies. LOL
A bit of off-topic mockery, as I didn't find much else noteworthy in this week's updates.

It started as a rant about whether it is really helpful to put the same notification on (nearly) every site on the internet. But then I decided I didn't like the negative tone that resulted. My apologies to those who take the privacy aspects of browser cookies seriously.

________________________________________________________________________________

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

NEW: The website now requires consent for cookies.
I generally consent to cookies. Except when they're minty.

NEW: Added cookie policy.
My policy is all chocolate chip, all the time. Plus the occasional
Do-si-do or Trefoil (when it is Girl Scout cookie season).

Comments about these others are also welcome:

NEW: Revamped terms of service/privacy policy/about/cookie policy
sidebar navigation.
BUGFIX: Fixed infinite loop when finding a File path in a specific
case.
INTERNAL: Made it easier to profile the web servers in production.
NEW: Account export lets you specify which groups to export data from,
and the export is better broken out by group.
SYSADMIN: Added an additional webserver.
CHANGE: We now parse a bunch more incorrect Date: header line formats,
where the day of the week is spelled out (Monday) and/or the month
is spelled out (January).
Please call out any you find significant.

Re: Accepting/rejecting event invites

Randy Thomson

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

As others have noted the option is not available in free groups. There is a workaround, although it won¡¯t be tied to an event announcement. Create a poll announcing the event with the vote options you mentioned ¡°Will attend¡±, ¡°Will not attend¡± and ¡°May attend¡±. You can set it to show the identity of each person who responds, and what they selected. Unfortunately you can¡¯t force a response, so you will probably have a lot of unknowns.

Hi,

I'm new here, trying to move from a Facebook group. I like the interface and features, but can't seem to figure out if it's possible to track groups members response to an event invite?
In Facebook, you can say yes, no or maybe to an invite, and tracking is available from the event. Is this possible here?

Thanks.

It is not clear to me whether any group member is allowed to export any data from his/her group.
i.e. can a group member export all the archives, photos, files, etc. of the group he/she is subscribed to? Or is it a feature limited to moderators/owners?
In my group, Members' List and Directory are visible only to mods & owner, so I presume that members cannot export those data?

Thank you for your help.
Marina

?Marina,

Since ordinary members don't have access to "Admin/Settings" which is where the command to export group data is, then they can't do an group data export.

Of course, under "Account", everyone has the option to export their own account information.

Re: Invitations to subgroups

Bruce,

I¡¯m curious if there is a way to tailor invitations to sub-groups so
that an invitee can only join a subset of the subgroups of a main
group.
You can only invite people to the primary group.

Once someone is a member of the primary group, each subgroup's setting applies as to whether a member of the primary group can see the subgroup, and whether members of the primary group can join the subgroup without restriction.

it appears that the only way to allow membership to a subset of
subgroups is to invite to the main group and then, after the member
joins that, either allow them to join the groups you want them in, and
reject their attempts to join the others, or open subgroups under
Admin and check the appropriate boxes.
Using the checkboxes does not restrict a primary group member from attempting to join any subgroup, only restricting the subgroup's membership does that.

As best I can tell, other then requiring approval to join and
rejecting the request, there isn¡¯t any way to specifically invite to a
subgroup and restrict other subgroups from that member¡ right?
Sort-of. Requiring approval to join is the only way to keep primary group members from joining a given subgroup. There is no way I know of to invite a person, primary group member or not, directly to a subgroup.

Membership in one subgroup does not imply any special access to or ability to join another subgroup.

Re: Hiding the number of members on home page

John,

Is it possible, either by itself or hiding Group Information - at
least from the public?
Not that I know of.

You could drop that in the groups.io suggestion box:
