Re: [email protected] not working for me

The original owner named the group CADXA_SHARE1 . Would the underscore be a problem?

Have you clicked the green button "Start a New Transfer" and entered name of Yahoo group followed by name of the new group, etc? That is the Step 1. Inviting [email protected] is the second step and must be done after Step 1. There is clearly worded note saying this. If you just send invites without going through Step 1 it will not work.?

Once the invite has been accepted, then you need to go to the Easy Yahoo Transfer page and start the process.

Re: [email protected] not working for me

Here is the process. It is not automated and will take several days. Do not do anything out of order.

  1. Go here:?/
  2. At the bottom of the page, you'll find a link that says "Easy Group Transfer." Click it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the subsequent page and click on the big blue button labelled "Yahoo Group Instructions."
  4. Read the instructions carefully. Bookmark this page, too. You will come back here several times.
  5. Create your groups.io group and configure it according to your needs.?[NOTE: You will receive an email when your request for a group has been approved. This alone could take up to a day.] (You have now completed Step 0 of the instructions)
  6. To upgrade the group to the Premium plan, select Admin>Upgrade from the left-side menu bar and click on the blue "View/Change Plan" button. Select "Premium Yearly" (one-time cost of $110). You can downgrade later.
  7. Once you have your groups.io group set up, return to the bookmarked page. Click on the big green button at the bottom that says "Set Up New Transfer."
  8. Enter the name of your Yahoo group and the name of your groups.io group. Do NOT enter any domain information (i.e.: leave off @yahoogroups.com or @yahoogroups.co.uk), just the group names.
  9. Click the big green "Start Group Transfer Process" button at the bottom of the page. (You have now completed Step 1 of the instructions)
  10. Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]." If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at??(You have now completed Step 2 of the instructions)
  11. BE PATIENT. Accepting the invitation is the longest step in the process, and requires human intervention (solving a CAPTCHA).?You DID send the invitation from your Yahoo group, didn't you?
  12. BE EVEN MORE PATIENT. If you want to confirm status during this long wait, see /g/GroupManagersForum/message/8352?. There will be a status box at the top of the resulting page. If all is well, it should say something like: "We have received your invitation and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." Note: Sending additional invitations in an attempt to hurry things up seems to have the opposite effect.?
  13. You will eventually receive an email stating that the Yahoo group invitation has been accepted. (You have now completed Step 3 of the instructions)
  14. Return to your YAHOO GROUP and log in. Promote "[email protected]" to a Moderator. Instructions for this can be found at?.
  15. Now return to the groups.io page that you bookmarked in #4 above. Pull down the menu at bottom right and select the group you're ready to transfer. On the resulting page, click the green "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button at bottom right. (You have now completed Step 4 of the instructions)
  16. BE PATIENT AGAIN. The ability to actually do the transfer depends on how well Yahoo's servers are operating. We all know what that means, right?
  17. You may notice activity in your new groups.io group, which may reflect partial completion of the process. Do not obsess about this.?
  18. When the transfer is done, you will receive an email from the transfer agent summarizing what it was able to transfer. It will also list whatever things it was?not?able to transfer. Until this email is received, you aren't done yet.
  19. Rejoice.
Most of us have "been there" with this process before and it all sounds easy in hindsight. Ironically, the same thing that's causing most people to abandon Y!G (server downtime) is exactly the same thing most likely to get in the way of completing the transfer process. The best time to initiate a transfer is when Yahoo is performing well. If you procrastinate until things are crashing and burning, delays, incomplete transfers, and other such frustrations can be expected.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Correct. The ability to Direct Add someone without at least including a message and a link to immediately opt out is something that would get groups.io in trouble very quickly.

Hi Sarah
?
Login to groups.io account and then go all the way to the bottom of the page (any page). Click "Easy Group Transfer" button. In the next page again go all the way to the bottom and click the "Yahoo Group Instructions" button. This opens the page listing the steps you need to take in the numbered sequence. At the bottom of this page you will see the "Start a New Transfer" button.?
?
Good luck

Multiple invites have no more effect than one invite, and only fill up the queue. Have you checked out the recent messages on the topic of Y! Group transfer in this group? Recently they have indicated the delay has been up to two weeks, due to a back log. How long have you been waiting?

Sounds like you haven't followed the instructions. If you had then the transfer agent would know your Y!Group's name. Pay attention to the text in the red box at the top. The green box too, for that matter.

I tried email [email protected] but it just says 'non-deliverable'.

?

I don't know what the problem is there. Maybe double-check that you're not accidentally selecting an address book entry (or auto-complete) for support that has a typo in it. If that's not the problem feel free to send me (off-list) the non-delivery message that you get and I'll forward it for you.

Sarah,

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the problem. It’s not a button. “Easy Group Transfer” is a link. Is that not what you’re looking for?

Randy T

[mod note: the link at the bottom of each page takes you to a page to select Yahoo or Google group, which takes you to the Yahoo Instructions page, which has the previously mentioned green button.]

Re: Direct Add without Email to User #addmembers

Dan,

Yes,? it's in the 2nd set of check boxes you get when you actually start the trasnsfer process which is after the user is annointed moderator in the Yahoo group

Good to know, thanks.
?
I think you can edit the boiler plate - at least that is the implicaqtion.? In the Group Settings page, the top menu has a button for "Member Notices".? where you can apparently add or modify the boiler plate messages.?

Nope. The text there (for a Direct Add notice type) is only the inserted portion, the remainder of the Direct Add message is outside your control. This is also true for Invite type of member notice.
?
There is a check box there also for "Active" which I don't understand and it seems that if the "active" box is unchecked you get a default message and if it is checked but the text box for the message is empty you also get the default.?

Both those statements are true.

You can have more than one saved notice of type Direct Add, the one marked Active becomes the default inclusion on the Direct Add page. There ought to be (IMO), but isn't, a drop-list on the Direct Add page to pick one of the saved texts on the spot. That would be more convenient than having to pre-plan which one to make Active before clicking on Direct Add.
?
I just don't see a way to not send a message at all and based on replies I've gotten here it seems you can't turn it off completely.

I believe that not being able to eliminate it is by design.

Are you receiving emails from a Groups.io group but have never visited the Groups.io website? You probably don't have a password set up yet. Use the Email me a link to log in button above to log into the website.

Perhaps also emphasize Yahoo on this statement there:

We will accept the invite and then send you an email directing you to
make the [email protected] member a moderator *of your Yahoo group*.

Go to the Groups.io home page. In the list of your groups, what badges are showing next to the group name NB6GC?

We could be more helpful to you if you would answer Frances' question directly, rather than making an unrelated statement.

Following up on Duane's comment, what does the page show you in the location where Reply should be in the bar under the message? Refer to the screenshot below for an example:

If you could provide a screenshot of what you are seeing in your group's messages that might be most helpful in figuring out why you see no Reply.
