In addition to the unfamiliarity of the whole thing, they are afraid of breaking something and the whole world will fall down.

"Edit email" also means edit messages, I think. Or is that on a different page?

I have one group that uses messages as archives to store and find community information so members are allowed to edit their messages so they will be correct.

On another list, a discussion list, people often claim to have said or to not have said things others want to confirm. Members of that list are not allowed to edit messages.

It¡¯s working so far.

I thought it was not supposed to be allowed, but maybe it is possible that the member ended up with one address listed as an alias of the other anyway - despite them being listed as separate accounts also.
It is possible as long as there are two email addresses. You sign in separately for the two accounts. I have some people with 3 or 4 addresses. All are set to no mail except the one they want to receive from. They do it because the are in work environments where they can¡¯t (or don¡¯t want to) receive email but want to send messages from that work address. You don¡¯t have to use an alias.

We deleted the gmail account, BUT I contacted the tech person at the subscriber¡¯s professional address and discovered that she does have her professional address forwarded to her gmail address¡ªshe didn¡¯t understand that. I just can¡¯t get her to understand why gmail thus becomes the sender.

She doesn¡¯t have an alias ¡ª neither of us know how to set one up.

How would an alias work? And would it help? I¡¯m trying to get her to use a client on her computer like Apple Mail or Outlook. Then all her mail would be in one place but be able to use separate addresses.

Re: Starting the Easy Transfer process + Bouncing Members. . . . #transfer

That's kinda what I was remembering, Doug, but I just wasn't fully clear on whether the person inititating the transfer needed to de-select 'bouncing members' somehow before starting the transfer process.

Thanx!

No...in principle, a subscriber "owns" his profile. But I do understand. I have one person who decided to upload a TIFF file for his profile picture. Although this image fails to render in most browsers he seems uninterested in fixing it.?

You can alter the information in their entry in the Member's List, though, including Moderator notes.

Hope this helps,

This is one of those things that needs better explanation in the system Help. I think the answer to your question is yes, but you're using the wrong terminology; the Member's List and the Directory are not the same thing.

The Member's List is found under the Admin section and is used to manage subscriptions (send +owner messages, view a subscriber's activity history, handle bouncing accounts, etc.). The Directory is an index of subscriber profiles, and when activated, appears on the group's main menu (along the left side). All subscribers appear in the Member's list, along with their email addresses and possibly other personal information. As previously mentioned, a subscriber will not have an entry in the Directory unless they create a profile and opt in (or if the owner is logged in and viewing it).

If you go to Admin->Settings->Privacy, the second drop-box determines visibility for the Directory (profiles) and the third is for the Member's List (subscriber management). I suggest making the former visible to Subscribers and the latter visible to owners and moderators only. I also suggest that all owners create a second account for themselves using a second email address so they can see what their group looks like and how it performs without their special Owner permissions.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Can moderators/owners load member's profile pictures

Is there?a way for moderators to upload/store profile pictures in member's profiles? ?I've looked and searched and can find nothing on the topic. ?We have a group which includes some technically non-savvy members and would like to have the moderators be able to help them do this. ?(It's better than waiting until their grandkids are around to help them.)

I didn't find much info on either except in the beta group, but I'll try to explain them.? (BTW, you can read posts there without being a member, )

When someone creates a new account on Groups.io, they are sent an email with a link to click on that verifies (confirms) that email address.? Sometimes this goes to the spam folder or is otherwise overlooked.? On a Premium group, you can confirm an email address for that person.? On a Basic group, you can send them another Confirmation email.

Edit Email means that you can edit someone's email address for them.? It's simple enough for them to do it themselves, but we all have members that aren't comfortable using a computer, so this can save time.

Hello Paul,

Someone else may have already posted an answer, but here goes.

In the transfer process, If I remember correctly, bouncing members are not transferred from Yahoo to Groups.io.

G'Mornin' Shal, Bruce,

When starting the transfer process there are severl selections which can be selected or de-selected, one of which is 'membership'.

My question is:? Is there some way to leave the bouncing members behind?? Our CRL membership count is some 7,000+/- and a significant portion of those are bouncing.

So, I have forgotten; does the Groups.io transfer process automatically leave those bouncing members behind, or is there some way to de-select the 'bouncers' short of just deletng them all prior to starting the transfer to Groups.io?? All I see on the transfer start-up page here is 'Membership' and no breakdown of it.

I know there was something posted about this which was discussed recently but I cannot locate that thread, sorry.

OK ¡ª TIA

I'm sure that this is at least one of the reasons that you now get an email from Groups.io when they receive the invitation.? About all you can do is keep trying to send one and hope you happen to send it when Y! is working.

Transfer not working

Hi

I have been trying to transfer my Yahoo group over but no luck. I have sent (several times) invites?[email protected]?but apparently it is not sent out by the Yahoo system. To confirm I invited a friend and he too did not get the invite from the group. What are my alternatives??

TIA

Re: Disable Digest Option

Absolutely correct Bruce! If the compiled art is available broken up in different files, which is the case with both the messages available online and with the digests, people are more likely to pirate graphics. Copyright compliance is very important to me, therefore removing the objects of temptation are very desirable. Most of my members are very good and I don't have a problem with it normally, but once in awhile I get someone who is just looking for the opportunity to snag things that they should not, so it's those few I am concerned about. Thanks for your input!

You can tell if this is true, for the subscription(s) that still exist, by looking at their page from the Members list to see if it shows an Alias email address.

Re: Bouncing

Bob,

1. The person that is bouncing....his email address is evidently
hosted by GoDaddy ...
Typically, he would receive at most 20 emails per day from groups.io
That may be considered too many from a single sender, if it were not understood that the sender is an email list service.

Have the person try to contact their list service to whitelist Groups.io. You could post it (citing the member's Email Delivery History) to [email protected].

2. I also see that a lot of people using an Apple mail account are
bouncing with the following message -
I'd expect that Mark is already following their "best practices", with the possible exception of aligning the header From with the sender From, which they didn't state explicitly but hinted at with "Use a consistent From: name and address to clearly identify your brand".

Is there anything that can be done to correct this?
Not from your end. Encourage such group members not to mark group messages as spam, nor to fail to notice and mark as not spam any group messages that Apple might deliver to their junk folder instead of their Inbox. Beyond that you or the user could report the Email Delivery History item to [email protected].
