Re: Members receiving post at different times

Just something you might think about using, if it is an issue with members' settings.

There is a hashtag for Special Notices that overrides members' personal settings (digest, etc.)?

Special notices: If a hashtag is set to Special, all messages tagged with it, including the original message in the topic and all replies, will be sent as Special Notices. Note: hashtags set to Special cannot be muted. Also, only moderators and owners can send Special Notices. If a normal subscriber replies, their message will be sent as a normal message.

Note - I think that "no mail" overrides Special Notices. That's why my groups are set to disallow "no mail".

Frances

Re: db column types and sorting

If you make all numbers the same length and pad them with prefix zeroes where needed, they sort correctly. You might suggest the numeric type addition on the beta group.

Re: Members receiving post at different times

If any of the members have a setting other than Individual Messages for delivery, that would change their delivery time. Otherwise, their email service should have received it the same time yours did. I'd ask them to check the headers to see if they can find where the delay occurred.

db column types and sorting

Is there a work-a-round?for sorting numeric?data? That is to say. It looks to?me like numbers in a column is getting?sorted as if they were alpha characters i.e.? 110, 128, 141, 21, 25, 40....when it should be 21,25,40,110,128,141. I'd think a column type of numeric would resolve it, but I don't see that option.

TIA
Lew?

Re: Copy group

No, each group is totally separate. Since there are so many settings in various places, I can see how you might overlook something. If I were going to try, I'd probably open each group in a separate tab in my browser and try to go page by page to make them match.

Members receiving post at different times

Our group has daily discussions led by a panelist. The panelist for today posted his topic this morning about 2:45 [Mountain]. Some of our members say that they didn't get it until this afternoon. I received it when it was sent.

Does anyone have an idea what might cause this to happen?

Thank you,
Paula Parker

Not only to find AWOL members from their new home is a backup archive important, it adds insurance of retention of all your list's posts until the transfer and if you list has valuable content, this insures its content will not be permanently lost if adverse events occur on one of the archives. I have had such adverse events, so I am not writing from a hypothetical position here. One can even keep posting to the old archive all new posts to continue the backup.

May I suggest you do not delete the YG but make it moderated.
That way you can catch any of your members who have not logged in to GIO.

I thought of that too late for one of my transfers.

Copy group

Is there a way to "copy" a group to a new group and include all the settings in the new group. ?I've searched and can not find?anything, but hoping I just missed it.

Peace,
Tom

Re: three yahoo groups to one GIO group? #subgroups #transfer #yahoo

That's how I was planning to organize it. I was mainly asking about transferring the Yahoogroups, with each groups' files/archive/etc.? Can it be done properly and automatically, or will I have to do anything special, or what, without scrambling/overwriting ?

You can also select the Messages view (instead of Topics) and enter the message number in the box at the upper right. It will be the first one on the results page.

Scott, I found it by searching for Bob Bellizzi and then selecting message #1429 from the list (thankfully there weren't many messages to scroll down to find it).?

Re: Yahoo now OATH

Bob, I'd like to see that, but searching the group messages for 1429 or #1429 yields nothing but this message. Can you provide a direct link, or better way to search for a message number?

Thank you.

Scott

Re: Is there a way to force "via groups.io"? #issue

Why don't you simply report this as a bug to [email protected],?attaching sufficient documentation to back it up.
I reiterate the claim, previously stated, that Mark is sensitive to bugs and typically jumps right on them.

BTW your complant about fixing others' bugs reminds me of how long so many people put up with yahoo's crappy stuff and Microsoft's in many cases.
I did a lot of that as Microsoft's first commercial customer (for Basic on the 8080) in the early 1970's when they were working out of a single room at Altair's offices in AZ.??
Use of groups.io is strictly on a voluntary basis.?
If I felt that groups.io didn't perform up to my expectations and I was paying for the service, as I am, I would be looking elsewhere.

You can compose a Pending Subscription notice that will be emailed to

I would also sugget that you read my post #1429?on this group to see how I set up a "signpost" to encourage those who found our Yahoo group to come over to join us on groups.io.? It's pretty simple but very effective.

three yahoo groups to one GIO group? #subgroups #transfer #yahoo

I have three yahoo groups for a single club:? SoARChat, SoARBusiness, and SoARBOD.? The first is for anyone, the second is for paid members of the club, and the third is for the board of the club, with corresponding permissions.? The main problem with this set up is the potential for double- or even triple-posting, and members who forget to subscribe to the chat, and so miss the general discussions, or members who forget to subscribe to the business group and never get event updates/cancellations.??

It sounds like I can just set up a single GIO group, and set it up to have the subgroups Chat, Business, and BOD.? Each subgroup would have its own settings. Then I would just assign the subgroups to people as they subscribe to the main group.? ?

would I be able to transfer the three groups (with their associated files/photos/data/archive) to the new group without scrambling things up? Or can the transfer of each go to a subgroup vs. the main group???
