Yes you can set up a test group. BUT think before naming it. Once aI think there is a simple way around that: rename the group before deleting it. I believe that in a rename the old name becomes available immediately instead of being reserved. NOTE: There is no obvious way for group owners to delete oldNot so. If you're a moderator with the "Edit Archives" privilage, or an owner, you can delete individual messages using the "More" menu when you open a specific message, or when see a list of messages in Topic View or Expanded View. You can also delete a whole topic by opening the topic and clicking the Edit Topic button at the top then the red Delete Topic button on the edit page. Shal |

Can I start a new group and invite a few people for testing purposesAs Joeseph and J said, yes you can. In fact you need to create your Groups.io group before you can start the transfer (copy). There is no time limit for initiating the transfer. I say "copy" above because nothing is changed in your Yahoo Group - memberships and messages are copied. There are some things you'll want to prepare in advance. If you want your Y!Group members to automatically receive a message from you welcoming them to Groups.io you can do that by customizing the Welcome message, in the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page. You can also set default subscription options for new members in the Default Sub Settings tab, but be aware that each Y!Group member's Email Delivery setting will be copied from their Yahoo Group membership, superseding the default you set. Each Y!Group member's posting privilege (Use Group setting, Moderated override, Unmoderated override, or Can't Post override) will also be copied over. Shal |

Once a group name has been used, it becomes unavailable without jumping through some significant hoops.? ??So the safest bet is to NOT name it something you plan to use. ??That allows you to keep the group off the radar, play with adding fake members, fake documents, fake wiki stuff, etc.? You can adjust settings various ways until it¡¯s configured the way you want, etc. etc. ? Another approach, which I used in transferring my groups from Yahoo, ?is to establish the ¡°real¡± name for the test group, set the settings (if you¡¯re already clear what you want) send a few test messages, and then ¡¡ let ¡®er rip by going through the process of adding all of your ¡°real¡± members.? So, the test group will become your permanent group.? That¡¯s what I did.?? ? NOTE:? Hi everyone, in one of my groups that I own here on Groups.io I saw inNo. There is no way to prevent members from deleting their own content, and I believe that is a deliberate design choice. In Yahoo Groups the concept was embedded in the TOS: Yahoo claimed only a license to display a user's content until such time as the member (or Yahoo) removes it (cf. section 9a). The implication is that the member must retain the ability to delete his/her content. By contrast, Groups.io claims an irrevocable license to display the content (and I consider that a concern with these terms). So in theory the software need not preserve the member's ability to delete the content. But in practice it does. Shal |

Many Thanks J_Catlady, I've spent the last 5 years with 4 different groups in 'Flakey' Yahoo, but without?any provider support I have had to give up on of them all in the end. I've now started up 2 groups using groups.io?for two different clubs I belong to and so far it's been great. Fingers crossed Barry? |

No-one except us group owners/moderators would ever think it¡¯s still in beta. ??There¡¯s been an occasional wrinkle, but that¡¯s where the WONDERFULNESS starts.???? While we were on Yahoo, everyone just had to work around its defects and lapses because there was an inpregnable wall between us and Yahoo.?? Mark Fletcher who developed and runs Groups.io, is wonderfully responsive.? ? The business purpose of Yahoo Groups is to provide eyeballs to marketers in exchange for advertising revenue.?? Yahoo doesn¡¯t fundamentally CARE whether every group owner and individual in a group can actually use the tool.??? Mark Fletcher comes at it from the opposite angle;? his view is that the users will see value in ?(and be willing to pay for) being able to find others with similar interests and communicate/collaborate with one another. ????I was quite willing to pay the fee for my groups because my groups have serious business we do together. ?
