OK, I guess I was simply logged out.
How can I stay logged in? And am I logged into a single Group site or Groups.io in general. I was able to post here because I had already logged back in to one of my groups. Thanks for your help! -- Richard |
Re: Invitation to +owner to connect on Linkedin
LinkedIn is one of those annoying sites that seems to use a person's address book to send out "spam".? Based on my experience, it does seem to be one of the few that will honor the unsubscribe link in the email.

Invitation to +owner to connect on Linkedin
I have set my +owner address to receive all mails so that prospective members can contact me as the group owner even if they are not subscribed yet.
Everything worked fine but in the last days I have received twice to the address +owner an invitation to connect to a person on Linkedin. This person is unknown to me, she is not a member of my group (at least, with the name shown in the invitation) and I am not on Linkedin with the +owner address. How is this possible? Has anyone had a similar experience? Marina |
Re: Accuracy of Yahoo Member List Export?
#addmembers
Thanks for the link to the Chrome app for downloading more data fields from Y! group membership.? I'm still curious why the "First Name" and "Last Name" fields shown in the Y! group list aren't included in either of the exports.?
I think I'll update the "Direct Add" wiki page I created to include the link to the chrome app. I had never cleared "bouncing" members from the Y! group, so I did that prior to initiating the transfer, though I did take an export that included them.? If that will create any kind of an issue during the "easy transfer" of old Y! group content, I could temporarily "Direct Add" them here. Also, Kudos for making server responses for email non-delivery available - it made my explanation to those affected more convincing. John |

Dash, someone said that Mark was on vacation this week.? A few weeks ago, he said he had 400 groups to move? (and I'll bet that number has increased dramatically) so be patient.??? I know it's hard to be patient when you're dealing with the yahoo mess, but he will get all the groups transferred just as soon as he can.? I just hope he doesn't sell it (meaning groups.io like he sold yahoo)?so that someone else can mess up all his work.
hugs,

Re: how can I edit messages?
Thanks, Shal? - I'm not sure why (or even if) some posts are topics and some are messages?? We're using this a bit differently that most folks - nearly all of our posts are one-time messages.?
If the 'search' button doesn't appear at the top, then the menu from the 'more' button on the bottom isn't what you show.
How do I change the "edit archives" privilege?
Your help (and expertise!) is greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Re: Reply Vs Reply-all
Dan,
Can someone give me some guidance here on how to set things up so that members can choose on a message by message basis which group of people their reply should go to? Posting from the group's Messages section, with the group's Reply To option set to Group, and without removing the other options... After the member clicks Reply on a message there will appear beneath the message composition box both a green Reply to Group button and a grey Private button: Clicking the Private button changes the destination of the reply and also inserts the word Private: in the subject line: I recommend checking the BCC Me box, otherwise you won't have a record of the message you sent privately. Notably this method does not reveal to you, making the reply, the email address of the member who posted the original member. But it does reveal to that member your address, in the From field of the private reply. So that member may reply to you off-list if they choose. I don't think there is any difference for those members replying via their email when you opt to remove the other options. There the Reply functionality is entirely in the behavior of their email interface. Re: Accuracy of Yahoo Member List Export?
#addmembers
John,
I am seeing evidence that in some cases with multiple email addressesIn the export provided in the Manage Members feature only the second column contains subscription addresses. The first column may contain email addresses, but those are the member's sign-in ID, which is not necessarily the same as their subscription email address. You should disregard any email addresses from the first column. If so, is there any chance that the "Easy Group Transfer" functionThe transfer agent will only use the proper subscription addresses. It will also skip any of those addresses which have "Bouncing" status. To emulate that with an export you'd have to also export the Bouncing list, and remove from the complete list those email addresses that appear also in the Bouncing list. What I did in Excel was use a second sheet in the file to hold the Bouncing list, then put a Match() function in a spare column of the full list to identify which are also in the Bouncing list. Then filtering or sorting on that matching column separates out the non-bouncing addresses. Or... Use the Chrome app to export your Y!Group's member's list. This produces more comprehensive information about each membership, and in particular includes a column that identifies whether the address is bouncing or not. The transfer agent uses access similar to the Chrome app. Also, FYI, yesterday a large number of @yahoo.com email addresses wereI don't use Yahoo Mail (for aught but testing), but I've read others commenting about problems with their account, even sending direct from one Yahoo Mail address to another. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNancy,Re: [GMF] how can I edit messages? If you want to edit the message content use the More menu, in the bar below the message: ![]() The button you identified is to edit the Topic's subject and properties:
In the latter group you appear to be lacking moderator privileges, or perhaps just the Edit Archives privilege. I don't know any other reason a moderator would not be able to edit the topic. Re: Change the initial "Thank you for your interest..." email
Tom,
Is there access to the initial email text (the one that starts "ThankIf you're referring to the email with the subject line "Confirm Your Groups.io Account", no you cannot. That is a system generated message, a step in the creation of the new user's account. There is a suggestion in the beta group to improve the wording of that message, if you were thinking of any changes that are group-independent you might chime in there. What you can do is create a completely customized Welcome notice for new members, on the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page. And, if your group has restricted membership, you can create a "Pending Subscription" notice as Bruce suggested. That notice will be sent after the user confirms their account, or confirms their desire to join your group (if the person used the +Subscribe email command). Re: Yahoo Groups Transfer Timeframe
Pete,
If I understand correctly based on reading elsewhere in this forum,That's correct. And it has a minor consequence: addresses that are already in the Groups.io group will be skipped during the copy operation - which means that their original Y!Group join date, their Delivery setting, and their Posting Privilege won't be copied. Also, if they sign up at Groups.io using a different email address than they had used in your Y!Group they will end up with two subscriptions, one under each address. Any content they had posted in the Y!Group will be "owned" by the address they had in the Y!Group.
