¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Nancy,

Re: [GMF] how can I edit messages?

If you want to edit the message content use the More menu, in the bar below the message:

The button you identified is to edit the Topic's subject and properties:

The settings appear to be the same in both groups and my privileges are also the same in both.? One group allows me to edit the messages and the other doesn't.? What am I missing?

In the latter group you appear to be lacking moderator privileges, or perhaps just the
Edit Archives privilege. I don't know any other reason a moderator would not be able to edit the topic.

Re: Change the initial "Thank you for your interest..." email

Tom,

Is there access to the initial email text (the one that starts "Thank
you for your interest") so it can be changed to meet who we use the
system?
If you're referring to the email with the subject line "Confirm Your Groups.io Account", no you cannot. That is a system generated message, a step in the creation of the new user's account.

There is a suggestion in the beta group to improve the wording of that message, if you were thinking of any changes that are group-independent you might chime in there.

What you can do is create a completely customized Welcome notice for new members, on the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page.

And, if your group has restricted membership, you can create a "Pending Subscription" notice as Bruce suggested. That notice will be sent after the user confirms their account, or confirms their desire to join your group (if the person used the +Subscribe email command).

Re: Yahoo Groups Transfer Timeframe

Pete,

If I understand correctly based on reading elsewhere in this forum,
when the Yahoo Group transfer finally happens, it shouldn't impact
those already signed up at Groups.io. Am I correct?
That's correct.

And it has a minor consequence: addresses that are already in the Groups.io group will be skipped during the copy operation - which means that their original Y!Group join date, their Delivery setting, and their Posting Privilege won't be copied.

Also, if they sign up at Groups.io using a different email address than they had used in your Y!Group they will end up with two subscriptions, one under each address. Any content they had posted in the Y!Group will be "owned" by the address they had in the Y!Group.

Duane,

?I thought (and hoped) that was the way it worked, but was proven wrong.? It's a total of # approvals, regardless of rejections/deletions.

Please send that result to [email protected] as a bug - it stands in contradiction to the text on the Settings page:

Note the word "consecutive".

The person who does the transfers (and a whole lot more) has been on vacation this week. Consequently, there is a backlog. I would not expect it to happen until sometime next week. Once initiated, the process should go very quickly, depending on how many files are to be transferred.

I am owner of a Yahoo Group that has nearly 600 members. We want to move the group here. I have joined Groups.io, created a group and am following the steps to have the group transferred to this site.

How long will this process take? I sent the invitation to the transfer email several days ago.

Thanks,

Paula

Hashtags work fine in private groups, but only members can see the messages, as intended.

This seems only to work if a group is public. It doesn¡¯t work when archives are private.

Re: Yahoo Groups Transfer Timeframe

Thanks all for the information!? Very helpful.

Given the (now understandable) delay and the issues our group is having communicating on the Yahoo Group, I went ahead and sent out invitations to the new Groups.io group. ?

If I understand correctly based on reading elsewhere in this forum, when the Yahoo Group transfer finally happens, it shouldn't impact those already signed up at Groups.io.? Am I correct?

It seems that our new members _may_ not be removed from moderation and having trouble finding out if they have sent more than 2 messages yet. I can¡¯t search on email addresses since the email addresses are hidden. We have 20 Jessica¡¯s. And not everyone signs their last name.
I don't know if this applies to your situation, but...

If you can find a single message, pull down the More menu at bottom right and select "All Posts by this Member." You should also be able to find posts in their Activity History.

Yes. Go to Admin->Settings and click on the "Member Notices" button at the top of the page. Create a new notice of type "Pending Subscription" and make it active. This message will now be sent instead of the canned version that groups.io uses by default.

Re: Mail Delivery Issue w/ Comcast/Outlook

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The cause was the Junk Email setting in Outlook. It was set to block all countries in the International tab, including IO which is British Indian Ocean Territory. Group.io ends in ¡°io¡± so it was being treated as such.

I have a Comcast/Outlook mail delivery. While Comcast has a Spam folder, Outlook has a "Junk E-mail" folder which works like a Spam folder. Have your user check the Outlook "Junk E-mail" folder.

Re: Hashtags

I don't let subscribers create hashtags lest things get out of control. They way I see it, flagging everything as important is the same as flagging nothing as important, only noisier.
Many of my members feel the same way and have asked me not to tell anyone about them.

I encourage you to give this particular aspect of hashtags a test drive.
At the point where someone discovers them and wants to use them, I think they would be more useful than threads by subject line ¡ª which can be helpful too. And certainly useful for the things you mention.

Can the moderator edit hashtags to consolidate them? If I change #minutes2000¡± to #minutes will the #minutes2000 be changed to #minutes on the messages where it was used. I do think hashtags are only helpful in broad subject areas ¡ª not things like #dogwalkerneededSunday
