Hash. ¡¤?tag: A word or phrase preceded by a?hash?mark (#), used within a message to identify a keyword or topic of interest and facilitate a search for it. Whenever a user adds a hashtag to their post, it's able to be indexed by the social network and becomes searchable/discoverable by other users.Jul 11, 2017?

Hello All

I am in the process of switching my yahoo groups to groups.io and I realize that I have a lot to learn.? I love the many options we have as owners.
I know that my question might sound stupid to some, but what for and when would I use Hashtags?

Change the initial "Thank you for your interest..." email

Greetings,

Is there access to the initial email text (the one that starts "Thank you for your interest")?so it can be changed to meet who we use the system?

Thanks,
Tom

Thank you, I¡¯ve made the changes. So much to learn in groups io, but all of it is better than before!

Now if I could figure out how to stop Yahoo from sending our outdated guidelines, lol.

Locked Re: Group Managers Forum subscription reminder #admin - Tue, 5/1/18 #admin #cal-reminder

I want to continue with this Group, but how do I update my membership?
I recently re-joined one of my groups, and it may have applied that to my others.
If so, does that constitute "rejoining" this one?

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Difference? #groupowner

When you make someone a moderator, there's a list of Moderator Permissions that you can assign.? If you don't select Modify Group Settings, they won't have the Settings option in the menu.

Difference? #groupowner

Nancy in Renton

Is there a difference in the permissions in owner and moderator?

My mod is missing menu items (Settings) I¡¯ve been asking her to use:

Accuracy of Yahoo Member List Export? #addmembers

Last week I seeded my new groups.io group by exporting the Y! group member list, converting it for Direct Add, and uploading the file.? I am seeing evidence that in some cases with multiple email addresses known to the Y! group, the email address that Y! gave me in the export was not the email address that the Y! group was set to deliver group messages to.?
Is this a known "feature" of the Y! group export function?
If so, is there any chance that the "Easy Group Transfer" function will be able to transfer the Y! group email addresses that were active delivery addresses in cases of multiple addresses known to the Y! group?

Also, FYI, yesterday a large number of @yahoo.com email addresses were listed in Activity as "bouncing", when quite a few messages had seemingly been delivered to them properly prior to that. I'm assuming this is further evidence of Y! mail issues.

Neither. As Chris mentioned, each member sees the group site displayed
in that member's own time zone.
?
A minor clarification to question 7:

As per Chris's original answer, the member can choose whatever timezone they wish on the Account / Preferences / Timezone setting if they don't like what it is currently set to. There is also the option for showing the time as absolute or relative to the current time, such as "10 minutes ago".

Re: Yahoo Groups Transfer Timeframe

My group has been in the queue for about two weeks and we are also still waiting. I suspect the backlog is pretty large so we can expect to see another week or two wait before the logjam gets cleared out.

There's a fairly extensive section on hashtags in the system Help at?/static/help#hashtags?In principle, you are inserting a keyword in your subject line to help people find your message. They provide an additional feature by which one can filter messages and topics for following/searching.

In practice, I've found that they don't really get used much in that capacity. But if you want to Twitter-fy your group, groups.io has many configuration options and you can go as crazy with this as you want. Some groups require hashtags on every post, and seem to be happy with that.?I don't let subscribers create hashtags lest things get out of control. They way I see it, flagging everything as important is the same as flagging nothing as important, only noisier.

Now for owners and moderators, you can use them to automatically restrict topic duration, put topics on moderated status from the outset, etc. I've found such things useful for system notices, general administrative messages, etc. Bright colors, if selected, make such notices stand out in the topics display page. I encourage you to give this particular aspect of hashtags a test drive.

Your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.

Re: many questions - very very new to this

#3 the Sticky Wiki Page worked great! ?Thank you!

Re: many questions - very very new to this

Thank you very much, Chris, Don, Ullman, too.
So very much to learn!

And what about #5, can we have the messages page open with a chat box insert at the same time?

I'm anxious to try the "Sticky Wiki Page", thanks again.

Re: many questions - very very new to this

Pamela,

#1. is there a phone app
No, but the web site is "responsive" - meaning that it adapts to display on mobile devices.

#2. can the blue border colors be changed
No.

#3. can we put our logo/photo on the messages page
Try a sticky wiki page.

It is intended for alert notices, but might serve your purposes if you don't mind the light gray background. To do that, first create a page in your group's Wiki containing the logo you wish to display. Then in the Settings page, down at the bottom of the Features section name that Page as your "Sticky Wiki Page".

#4. is there a way the most recent message can appear at the top of
the page
Which page? In the Messages section the date order can be switched by clicking on the Date link, at the top of the list of messages.

#6. what is the icon beside the "Topics" and "search box" that
looks like a funnel
That is the "Filter" button. It allows you to "filter" your message list to a specific range of times. The idea for the future is that there will be more ways to filter the messages. This works the same as the "Tools" button in the Search results page. Sometimes these features are known as "Advanced search" features.

#7. one member has a different time displayed on her messages, does
she fix her computer, or do I do something as the owner
Neither. As Chris mentioned, each member sees the group site displayed in that member's own time zone.

#8. what does make sticky mean
Again as Chris mentioned, it "Pins" the topic to the top of the Topics view. (Alas, not the other views: Messages or Expanded).

Re: help / integrate or update from yahoo to groups.io

Brenda,

I transferred myshelfreviewers to groups, butemailpostingand database
postinghas continued at yahoo¡

How can I integrate(transfer)orupdate the yahoo database and yahoo
emails to group.io?We¡¯ve yet to get everyone lined up for groups.io.
There isn't a mechanism to keep the messages or other content in a Groups.io group up to date with a Yahoo Group. There is only a one-time copy from the Y!Group to the Groups.io group. So generally speaking content added to the Y!Group after the transfer has completed is orphaned in the Y!Group.

That said, Mark recently added the ability to delete the record of your prior transfer (from the In Process drop-list on the bottom right of the Y!Groups instructions page) and start a new transfer from the Y!Group.

So in your case, you would uncheck all the transfer boxes except Messages and Databases. But I've never tried this and I don't know if it might produce unexpected results.

Re: Is it possible for someone to send a message to one person in the group and then delete that message so the recipient cannot find it? #suggestion

Kathy,

#email deletion
#searching for an email
Hashtags only function in the message Subject. Speaking of which...

Re: [GMF] Is it possible for someone to send a message to one person
in the group and then delete that message so the recipient cannot find
it? #suggestions #suggestion
If Alice sends a message to Bob, rather than to the group, that message isn't stored in the group's Messages section. So Alice cannot delete what isn't there and neither Bob nor anyone else will find it there.

If Alice sent the message to Bob using her email interface there will be no record of the message anywhere but in Alice's Sent folder and Bob's Inbox (or possibly Spam).

If Alice sent the message to Bob using Groups.io's interface (either a Private reply to Bob's posted message, or a Direct Message via the group's Directory, there will be no record anywhere but Bob's Inbox, unless Alice BCC's a copy back to herself. I'm a little surprised by this, I had thought there would at least be an entry in the group's Activity History, or the Member's, but I'm not seeing any.

Forms that default to either opt-out, or opt-in, are likewise considered

It is entirely possible to create a hashtag by simply including one in the subject line of an emailed message. However, if the person involved was not a Moderator and you have this functionality restricted to Moderators and above in your group settings (see Message Policies), I would report it to [email protected] as a bug.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

I'n sorry if i wasn't clear....

The member used several non-existent hashtags. Those tags?were then added to the list of available hashtags. I deleted them, so I'm not sure if other members could access them, too.

There is a difference between creating and using hashtags. Hashtags can be created by Moderators only or members, depending on Owner / Moderator level settings. Similarly hashtags may be used by Moderators only or members, again depending on Owner / Moderator level settings.

If your Moderators have set up hashtags for members to use then you will find the option of adding them when starting a New Topic; there is a drop - down list of those that have been made available to you. The member of your group has done no more than use permitted hashtags created by one of your Moderators.

Not a bug...
