No I wasn't as clear as I might have been... I meant the top of the page that appears when clicking on the Messages tab on the sidebar.

Re: many questions - very very new to this

If you look at the top of "this" page (i.e. the GMF) there is a post by Shal that has a thumb tack in its top left hand corner, this means that the message in question has been "stuck" to remain there forever, or at least until such time as the thumb tack is removed. ¡°

In the strictest sense, you can't. As Douglas pointed out it is a function of how the mail recipient's mail provider determines what is, and what is not, spam.

I strongly recommend that you look at this Guidance Note in the GMF wiki: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam (in the Index as Removed for Marking Messages as spam) and copy it into your own Group's wiki, and then make a point of drawing your members attention to it. With luck some of them might actually read it. (Please excuse my cynicism, but experience suggests that many will ignore it completely.)

It is not "GMF members only"; it was written for the benefit of all Groups.io users.

Re: Creating Hashtags #hashtags

There is a difference between creating and using hashtags. Hashtags can be created by Moderators only or members, depending on Owner / Moderator level settings. Similarly hashtags may be used by Moderators only or members, again depending on Owner / Moderator level settings.

If your Moderators have set up hashtags for members to use then you will find the option of adding them when starting a New Topic; there is a drop - down list of those that have been made available to you. The member of your group has done no more than use permitted hashtags created by one of your Moderators.

Not a bug...

Re: Yahoo email issues?

Lisa Ruby, Thanks for your reply regarding the Yahoo email issue. I have a feeling that might be what happened. Since the group owner deleted the member¡¯s old membership with the Yahoo address when the member re-applied with a new email address, I was not able to find much in the activity history for that member.

????Does anyone know if a member¡¯s name gets removed from the membership list that the group owner is able to view once that member gets dropped due to having their messages marked as spam?

Re: Reply to sender or group or . . .

Great explanation, thanks Shal. I missed the HTML option on settings and yes, makes perfect sense. I've adjusted it.?

Re: our emails are showing as suspected spam

Hello Barb,

These messages being sent to spam or junk mail is done by the receivers email client, not groups.io.? As well if the receiver deletes these from spam of junk mail they will be removed from the group.? If this occurs there will be an immediate link they may click to be back in the group, or have them move the messages to their inbox from spam.

It should anyway.

That's down to the individual member. In the right hand corner of the "Blue Bar" each member has a display showing their "identity"; click on that, and then on Account. On that page there is a time zone setting there for each member, depending on where they are.

#8. ?what does make sticky mean

Creating Hashtags #hashtags

A member of my group - not a moderator - just added several hashtags when he posted. Yet only moderators are allowed to create hashtags. Am I missing something? Or finding a bug?

many questions - very very new to this

We just switched our yahoo group over here to groups.io.

I'm very very new to this, so new I'm getting headaches.

We have many questions

#1. ?is there a phone app
#2. ?can the blue border colors be changed
#3. ?can we put our logo/photo on the messages page?
#4. ?is there a way the most recent message can appear at the top of the page
#5. ?can we have a chat box AND the message page to view at the same time
#6. ?what is the icon beside the "Topics" and ?"search box" ?that looks like a funnel
#7. ?one member has a different time displayed on her messages, does she fix her computer, or do I do something as the owner
#8. ?what does make sticky mean

So sorry if these seem naive. ?And thanks in advance for any help.
? MUCH APPRECIATED !

I'm pretty sure you can redirect people INTO your wiki page...or your home page or any other PUBLIC page in your group...with no problem. Be sure to set up one of the "public can view" permissions, or people arriving will be?asked to log on, and probably become confused.

At this time ftp access to the groups.io server is not available, so redirecting OUT is much more problematical.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Yahoo Groups Transfer Timeframe

Marie Alline

The man who initiates the transfer is on vacation and will not be back until tomorrow. It may take a little more time than usual due to most likely a back log of transfer requests. Keep in mind that a lot of groups are transferring now due to the problems at Yahoo groups. Be patient a few more days. I'm sure Mark will get back to you as soon as he can. Also keep checking your members list at Yahoo for the email address ([email protected]) and when you see it, make sure to make it a mod so it can have access for the transfer. Because of Yahoo email problems, I never got the notice. It was just there. You can then go back to the process and look for the next step. If the button is there to continue the process, just click it and continue. If not, you may have to wait another day or two, but keep checking it. The hardest part of the process I thought was just waiting for the transfer. Another thing to check, is to be sure none of your members are bouncing or on no mail before the transfer starts.

Reply Vs Reply-all

PACC Admin

Hi, new to this product and experimenting as replacement to Yahoo.

In Yahoo, the recipient of a message (either through email or on the web page) can choose to either reply to just the sender or to reply all and I'm trying to get Groups.io to allow the same choice.??

I found a setting where I can specify the default reply (sender, group, moderator, Group and sender) which and set it to "group"

I also found a check box called "Remove other reply options" which implies the if left unchecked in addition to the default reply to there would be other options like Sender or Moderator.? However I can't see any difference if this box is checked or not.? In no case do I seem to have an option of selecting what set of people the reply should go to (either in replying on the web or replying to an email either using the Outlook reply vs reply all or the buttons at the bottom of the message.

Can someone give me some guidance here on how to set things up so that members can choose on a message by message basis which group of people their reply should go to?

Thanks -- Dan

Go to Admin->Settings and click the Member Notices tab at the top of the page. Create a new notice of type Group Guidelines. There are checkboxes for "send on join" and "send monthly to group."

Hope this helps,

Re: 2 questions about guidelines

Nancy,

We have updated our group¡¯s guidelines. How do I replace the copy that you get when clicking on the menu??
How do I make the new guidelines email monthly?

See the other recent messages about the Guidelines type of Member Notice. Also:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Member-Notices? and
/static/help#membernotices
?
All I could find was edit and move. The new version was modified and uploaded in our files by a moderator, not me.

Unlike Y!Groups, member notices in Groups.io are not implemented as part of the Files feature. Files here cannot be "scheduled".

Milt,

Looks like you have this set to go out using the Calendar, something I've never used on Groups.io.? Can you provide a short overview for those of us who might like to send a regular monthly message like this to members?

I set up GMF's reminder before the Guidelines feature that Bruce mentioned existed. You might prefer to used that method. On the other hand, using a calendar Event gives you great flexibility in scheduling, at the cost of some boilerplate content and system hashtags. See also:
