Re: Is the main Transfer onslaught over yet?

Nancy in Renton

I just want to say,

We¡¯ve been transferred since about last November. This morning I got a notice from Yahoo that I had 2 messages waiting for approval. I went to the old, now defunct group. There was one not two.

I deleted the message and wrote to that email telling her about the new group (which it turned out she was already a member of).

So I decided to put up an image of a closed sign for the banner photo. Upload. save. No Photo!

Now I remember why I¡¯m so thankful for io groups,
Nancy

All Day events reminders and notices

Hiya -

We're a family group that spans a few time zones, and use the calendar mainly for birthday and anniversary announcements, which are all-day events. Our calendar Timezone is set to Eastern Time (UTC - 5:00).

Our all-day events are marked to send a notice when the event occurs. This seems to be sent at 3 PM Eastern time, which arrives too late for those in some time zones.

1) Is there a way to change this for notices or do I need to change all the events to send reminders instead of notices?

2)?I know there's an option for sending the reminder?nn?minutes/hours/days/weeks before the event.

a) When is of the start time of an all day event??According to my experience with notices, it's not at midnight as I found in some of the forum threads.

b) Does the timezone affect the event start time??

I realize that I can try a couple of events to work this out myself but I don't want to jam our members' Inboxes, so it would be helpful to know when this event occurs.?

Thanks in advance,
Abby.

No, this is part of your Account settings and has nothing to do with a specific group.? Once signed in, click on your name in the upper right corner and select Account.? On the page that opens, select Preferences on the left menu.? The 4th item down is Items Per Page.? I think it defaults to 20, but setting it to 100 is the most useful for me (at least when I'm at home with a decent connection) since infinite scroll doesn't work on some items, like databases.? On the road, I try to use 20 to minimize data usage.

Re: Moderator ?

Go to Admin->Members, click on the user's name, then pull down the "Role" menu and make them a Moderator.

Select appropriate permissions and notifications, then click the blue "save" button at the bottom.

Hope this helps,

As yet, I don't see an option to make a member a moderator.
Thanks for any input.

Re: How to follow a topic from the web UI?

Paul,

Compare:
Interesting. I wonder where I went wrong in attempting to append that earlier. Oh well.

That implies to me that the implementation effort for that part of it might be a lot less than I'd imagined. Then all that's needed is the UI element to provide the view choices -- show only the muted, not muted, followed or not followed threads. I've suggested (in beta) that the UI element has a home: in the filter pane (advanced search) pane of the messages and topics lists, and the Tools pane of the Search results.

Bob,

3.?????? select a particular date format in the Group¡¯s settings, then my vote goes to

Mark has said pretty clearly that he won't be changing to a different single format. Rather an option for format would be added. I believe that it would be an account option (per member) like Timezone, not a per group option.

I have had calendars that allow you to choose. When creating my profile here, I thought that I chose my date and time region, but maybe I'm wrong. I know for sure I chose my time in my profile. Why not have the same choice of date display, in?everyone's profile. That would solve the situation for everyone. Whatever their choice is, that would show in any of their groups and everyone would be happy. It's doable.

I feel your frustration guys! I am feeling it all over through many of?the groups that are still there and asking me how to move here. I think if I had no other choice but to go back to Yahoo Groups, I would simply close my groups down. Never again do I want to feel that kind of frustration!

I've invited [email protected] to our Yahoo group twice now, and it doesn't seem to be working. For that matter, none of my emails are going through to the Yahoo groups list, so I'm worried that Yahoo is entirely dead at this point. I'm thinking of just starting a new group, and hopefully reaching a majority of the old list via private emails, FB, and other social networking by each other.

If I just start a new group, and Yahoo comes back up eventually and does the transfer, what will happen? Will the transfer overwrite the new members? Will we have duplicates?

I'm SO frustrated that I can't even communicate with our mailing list at all right now.

Re: Yahoo might be dead - transfer questions

I apologize. I should have answered your other questions. If you create a group and have your members sub themselves, the transfer will not overwrite them. The transfer recognizes each member by their email address. However if they subscibe with a different email address, they may end up subbed twice, so if you contact your members to sub themselves, be sure to let them know to use the same email address they used at Yahoo groups.
?
Yahoo groups is not completely dead. I am still getting the occasional email from there. Not many, but some.

I can add ?allview=1 to the URL parameters to get the buttons, but this seems very odd.

I don't see that effect with GMF's messages. What were you looking at when you did that (topic list, topic, message list, message)?

Hi Mark,

As Duane mentioned this topic has been raised as - HERE. Pity it's taking so long to change what I would think is a simple enhancement (but I'm no programmer (;>)

It is a bit infuriating in my subject lines I have to preface with a European date to make sure the members of my Groups (amateur radio - and times - 24hr clock in Z/UTC/GMT) can recognise the date format correctly 01/06/18 - 1st of June or 6th January? Of course the 1st of June from our perspective.

And a last, a lot of progressive on-line sites are starting to adopt the standard for dating format YY/MM/DD/M and no AM/PM just 24hrs.

Cheers
