Re: Deleting multiple images in Photos folder

Thanks, Bruce! Mark looks like he is a busy man!! I'm glad the software is under one person's control. A team allows for "vacations", but as many companies have found out a team may mean multiple?"owners" and you get Yahoo's disaster. ? Ken |

Re: Unsubscribers
I'm not a "peeps", which is a dergatory term to my generation, but can tell you that in large, long term groups at yahoo, about 20% or more end up in bouncing status.
Yahoo has an ever changing requirement for Yahoo email owners to post at least every (delta) days/weeks or they arbitrarily disable the email account. They don't bother to tell group owners when they do this so, one must access all members and sort for bouncing members because they will not be imported by groups.io. Just consider them lost forever. Also I've had people try to rejoin 2 or 3 times when they were already active members. You just can't have a large group and at the same time baby sit them.? They either need to become active for themselves or fall by the wayside. -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |

As Marie Alline said, stored files of any kind count against your allocation, whether uploaded, embedded or attached. If you enable photos at all, embedded images are stripped from the message and stored on the server so they can be redisplayed in this manner. The same goes for any photo attachments...they are treated identically. Short answer:? yes. Longer answer:? We get free message storage, but that free ride does not include images. They all land in the Emailed Photos folder.?Deleting the image removes it from the server. Keeping it on the server allows it to appear in the message archive, but at the cost of taking up a portion of available storage. You can't have it both ways.? Disabling photos altogether will not be a viable option for most people. I do recommend setting of a size limit on images. 1024 should be adequate for any online viewing. That way one subscriber can't send a number of huge images to the group and take up your whole allocation. Do also check into the "Delete Old Attachments" setting that Marie Alline mentioned. Attached [non-photo] files are even more problematical. They take up space on the server but there's no convenient way to get rid of them. Thankfully they do not tend to accumulate as much as photos do. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/3542 Hope this helps, Bruce |
Re: Photos

In order to not have your letters broken up, you need to go into the admin settings under "Message Formatting" and check the box "Force HTML Emails". To not have them build up in your photos, disable photos. Yes, your email and photo buildup does count towards the amount of data a group is allowed. Free or paid. Another thing you can do to help is, under "Message Formatting" there is an out of space option to "Delete Old Attachments".?

The way I read it, Mark changed the way the Member Notices are handled but not the moderation activities. So I suggest you enter all your Moderator accounts and ensure their Pending Message notification is enabled. |

hi peeps, (though we always try to poke people to read a group at its site, so can look at Files, search archived messages, etc.) |
Re: Photos
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThis leads me to a couple of questions... I didn¡¯t realise until I read
this that graphics inserted in emails are saved in Photos.
1... Do these count towards what amount of data a free group is allowed?
Probably 95% of images sent to my group are inserted in the message, 5% are
attached, they are from members with Yahoo addresses. Either it isn¡¯t possible
to insert images in a Yahoo mail message, or the senders don¡¯t know how to do
it, and since I don¡¯t have Yahoo mail, I can¡¯t help them.
2... Even though the images are in-line, they show up in the messages with
a paper clip, as though they were attached... is this correct? This is what I
see in the message list.
3... If I delete the images in the Photos, will that take them out of the
email they came in? I am hoping that they stay so that when new members look at
archived messages, they would still be able to see the images.
Thanks

do I keep the graphics from my html emails from uploading to a folder on the

Yes it is. But I found a work around for my group. I simply disabled photos. If I want to use photos at all, I can enable them in the files section. Since I do html email with a lot of graphics attached, I did not want them to build up and take up all of our space in the group. Thanks for your suggestions.

Even worse, every time someone replies to your message without first stripping the image, you will get another copy. And another, and another... Right now the only way I know to keep embedded images from landing in the "Emailed Photos" folder is to not embed them at all, but to place them in cloud storage somewhere and add the URL to your message via an <img> tag. Hope this helps, Bruce |
Duane; thanks for that. There is one problem that is beyond even Mark and that is the sometimes capricious way in which members title albums they are uploading, resulting in closely related albums being at opposite ends of a list of >250 albums. I am punishing myself for past misdemeanours by going through the photo archive renaming albums to get things into some sort of sensible grouping. Moving photos between albums would obviously be highly beneficial anyway, as it would allow the number of albums to be reduced.
It may not be the best solution but I am going to trial a Photo Album Index (with links) in our Group wiki. Looks promising so far... Chris. |

Nancy in Renton
I¡¯m using an iPad. When I include a photo in a message there doesn¡¯t seem to be a way to retitle the photo. So when it goes into the Emailed Photos album it has a camera generated name on the image.
is there a way to move an image from that folder into a personal album? i don¡¯t have access to a PC. Nancy |
Settings to change the order of files and databases
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDuane, ? Though I can't find it at the moment, ? it?s in ?My membership¡°, which you find under the cover photo in YG. When you click that and then ¨C¡°edit membership¡±, there are various features like ¡°Identity¡±, ¡°E-Mail-settings¡±, and also ¡°Sort and view settings¡±, all of them provided with a little pencil to edit. The terms might be different in English. This is just translated from the German version. ? I'm pretty sure Mark has mentioned that he plans to add those settings, and more. ? That sounds pretty good to me, thanks. ? Victoria |

IIRC, hard bouncing members are not included in the transfer to Groups.IO.
Because of that I would presume the actions seen are post transfer. I did not think of it at the time but someone suggested to leave the old group open but put everyone on moderation. If anyone now still posts to the old group they can receive an eMail telling them to subscribe to the new IO group. |
Re: Is there a way to have a "Welcome" message automatically sent to new people when they join?
Since at least one of the options in the Spam Control area must be selected, it would probably work best for you to select only Restricted Membership.? After they are approved, no further moderation would be needed.
Then go to Admin > Settings and select the Member Notices tab at the top.? If you don't have an existing Welcome message, choose to create a New Notice, make it a Notice type of Welcome, and add the information you want before using the Add Notice button at the bottom. There are plans to add several features to the photos section, shown on the Photos card at . I don't think Mark is keeping that site updated much any more though.? I believe he mentioned that he's looking for a way to keep us updated that won't use a lot of his time.

Re: Vetting New Subscribers
Hi Michael, I send them an email, requesting pertinent information from my own account. We have that information in the short group description. I was never satisfied with the little bit Yahoo allowed. You can see it here: /g/MonGenes Paul, Ohio, USA

Is there a way to get more information from prospective subscribers?Yes; it's simple. Set up a "Pending Subscription" message ("Settings" then "Member Notices") and make sure that it is set to "Active". When an application turns up in "Pending" this message will automatically be sent to the Applicant. How you word it is entirely up to you. You then decide to admit (or not, as the case may be) the applicant based on their response. Chris |
