Re: Using BCC to Moderators

Bruce,

I thought that the "BCC Moderators" checkbox (when sending a message from the Member Notices page) sent a copy of your note to all Moderators regardless of these settings. That's what it says, right? However, I just made my test account a Moderator and tried it...and it didn't work. I set up the same test account to receive all +owner emails and that didn't work, either. I even made that account an Owner, and it?still?didn't work.

This sounds like a serious bug that should be reported to [email protected] --? I depend on BCC: All Moderators heavily and have been assuming that it reaches all of them!

It is notoriously easy to fool yourself when testing email functions, but this one sounds pretty clear cut.

My backup address in GMF was set to "None" for receiving +owner emails, so I hadn't really thought about the fact that it hasn't been getting those BCCs. But come to think of it, I don't think that selection ought to control BCCs created through the web UI, or other system messages to +owner. Or maybe "system only" needs to be a fourth choice there.

According to the help page, no rejection notice is sent unless you create one and make it active.?

/static/help#membernotices

If you do have one, you can temporarily inactivate it (don't delete it), reject the member, and then activate it again. See Admin->Settings->Member Notices.

Yvette -- As an owner, go to Admin->Members. Click on the blue pull-down menu immediately above Display Name and select "Moderators."?Select one of your Moderators and click on his/her name.?

The Notifications section determines which messages the Moderator will receive in response to?system events. Depending on what responsibilities you have set up for each person, make sure he/she receives the notifications necessary to perform those functions.

The Owner Email section only applies to emails sent to?[email protected]. Be sure to set this correctly, too. For example, if you have a Moderator who is responsible for handling requests for membership, it makes no sense to have their owner messages restricted to subscribers.

With all that out of the way, back to your original question...

I even made that account an Owner, and it?still?didn't work.

In each case, my sending account got a copy. So as best I can tell, the "BCC: Me" and the "BCC: All Moderators" buttons function exactly the same. But I could still be missing something...and perhaps someone else with more experience can help shed more light on this particular problem.?

I hope this helps, but it probably doesn't.

Re: Help please......

Hi Becky,

When you click on "Members" on the left, it will open to the Pending members list, that is why you see only one member. In the row of buttons above the list it will show "Pending Approval." If you click on this button, a dropdown will open and you can select "Members" to see a complete list.

If the "Pending" on the left has a number, it is showing that you have a message waiting for approval, it always has a check-mark. Click on Pending and it will open to the Pending Message list.

Maybe the database is still working on your transfer. I have heard that it can take several days to complete. It almost sounds to me like your transfer may not be?quite finished. If you transferred just yesterday, I would just give it until tomorrow or the next day to finish. Just my thoughts.

Good luck!

Tom,?
I knew what a hashtag was, I was wondering about a ?Subject Tag, a setting.

Re: What is a Subject Tag?

The reason I asked is one of our mods accidentally added a hashtag (#events) to that space. Suddenly everyone¡¯s posts were including a hashtag that had nothing to do with that valid hashtag.?

Originally on setting up the group, I didn¡¯t know what went there so I had brackets with our group name, I guess I could have left it blank.?

Thanks, N.

rejecting a membership application

If I reject a membership application to my group, will that person get a rejection email? I vet people applying to my private IO group to keep out spammers. I always send a message to the applicants, if I don't recognize their email address, asking for their interest in my group. One person applied with two different emails. After finding out who she is from another member, I approved one of the memberships. But now I'd like to get rid of the second email address in my pending members list but I don't want to confuse the member with getting an email saying she was rejected.

Another Snag

Pam

Hello Everyone!

Soooo glad this group is here, and that there are so many knowledgeable people! It seems I've hit another snag with a couple of my groups. Several transfers have gone smooth as silk, but now...Well, we all know how Yahoo does sometimes...

I sent the invite, it's been accepted, and I've made the transfer address a moderator in my groups. When I go to the transfer page to click to give it the go ahead I get this message:

Before we can being the transfer, you must make the [email protected] user a moderator of your group. If you already have done so, please click the 'Give Go Ahead To Transfer' button again, as Yahoo can be flaky.

I click again, and get the same message. When I check these two groups in .io I'm trying to transfer, it says "No Integrations". I don't want to click this a hundred times and muck up the works, lol. But should I keep trying until I don't get that message anymore? I'm assuming that since it says "No Integrations" that it's not going through.

Thoughts? I tried this last night and again this morning. I know, I know, patience is a virtue, lol. I just want to be sure I'm not adding the same request a hundred times when it went through and I didn't know it.

Thanks!

Pam :)

Re: A whole week?

You will receive a summary email describing what the transfer agent was able to accomplish. Generally speaking members and the message archive transfer well but you could have a few files or photos that don't make it.?

This message comes from Mark, but I don't recall what the "From" line says. Try searching on YOURGROUPNAME[email protected]?in the To: line.

Again, depending on transfer backlog, this could take a day or two. I think Mark runs some scripts or something but the process does not appear to be fully automated.

It's just something you can have prepended to the subject line to help your subscribers identify messages that have been posted to the group.?Thanks for asking this question, though. It never occurred to me until now that I could edit this in the Settings.

Re: Help please......

Actually, if you have Pending members, that button will say Pending Approval. In any event click on the blue button immediately above "DIsplay Name."

Bruce

Re: What is a Subject Tag?

It's a hashtag in the Topic (Subject) field for a discussion. Hashtag = # (hash character) followed by a word or string of words. For example, #bug #important #wishlist are all hashtags.

Why? Groups.io can list all topics having the same hashtag.

If there's a Pending member, by default it will display only the one who is pending, on the premise that you might want to take action.?

The Members button at the top of the screen is a pull-down menu. Click on that and select Members.
