I know this has been discussed before and I did a search and read the related messages. ?This is what is confusing me...When I reply to messages, I almost always use the reply function of my email client. ?It appears ONLY?my?messages are posting as a separate Topic which is requiring me to Merge them. ?I just ran a test and replied via my email client--it posted as a separate topic and then replied again directly from the group and that one ended up within the original Topic. ?I would really like to not have to log in to reply and also would like to not have to merge messages. ?I use Outlook on a Windows 10 computer. ?Thanks for any sage advice. ?Messages on my group are not moderated.

Re: WIKI pages

J,

I've experienced this in a very bad way and have reported it to Mark as
a bug. In some cases, even if you try to reformat a section (e.g.,
change font size), it reverts back to the font it was in the pdf. The
only workaround I've found to that is to re-type the text in by hand.
That's unfortunate.

The Remove Font Style button (eraser, Ctrl+\) should be the work-around for that problem. If even it won't clear out the pasted formatting that's a problem.

I don't know if you tried it, but it may also be possible to clear out the pasted formatting by using Code View (the "</>" button), but that oughtn't be necessary - it requires some knowledge of HTML coding probably more than a little patience.

Re: WIKI pages

Janice,

Is it possible to add a PDF with screen shots as a GMF WIKI page?
Not directly. You can copy the content of a PDF and paste it in while editing a wiki page, but I think you'll lose the formatting of the PDF, and I don't know what might become of any images in the PDF if you try that. So there would likely be some formatting work to do after pasting in the content.

I don't understand much about WIKI. In my group it is used for LINKS
only to outside websites.
As LeeAnne said, the wiki pages are created and edited just like you would create or edit a message using the Groups.io site - almost exactly the same edit box and formatting tools. The pages are then saved in the Wiki section rather than being sent as messages.

One defect at present is that the formatting bar for Wiki pages currently lack the button to insert an image. It is possible to get images to display in the wiki pages by resorting to trickery. A tutorial for that might be in order, but I was rather hoping Mark would add the button instead.
/g/beta/message/8527

Maybe beta@ needs a new message, clearly stating that suggestion as a request.

Re: WIKI pages

Hi Janice,

Not that I am much of a Wiki expert but it works just like these messages but it saves a page instead of sending a message. The beauty of the wiki is that you can set it so members or mods only can edit it. ?This works for our group as we have frequent updates for members to find information.

The Table of Contents (ToC) doesn't work very well but it works enough to organise long home pages. ?At this time only the h1 style ?(use the ?button)?will make a working link in the page's ToC, but it works enough to get information across.

You can see in ShalsTests.?

Are owner messages to members logged? Can't find it

I sent out an owner message to about 10 group members tonight using the checkbox and can't find any log of this activity. If it's not logged, I'll suggest it on beta, but thought I'd check here first.?

Re: Spam/phishing mails

Shal,

The scam/spam/phishing mails come from Support World-Finance-Group. A whole
bunch of them.

It is probably a coincidence. The odd thing is that it started right after I
set up the io group and it happened on a an email address that I haven't
used for years, but I use it now for the io group. So that got me worried.

Cheers,

Ary

Ary,

Since we are on groups.io we both receive spam and phishing mails on
these addresses. I am really worried. Is io compromised?
Not very likely.

Did the messages arrive via your group's +owner address?

Each owner/mod can choose to receive such messages from everyone, from
members only, or not at all. I generally recommend that at least one active
mod in each group elect to receive +owner messages from "everyone" - in case
a person who's having trouble joining the group wishes to make contact.

Does anyone else get these mails?
"These mails" is a pretty broad statement.

I've received spam and phishing emails in pretty much every email address
I've ever had, and that goes a long way back before the inception of
Groups.io.

Hi all,

A couple of days ago I started a group on io. I am just testing it with a friend. It is a closed group. I am using 2 email addresses that I don't use elsewhere as does my friend. Since we are on groups.io we both receive spam and phishing mails on these addresses. I am really worried. Is io compromised? Does anyone else get these mails?

There would seem to be three possibilities:
??? 1. Your computer has spyware on it
??? 2. Your friends computer has spyware on it
or
??? 3. groups.io is badly compromised

Mark has asked that bugs be reported to [email protected]. I'm sure those that use the ToC would appreciate knowing if/when it gets squished.

LeeAnne,

Nope, that was wrong. Period (".") is explicitly an unreserved character in URL syntax. But this does leave open the possibility that other punctuation marks might cause trouble.

The evidence is simpler (but more mysterious) than that. For some reason the presence of a period within the header text suppresses the generation (in the resulting web page) of the anchor tag which tells the browser where to scroll to.

How or why this happens is a mystery (to me). I don't see any way for a user to get around it. It doesn't seem like something that is "by design", so I'd still classify it as a bug.

Re: Help with Wiki Toc?

LeeAnne

I've been working on the Wiki for the ECIR. In the Toc, there are a few
links but one just refuses to work.

I uploaded it to your test group (hope this was okay) so you can see all
the details. I wasn't sure this group would be appropriate for it.
Yes, shalstest is the perfect place for this kind of testing. And your thought is correct, GMF is not.

I poked at it a bit and the problem seems to be the "." (decimal) in "Groups.io" - somehow that causes the TOC linkage to fail for that header.

Seems like a squishy bug in the TOC mechanism, and I don't think there's anything you can do about it by editing the code view. Definitely one to report to [email protected], in the mean time I guess you'll have to figure out how to name that section without a "." in it. Or live with the fact that particular link in the TOC doesn't work.

I think the bug has to do with URL syntax for fragment part. There's a possibility that the bug is browser-dependent, I've only tested it with Firefox.
