Re: How long does it take for the transfer-bot to accept a Yahoo Groups invite? #transfer

I sent the invite to the transfer-bot from the Yahoo Group
I am transferring a couple of hours ago. Is the acceptance
fully automated? Should the transfer-bot have already
become a member of my group? I just don't know if this is
a normal healthy delay, or if in fact the Yahoo Groups invite
did not go out. As of right now, I have no transfer-bot in my
Yahoo Group so I can't begin to transfer us over.
Just a couple other thoughts -

When you sent the invitation to [email protected], did you also send an second invitation in the same message to an email address you have access to that is unknown to Yahoo groups? If you get the second invitation yourself, that will tell you if the invitation is actually going out or not. If you don't hear back from the transfer agent in a couple days or if you can't seem to get an invitation out, you might contact [email protected] directly and explain that you may be having trouble getting an invitation out. A reply to such a message can also require a little time for support to have time to respond.

If you've already filled out the transfer request form, such a message might cause 'transfer' to send you a request for membership to the groupname-subscribe@... address for your yahoo group. Watch your group and spam filters for that possibility and make sure your group is set to allow such requests. We had to use that trick to get 'transfer' into a couple Y! groups I was working with that couldn't seem to get invitations out.

As Shal noted, the backlog is pretty deep and it's taking a long time for groups to work through the queue. Given the number of groups trying to transfer, and knowing that a lot of little things can hang part of a transfer, this can be a test of patience, but in my opinion, the final result is well worth the wait.

Re: Subject in subject line and hashtag... #hashtags

Marina,

If it is of any confort to you, today one of my members posted a message with the correct hashtag but without the # symbol. He did it via mail, I suppose, because if you send a message from the group you can choose from a dropdown menu a set of hashtags with the # symbol.

However, the system let the message go through. So, apparently, there is no need to put # before the hashtag. I wanted to kill myself, after all the instructions sent to members on how to use hashtags.
Without the # it isn't a hashtag - just a word (or unspaced phrase) in the subject text. So I'm not sure why you're surprised that the message went through.

As far as my experience is concerned, I am afraid that the only way to obtain discipline is to very patiently hammer it into your members' brains by way of public instructions and guidelines.
If your list is not too busy, putting members on moderation may help. In this way you can intercept their wrong messages and send them back with the appropriate instructions. After a couple of messages, even the most stubborn ones understand how it works.

subgroup creation fails?

When I click on "Create Subgroup", nothing happens (well, the form refreshes but that's it). No subgroup is created. If I go to?/,?it shows: "You do not have permission to access that page." See image. If I refresh that top-level groups.io page, the diagnostic disappears but comes back any time I re-attempt subgroup creation. Any clue as to what's going on?

Anyone have samples of letters sent to your group before and after transferring to io

Does anyone have samples of e-mails they sent to their groups notifying them of their upcoming move along with instructions on how to start using the new site?? Trying to create e-mails to ease the transition and can use all of the help I can get.

Re: How long does it take for the transfer-bot to accept a Yahoo Groups invite? #transfer

webmaster,

I sent the invite to the transfer-bot from the Yahoo Group I am
transferring a couple of hours ago. Is the acceptance fully automated?
No. The invitation acceptance is not automated because accepting them requires solving a CAPTCHA.

Also, due to the backlog of groups attempting to transfer, and to some limits at Yahoo, the invitations are not accepted immediately. Rather that is deferred until your group is closer to the front of the queue.

I just don't know if this is a normal healthy delay, or if in fact the
Yahoo Groups invite did not go out.
You should be able to see your request's current status by selecting the Yahoo Group name in the "In Process" droplist down at the bottom right of the Transfer instructions page:
/yahootransfer

As of right now, I have no transfer-bot in
my Yahoo Group so I can't begin to transfer us over.
When the Invitation is accepted you should receive a message at the email address you use to log into Groups.io

Subject: "Steps to transfer..."
From: Easy Group Transfer <[email protected]>.

That's in addition to any "Joined" message you may receive from Yahoo.

Note that due to the backlog there will also likely be some time between when you've promoted the transfer agent, and clicked the "Go" button on the In Process page, and when the transfer will actually be underway. In a very large group (lots of messages & other content) it could also take quite a while for all the content to be collected.

How long does it take for the transfer-bot to accept a Yahoo Groups invite? #transfer

I am sorry if this has been asked before, but a quick search of this group did not reveal the answer.

It's configurable...Admin->Settings->Message Policies...look for whether the "remove other reply options" box is checked.

It my group I've disabled reply-to-sender because I want our members to interact. Our member list is visible and if they want to engage in side conversations they can always just email each other.

Re: Members not receiving invitations #issue

Carole,

I'm having that same problem John, did you ever get an answer to your question?

As a first check, click on the Sent Invitations button on the Invite page.

If the Status is "Failed" the rest of the line will tell you why the invitee's service rejected the invitation.

If the Status is "Sent" then the question is what did the invitee's email service do with the invitation. If not in the invitee's inbox, the most likely answer is delivered to the invitee's Spam folder (or Trash folder, depending on the invitee's settings). Possible but unlikely is that the service simply dropped the invitation into a black hole.

Re: New member trying to transfer large group from YG to GroupIO

Fred,

Any suggestions on how to get my group back on line in YG?

My old standby is the "browser ritual":

That used to often work for the purple "error loading content" problem. But it hasn't been effective for some of the more recent outages and issues, so your mileage may vary.

This was just discussed in another thread. PM is not yet a feature in groups.io.

You can go to your members list and click on either "Display name" at the top to sort the list by name, or on "email" to sort the list by email address, and find their email address that way. Or you can go to one of their posts and create a private reply by clicking on "reply" and then on "private" at the bottom right. Or you can try to find an email from them in your inbox.

Thanks, Linda. That worked. I've been managing about 12 Yahoo groups for my and we'd like to move to groups.io. Just learning the ropes now.

Settings --> Member Notices --> Create new notice --> choose "Group Guidelines"

It appears automatically after created. You can choose whether or not it's also sent monthly to the group, sent to new members on joining, and whether it's visible to non-members on your home page.

Re: How do you add a tab on the left sidebar

Linda,

Shal, how did you add the tab on the left that says guidelines?

You create a Group Guidelines type of Member Notice.

Settings > Member Notices > New Notice
Select Group Guidelines as the Notice Type
