Re: Member Mad that she got Unsubbed
But? actually, Yahoo did this to her.? Yahoo and two of their email customers ATT and Verizon are the worst? for this type of action.
They also have filters that "recognize" nasty words.? Our genetic disease is Fuchs'.? Not hard to imaging how yahoo sometimes freaks out with that. She will just have to start checking her spam folder. She would have received a special message from groups,.io that this was happening and that message has a magic autoenroll link that's active for 3 days after being unsubscribed. That last is something no other service does. Hopefully she will remember to check her spam folder after you reenroll her. -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |
Re: Password Difficulties
Paul,
There's a temptation to give them a similarly vague answer, like "Then do it correctly next time." ?
I'm suspecting pilot error. Maybe the problem was that they were using the Sign Up form and didn't understand that it will send them an email message to confirm their address - if the confirmation email goes into their Spam folder, or they just don't see it, and as a result they don't confirm their address that might seem like setting the password "didn't take". Another possibility is that they typod their own adress and didn't notice. So the confirmation was lost in the mail, and the password setting "didn't take". Yet another possibility is that their email service greylisted (deferred) the confirmation - thus causing it to take much longer than normal to arrive. Password Difficulties
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIn my new IO group of 800 I have several reporting difficulties with setting their initial password. I don¡¯t have details but their description was that ¡°it didn¡¯t take¡± and they had to repeat it several times. Is there a bug or does it take hours/a-day sometimes to get it through? My dim memory is boof, it happened. ? Paul |
Re: Member Mad that she got Unsubbed
Depending on her email domain, they certainly could automatically be vectoring group posts to the spam/junk file.? If she doesn't actively check that folder for valid messages that got put in there and mark it "not junk/not spam" - then the filter will continue to mark it thus, and as said below, once the automated system takes over, the user likely will never see it.? She can get mad all she wants, but in the end, it is she, not the system, that has the responsibility for making sure the posts from groups.io are marked as "safe" (or "whitelisted" or whatever terminology her anti-spam/anti-malware filter uses).

Photo Ownership
Recently I transferred a list with 8,000 photos.? Fortunately I had chosen an intermediate image size and all the photos transferred due to being re-sized and storage is below the 1GB limit.
However a large number are orphaned, photo ownership was transferred to the groups.io list owner because the original poster of the photos was no longer in the members directory.? Evidently over the 19 years of the list many members had changed their e-mail accounts and YG had not transferred photo ownership. At this time I can't see how to transfer the ownership of posted photos to the correct member.? I can just delete these albums of several hundred photos and have the photo owner repost all of them. Seems like the moderator should be able to just change ownership and avoid reposting a lot of images. -- ken clark "It has always seemed strange to me," said Doc. I've never relied on the Yahoo text info, way to little. I've been sending a separate email to the prospective member requesting information prior to approval. I've had some bounce because the email was not in service, several others who don't reply.& a couple who are mad because I asked for more info.

Probably saved myself several headaches by doing this, I will continue this practice here.

Shouldn¡¯t owner / moderator approving a member be an option for the group? Something in settings? Auto approve or moderator approve.

Integration with Google Calendar
#calendar
Hi,
I'm a newbie owner and looking at the options of integration. My group has a website that has an embedded google calendar that the public can subscribe to. We are investigating the option to move to Groups.io and part of that we have some questions regarding the groups,io calendar. Can the groups.io calendar be automatically synced with the google calendar or the reverse where the google calendar updates the groups.io calendar? What are the options to embed the groups.io calendar into a website for the public to view events and allow members of the public to subscribe to the calendar and only the calendar so they can integrate it with their mobile device calendars but not have accounts in the group or have any access to anything else as our group is private. Thanks |
Approval of new members

#membership
Hi
I moderate a couple of groups and have a steady trickle of membership requests. I would like to validate these requests by prompting the requester to provide information relating to the validity of their membership request. Is there a way to do this? In Yahoo, I seem to recall there was a field where prospective members could provide supporting information to their joining request. Thanks in advance. John W. |
Email Delivery History WAS: Tracking Pending Member and Welcome Messages
Anyone else having issues with their Email Delivery History for each member?
toggle quoted message

Today (Mar 9), when I checked the History for a few members, the latest delivery was Mar 7, even though we have messages for Mar 8 and today. Also, a pending member's History still shows nothing (no Pending or Welcome messages), and I've already approved her yesterday. Perhaps the History is delayed in being updated, as Shal has mentioned in his message below. No big deal - just wondering if it's unique to my group. Thanks. Lily On Thu, Mar 8, 2018 at 01:12 am, Shal Farley wrote: The other issue is one of delay: success is not recorded promptly. The example Duane & I cited was blank initially, but showed up in something less than 24 hours. I'm not sure how much less because I wasn't looking frequently. And Lily's observation implies the delay could be much longer. |
