Approval of new members
#addmembers
#membership
Hi
I moderate a couple of groups and have a steady trickle of membership requests. I would like to validate these requests by prompting the requester to provide information relating to the validity of their membership request. Is there a way to do this? In Yahoo, I seem to recall there was a field where prospective members could provide supporting information to their joining request. Thanks in advance. John W. |
Email Delivery History WAS: Tracking Pending Member and Welcome Messages
Anyone else having issues with their Email Delivery History for each member?

Today (Mar 9), when I checked the History for a few members, the latest delivery was Mar 7, even though we have messages for Mar 8 and today. Also, a pending member's History still shows nothing (no Pending or Welcome messages), and I've already approved her yesterday. Perhaps the History is delayed in being updated, as Shal has mentioned in his message below. No big deal - just wondering if it's unique to my group. Thanks. The example Duane & I cited was blank initially, but showed up in something less than 24 hours. I'm not sure how much less because I wasn't looking frequently. And Lily's observation implies the delay could be much longer. |

Re: X-No-Archive header
Indeed yes; the Yahoo group did support X-No-Archive and one of our group members is disappointed that now we have migrated Groups.io doesn't support it.

Re: Group Name Spelling Error Correction
Go to Admin > Settings, scroll down to the Message Formatting section, and correct the spelling in the Subject Tag box.

Re: Files section
#files
You can put photos in the Files section, but it's a special feature that you have to enable.? Go to Admin > Settings and scroll down to the Features section.? Under the Files area, select the check box for "Allow Photos In Files" and save your changes.

Files section
#files
I have just found out that you cannot upload image files in the group Files section.
In my YG group we used to upload posters, invites to events, etc. in the Files section. This allowed us to store miscellaneous documents, in different formats (including jpg), about various events under related folders. Since attachments were not allowed in the group, it was also an easy way to give members access to materials of temporary interest through a link to a specific folder the Files section (link was sent through the Notify Members tab). Now I have to upload image files in Photos and other documents in Files, even if they are about the same event. Besides, there is no Notify Members tab when you upload a new file in Photos. It would be good to have the same opportunities offered by YG Files and be allowed to upload all documents in one place, regardless of their format. Marina |
Re: Mass update of moderation status
#moderation
David,
Ideally, I'd like to see the ability to (a) filter users by moderationI'm all in favor of being able to filter and sort the Members list by all fields, not just those that have column headings. But yes, Posting Privilege is one that comes up frequently. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: Member Mad that she got Unsubbed
Check the Activity log for the group.? It will say if she was removed for marking a message as spam.? Unfortunately, it may not have been done actively.? There are some email services that use a 'faulty' spam filter that puts things in the spam folder that it shouldn't.? Then, if the member doesn't notice and mark it as not spam, when the service automatically deletes it after awhile, it gets reported to Groups.io who removes the member.? This is required so that the site doesn't get a bad reputation causing the email service to block all emails from here.? It didn't happen on YG because they ignored the reports.
I don't believe there's anything in the Wiki here about it, but there are a lot of posts about it. Duane -- Help: /static/help GMF's Wiki: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Search button at the top of Messages list |
Member Mad that she got Unsubbed
~mary~
A member, who is a co-owner of a Yahoogroup that was transferred to IO, is mad that she got a notice that she wasn't a member anymore.? She said she did not mark it as spam.? She went so far as to say "Yahoo never did this to me."? !!??
Is there another reason this can happen?? Can you point me to the Wiki where this is explained and I'll share with her?? Thanks...? mary

Possible 'situation'
A situation has come up in an offlist conversation.? Apparently, some folks/groups are concerned about group seniority when transferring from YG.? If that's a concern for you, you should use a secondary or disposable email address to create the new group so that your original join date will get transferred, along with your other information, when the group is transferred.

Re: New member trying to transfer large group from YG to GroupIO
This group of users is probably as close as you'll find.? There have been quite a few threads about moving recently, so you may find that your situation has already been covered.? If there's a bug or serious problem, you can contact [email protected], but for operational questions, Mark refers people to this group or Group_Help.
