Re: What's going on here?

Thanks. Tried each of those, including re-trying Arial. Not in that or Courier
New. It is in Tahoma. I don't have Segoe UI. This is in XP.

Delivery Failure and Undeliverable

I sent a private message to each member of the Yahoo group I am having transferred. I got 14 'Delivery Failure' and 'Undeliverable:' messages back. If my actual membership is only reduced by 14 that is not bad at all. What I need to know is this. If I keep these 14 as part of the membership that Support will be transferring to Groups.io, will it cause a problem with the transfer? I do not understand most of what is said in these messages and so I don't want to start deleting members and then discover it was a temporary inability to deliver a message.

Re: trouble with transfer from yahoogroups

The Yahoo invitations never did go through, but I asked
Mark about the old Yahoo request membership link. Mark
was able to get 'transfer' onto those groups using that
and the group transfers were set in motion that way.
Curious. How did Mark gain Moderator privileges in the
Y!G without an owner's intervention?
The problem was not getting 'transfer' moderator privileges. The problem was getting 'transfer' onto the Yahoo group in the first place. The invitation process simply wasn't working. Working from the other direction, the request to join got through and the owner was able to approve and promote 'transfer'.

How do I download an image into an album on my groups.io ?

Dear all,

I need help and it must be step-by-step instructions. Metaphors and directions which do not say how to do something explicitly do me no good.

I am the listmoderator of [email protected]

On my PC desktop I have a jpg image of a picture that a list member sent me to share with the list.? What I want to do is download it into an album on TrollopeandHisContempories@groups.io
?
Here is the page:
?
?
The way I understand to download images is on the screen there should be?a download button. First I put my cursor on an album I chose to put the picture in and click on its title underneath the image that I see. Then all the images in the album show up.?Then I click on that download button,? and a window appears which shows me my desktop.? I click on the jpg on my desktop and its number appears in the bottom rectangle of the window. To the side I see an "open command" I click on "open" and the image appears in the album. What I cannot see is the download command. I have tried looking for drop down menus? and can't find any.

Can someone help me find where the download button for putting images into photo albums in the groups.io is?

If there is another way I am supposed to download images that uses the screen, please give me explicit instructions. It is no use telling me to "use microsoft painter:" I don't understant what that is or how to use. Don't tell me to copy and paste the image because that leaves out all steps. I don't know how to copy the image; when I tried I saw nothing but the single image.

Thank you

Once per week would drive me nuts. I¡¯d make a mailbox rule to delete that before I saw it. It would take me about two weeks to decide to never see that again.

How long are your guidelines? I¡¯m a fan of very, very short guidelines. Here are the guidelines for the Philmont list that I run:

This list is about Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. Participants and prospective participants are welcome to ask questions and share?knowledge.

The rules for behavior on this list are the ideals of Scouting: the Scout Motto, Slogan, Oath, Law, and the Outdoor Code. We will disagree, but please be?courteous and helpful when disagreeing.

Re: Does calendar go to Special Notices?

Debbie,

So, do the Special Notices people get the calendar notices?

Not ordinarily.

You can force the issue by checking the "Special" option on the #cal-notice hashtag, but that would apply to all calendar notices which is probably not a good idea.

To be more targeted you could put the #guidelines hashtag in the event name for the event used to send them, and then check the "Special" option on it.

Myself, I would avoid sending any recurring item as a Special notice. To me, it is a little like crying wolf..

Food for thought: Is once a week even going to change the behavior of those you say don't bother saving what you request and save? And is a constant reminder to those people that DO follow the guidelines NOT going to annoy them, regardless of the frequency?

You apparently have strict guidelines for the behavior in your group. That's fine. Lay out what the guidelines are when a member joins. They will either a.) understand and abide by them, or b.) "seem to think that it does not apply to them" and ignore them. In the opinion of the management team in our group, that's what moderators are for. A reminder to the offending party to either 'shape up or ship out' is sent, pointing out that the guidelines are in place for a reason. Yes, there were some members of our group (when it was on Y!G) that made issue with some of the guidelines that were established and they insisted their way was better, or the rules were stupid (without necessarily knowing the background of the rule), but our answer was always 'But it's Gary's group, so he gets to set the rules.' Gary has, sadly, passed on, and a group of us have taken up the continuance of his group and while we may tweak things a little (like moving it to GRIO) we still maintain that idea that 99% of the members want to behave and will and the other 1% won't no matter how much we want them to; don't punish the 99% for the sins of the 1%. And membership is strictly voluntary: don't like our guidelines and rules, start your own group.

Your group may be different, but that's our experience.

o In the list of pages on the left click "Directory"
You can also just click on the member's display name under any post or post preview (this saves having to click on the message itself, and then on "more")

Does calendar go to Special Notices?

debbie

Until now, I had the guidelines going to the group on the first of every month. I set a calendar notice of the guidelines to go to the group once a week. I then unchecked, in the member notices, the box for sending the guidelines on the 1st. At the same time the box for sending to Special Notices disappeared. So, do the Special Notices people get the calendar notices?

The issue of many people not reading our guidelines (which includes all our subscription change possibilities) is very bad. They all seem to think that it does not apply to them and that they do not need to save a copy. (Subject line says Read and Save!) I want it to be in their faces, but not more than once a week to annoy the people too much that do actually use the guidelines.

Anyone with any experience with this issue with ideas?

Debbie

Re: Groups.io site updates #changelog

Marina,

I haven't been able to find the "All Posts by This Member".
Where is it?
o In the list of pages on the left click "Directory"
o Find the member of interest (if listed), click on his/her entry
o Click on the "All Posts By This Member" link
(in the block of info beside his/her image)

Or,

In the More menu under one of the person's messages.

Re: Who moderated?

Don,

My group has 4 moderators. Is there an easy way by looking at a
message to determine who approved / moderated the message?
As Duane and J have said, not from the message itself.

Some time ago I mentioned in beta that I thought it would be a good feature, but that was buried in another topic.

I don't know if you had in mind something similar, or something exposed (only to moderators?) through the web presentation of the Messages.

Re: Numbering Messages on Transfer

Sharon,

Transferred messages stay in order by date but appear to be
renumbered.
...
This isn¡¯t a problem for us but I am preparing to transfer a number of
lists for one organization and need to be able to explain the logic of
this.
The messages are assigned the next available number as they are copied over. There is generally no correspondence between the message numbers in the Yahoo Group and in the Groups.io group.

So, messages that were posted in the Groups.io group before or during the transfer, and messages that were deleted from the Yahoo Group both serve to prevent the copied messages from retaining their Yahoo Group numbering.
