Can sponsorships be recur annually?
Hi --
?
I have a person in our group who told me she got a notice that there will be an annual charge for her sponsorship of our group made to her card in 3 days (she made a sponsorship payment about a year ago).
?
She didn't intend to make a recurring sponsorship and doesn't remember doing that.
?
How can I cancel that on her behalf? I can't figure out how to do it.
?
Thank you,
?

Auto Notices (sender address?)
I have manually sent welcome notices (from a list of pre-written notices) when we get a new member, and choose +Owner on the message FROM pull-down.?
?
I am automating it but do not see an option how to specify that it be sent from the +Owner (rather than ¡°me¡±.) ?i.e., there is no pull-down to choose which sender when composing/updating the saved Notice.?
?
Will it ALWAYS be sent from the +Owner or am I missing something obvious to make that happen?
?
Thx!

See here
? Be sure to limit one issue, bug, suggestion, whatever, per Messsge Topic. ?Topics can sometimes go sideways and Mark may lose focus if there¡¯s 5 suggestions in one message.?
?
I find that on a #suggestion, sometimes giving Mark a concrete change (such as rewarding something that is confusing or incorrect) gets more action than simply bringing it to his attention. ?I did that on some system email/message that was (IMO) overly wordy and disorganized, and it was easy for him to just cut/paste in my replacement text, and changed it quickly (a day or two.)

From that point, I did not know how the process continued. Once you've posted the suggestion, it's at least on Mark's radar.? I've made some that took a few years to be adopted, others that never have been, others in a few days.? Mark usually looks at the overall picture to see if it will be beneficial to a large number of people.? Sometimes it's a small number, but on an Enterprise group that's paying a large sum.

Re: Purpose Of Beta Group
I have a member of my group that has asked me to forward their improvements to the Photo Albums, they think would make it function better. I happen to agree with them on a couple of their ideas, so I told them I would look into forwarding their ideas to the appropriate place on Groups.io. I already knew GMF helped in answering questions about the operation of groups to users, but with ideas of changes and/or improvements, it was generally recommended to submit those to the Beta Group. From that point, I did not know how the process continued. That was the intent of my post.

Hi Don,
Why don¡®t you have a look at the group¡®s main page yourself? You can open it without registering - just open the web site?
groups.io/g/beta ?
(I¡®ve left out the https stuff so you have to complete the link yourself).?

I have been trying to find information about security of Io groups = particularly the encryption if there is any? That's the only "encryption" I'm aware of. If you're looking for something specific, please explain.

Hi
As a starting point, there is a Privacy Policy for and in that there is a section on security and confidentiality of your personal information.

You might also check the other categories in this page such as the data processing agreement.

Re: Requiring name on sign up
This one is a potential ¡®sticky wicket¡¯ as some have noted. And, for any and many reasons, some folks want to remain anonymous to the rest, and some groups want unabashed outright attachments made. ? I manage a few Groups, among them a Group for Retired, Past, Associated, and Current members of a moderately large fire department. Our membership includes folks who retired from the department in the 80¡¯s ¨C who none of the Current or even past 25 years membership may have only heard of, or not. Likewise, those of us oldtimers (I worked from ¡¯69-2002; retired since then), know those older than us but few who hired on after we retired ¨C and some of them are retiring now! A display name of ¡®bumperbender¡¯ might be readily recognized by anyone who was around when the ¡®bumper bending¡¯ took place, but not by anyone who joins today; or, conversely, if the bumper got bent today, none of the oldtimers would have a clue who it was. ¡°HoseA¡± and ¡°JoseB¡± just don¡¯t identify anything or anyone. And the common theme among all of us is that at one time or another we shared some of our many ¡®family of things.¡¯ Unlike so many people and groups ¨C we¡¯ve slept in each other¡¯s beds, eaten from the same plates, and possibly pulled each other¡¯s bacon out of a fire. ? We insist on using/showing the ¡®real name¡¯ ¨C and/or, in the case or a ¡®widow or widower/significant other¡¯ we¡¯ll show the actual name of the Group member with the name of the former firefighter in parenthesis. i.e. ¡®John Brown¡¯, versus ¡°Jane (John) Brown¡±. I tell any proposed new member that I send an invite to that they should ¡°fill in YOUR KNOWN NAME in the Display Name field when you get to the sign-in page. If you don¡¯t, I¡¯ll fill it in for you.¡± I¡¯ve had a few applicants who only submitted with their email moniker¡and held the application until I got an answer back from them identifying them and assuring I knew they were ¡®one of us¡¯ and appropriate for membership; then approved them and added their appropriate Display Name. ? -- Dan Tucker [Personal information trimmed by Moderator] |

The "old attachments" purge job runs only once a week (I don't remember what day). If you need to free up space sooner than that, you should probably start "panic deleting."?

Re: Requiring name on sign up
> And what possible difference can it make???
?
My main group is for residents of my neighborhood only. We require each prospective member to tell us their full name and to put that name in their display field. We also require them to tell us their property address. We verify their information with state property records; if there is any question about their authenticity I contact someone at a neighboring home. Only then do we approve their membership.?
My members want to feel safe knowing that they¡¯re having a discussion with an actual neighbor and not any random person who feels like joining.?

Pileup at Storage Limit! Now what?
A member was uploading a stack of PDFs, a dozen or more, multi page.? I had told her it was OK because I thought it was.? Suddenly a NO MORE ROOM alert!!? The Old Attachments Auto-Removal switch was on, and I'd not received an 80% warning.
?
My guess is that the space filled too quickly for the fail-safes to kick in, so my instinct is to sit tight to see if it fixes itself overnight.? Is that reasonable?? Or, should I start panic deleting on my own?
?
Thx, Laurie |
