Re: Owner Status Changed #access #groupowner #owner

Facts in evidence:

1. I own four groups.

2. All groups use the same e-mail for my log in.

3. Two of the four still show "Owner" when selected, proving I'm logged in with the correct e-mail.

4. One of the four now shows me as a "Moderator" instead of "Owner".

5. One now shows nothing.? I'm just a "member" with posting privileges.

6. I log in, and can select any of the four groups using the same e-mail address.? If I were using the "wrong address", none of the groups would show me as "Owner".? The fact two of the four DO show me as "Owner" prove I'm using the correct e-mail address.

7. No one else has any access within the groups as a moderator or any other role.

8. Using a yahoo address for testing (unrelated to my official Groups.io address), I can send e-mail to the "Owner" e-mail address for the group where I'm no longer shown as "Owner" when I log in, and I receive the test message at my "Owner" e-mail address used for logging in.

Conclusions based on the above:

I *AM* using the correct e-mail address or none of the groups would show me as "Owner".? Two of the four still show me as "Owner".? (One shows me as "Moderator", not owner.)

Though it's not showing me as "Owner" when I log into the subject group, I'm still on record with Groups.io as the owner (with my login e-mail address) or I would not have received the test message I sent to "main+owner@***.groups.io (Group name redacted).

I recently started using a VPN to connect to the internet. Several sites reported that my password was incorrect. I closed the VPN and I could easily log into the sites that were refusing my password.

Re: Owner Status Changed #access #groupowner #owner

I'm basing it on the following:

In the top menu bar, one of the options is the "Your Groups" drop-down box.? Clicking that drop-down displays the groups of which the user is a member.? All four of the groups I own are listed.

Clicking on a group name opens that selected group, as all of you know.

Then, at the top of the "Menu" column on the left side of the page is the "Home" option.? Two of my four groups still show me as "Owner" with an "Owner" icon immediately adjacent to the "Home" menu option.

Those same two groups also show an "Administration" option as "Admin" in the menu column.

The group in question no longer shows the "Owner" icon next to the "Home" option.? In fact, no icon of any sort is present.? The "Admin" option is also not shown.

To the people asking if I'm logging in with the correct e-mail address ... please note: I've owned these groups since Groups.io was founded.? I'm one of the original members and owners, and own four groups.? I use the same e-mail address for logging into all four of my groups.? If I was logged in with an [otherwise] incorrect e-mail address, it would not show the "Owner" icon for two of the four groups.

Something within Groups.io itself has changed my status.? I am the owner of all four of these groups.? Two of the groups still show the "Owner" icon next to the "Home" option in the menu column.? One of the four groups now shows me as a "Moderator" (with a "Mod" icon) instead of "Owner", and the 4th group doesn't show anything at all next to "Home".

I have changed NOTHING on my end related to Groups.io.? I had to upgrade my operating system on my main computer in the past two days.? When I logged into Groups.io on the updated computer, the aforementioned problems were noted.? Thinking something may have changed, I then used a backup computer with all of the original software and settings that had been working perfectly on Groups.io just hours earlier.? Same result.? Subsequently, it doesn't appear to be anything related to the updated computer.

Please realize I teach computers and the Internet at the Ph.D and post-doctoral levels, and have a reasonably good grasp on how things work in that respect.? This appears something has changed within Groups.io as associated with my accounts.

Damn comma sound like to me, you need to make sure that you're logged in with the right email address. I would go click on your name, and then click on settings, and review the email that is on that account that you're looking at. Some people are notorious for having multiple email address subscribed.

This morning, I was notifified by e-mail (standard procedure) that a message with an attachment required my attention as owner/moderator.? I clicked the link in the e-mail (as usual), and when I logged in, it no longer shows me as "owner" of the group in question.? A test message sent to the "owner" e-mail address for that group was received by me at the correct e-mail address, so I'm still associated as "owner" in that respect.
?
Further checking: Two of my four groups still show me as "owner".? One group now shows me as a moderator (not owner), and the 4th group (the one where I need to review messages) now shows me as just a standard "member".? All of my four groups still show up under the "My Groups" heading, and "posting" privileges listed for me in the groups are correct.
?
No settings have been changed in any of these groups in the past year, and no other people are owners or moderators of these groups, hence no chance any other person may have done something wrong.

Suggestions for corrective action and recovery appreciated.

No, I don't have a second e-mail address registered as an owner.

As stated in my original post, I *AM* the owner of four groups.? I am the sole owner of all of the groups.? There are nNo other owners or moderators.? Today, with no action taken on my part in any manner other than logging in, I'm now suddenly shown as a regular member of one group; a moderator of one group, and am still shown as owner of the remaining two groups.? My ownership of the group where I'm now just a "member" is proven by the fact I was able to send an e-mail message to the "Owner" e-mail address that's shown for the group, and I received it.? So ...somewhere I'm still the registered owner as far as Groups.io is concerned.? However, when I log into that group, I'm now at the status of a regular member.? No "owner" privileges.? Somewhere within the confines of Groups.io, a setting was changed to cause this.

I'd like to know what I can do to restore my status as owner.

Indications are .. the management of Groups.io won't be responsive unless it's a "Premium" group, which these aren't.? Our Groups.io sites were established for a non-profit organization, and we don't have the budget for a "Premium" group.

Remember that a login problem is at the account level, not the group level.?

Pete?

Re: Owner locked out

Not really answers I'm afraid, but ...

Are you the sole owner of these groups? Might someone else (another owner)? have mistakenly banned you from the group?

Do make sure that when pasting, or whatever, from your password keeper that you don't have a stray space appearing at the front. I have been caught out by that (a box pre-populated with a single space) once or twice although I don't think it has happened to me on groups.io

How about trying a different browser and then using Email Me A Link To Login if the password doesn't work?

help with emails being truncated

Hi,
?
A group I admin has always truncated email addresses since I started 5 years ago- showing them incomplete (the first part of the email shows and the latter half is just "..."). If we put a space somewhere in the email we can get around it.
?
However, just today I noticed another group I'm in doesn't automatically truncate emails addresses. How can I get my group to stop truncating email addresses?
?
Thanks!

If one attempts to go to (not ) one finds that the domain is for sale.

Re: Calendar appointment not being delivered to the members of a subgroup

On Wed, Feb 12, 2025 at 07:17 PM, RHSC Communications wrote:
We run a series of subgroups, each of them quite active. We organize monthly calls, and we usually do so by setting up an Outlook calendar, and inviting the "email" address of the subgroup.
This has always worked well, people usually get a calendar invite, and regardless if they accept it or not, it stays in their Outlook - which is great.
?
However, in one of the subgroups, the calendar invite was converted to an .ics file and nobody received the regular meeting request. We've tried to replicate it on other groups, but without success.
When you send a meeting invite to your group, you will be sending a .ics file. Groups.io processes this, adds it to the calendar and sends the meeting invite to the members with a .ics file attachment.? As you have mentioned, this will automatically show in someone's Outlook calendar.? If you reckon nobody received a message, the first place I would check is the Activity Log for the group in question. It will tell you if Groups.io received the message from that member in the first place. If the message was received and processed as you expected, you should see the meeting details on the group calendar.? Note: a member sending a meeting invite to the group will need to have permission to add events to the calendar in order for Groups.io to do that.
?
If a member did not receive a message from Groups.io then the place to check is their Email Delivery History.? If Groups.io successfully delivered the message to the member's mail provider, Groups.io has done its job.? If message delivery has failed for some reason, the details will either be in the Unsuccessful Attempts section (and Groups.io will try again multiple times) or it will be in the Bounces section.

What would be the best way of setting calendar meetings -- from Outlook or from the Group interface?
?
For a basic meeting, it shouldn't matter which way you do it.? If you want to create a meeting/event, limit numbers and have Groups.io manage a waitlist for you, then do it form the Groups.io site.

What if we want to keep anonymous the people that respond to that calendar invite?
Any member that has access to the calendar will be able to see who has responded (assuming it's an RSVP event).? If the email address entered in the Organiser Email field is a member of the group, they will have full control over the calendar event which includes being able to delete it.? It's not possible to have an RSVP event and keep the responses anonymous. If you define an RSVP event and define a question to ask for additional information, that response is only visible to Moderators and the event organiser.
