Are you sure the original was really a JPG? I've seen a lot of "JPEGS" on the internet that were actually WEBP files with a JPG file extension.

Message with JPG attachment saves attachment as WEBP in Message Archives

Yesterday, 2025-01-28, a group that I am a member of received a post which had an attachment on it. ( /g/MFCL/message/105719 ) The attachment was a JPG file of approximately 260 Kb. My membership is set to receive all attachments, and the attachment shows in the message I received as a JPG file, and it opened fine on Irfanview on my desktop machine. [ Win11Pro. Firefox, OEClassic Pro Ver 4.9.3, Irfanviex Ver 4.7 (64 bit) ]

However, groups.io saved the attachment on the web page (presumably in Photos) as a WEBP file. People who don't accept attachments and prefer links to open them from the web were somewhat concerned because someone stated tht WEBP wasn't as secure of a format as JPG. An extended discussion followed. I'm curious if this is usual or if something has changed.

I still have the original in my inbox, but the file on the web site was deleted and replaced with the JPG file I had reposted. Does anyone have any answers regarding this, or is it something I should take to Beta?

I have Mod status in the main group of a premium group. I am also a member
of a subgroup but in the subgroup membership list there is (as expected) no
flag against me. However, in that subgroup, on the left in the web
interface I see the flag "Owner" up at top against the Home link. Looking
around, I do indeed seem to have owner capabilities in that subgroup.

This may just be a database discrepancy that Mark could fix but if anyone
has any idea how this might have come about I'd be pleased to hear!

In a different group (legacy free with subgroups) I have a subgroup which I
am not a member of and when I view that subgroup, against Home I have the
flag "Parent owner". I cannot though see how being a "Parent moderator"
would show up as an "Owner" flag in a subgroup.

This is quite normal. If your main group settings (Admin > Settings > Features (panel) ) allow you to create a subgroup then you will see the blue Owner badge in the group you created:

Again, this is normal. If you are the Owner of a group, you have owner permissions on all subgroups regardless of whether you have created them or not.? If a member or Moderator of your main group creates a new subgroup then you will show as a Parent Owner:

I may have cracked it but I will wait overnight before reporting it to
beta as a bug/inconsistency.

This premium group to which I am a 'main' moderator (with all permissions
granted) has several subgroups. One I am a member of and against Home I
have the flag "Owner" but in the other subgroups where I am not a member
that flag is "Parent owner".

Something for Mark to sort out I think but as i said, I'll give you folks
overnight to comment before I send it to beta.

best, Malcolm.

Hello, yes, this is possible. If you can log into the old account, on Groups. io meeting with the email address and password or an email me a login link. Then click on your name, go down to account, clear out the old email address, and entering the new one, and then when you get an email at the new address, click the link to confirm, login with the new email ID and its respective password, and this will merge the two accounts. You will need to check the box that says yes I understand, when changing the email ID. To make the change go through. But other than that, you should be good and Golden.

You could add a bookmark for /pendingmsgs
It shows pending messages from any group.

You could also use the app.

I sometimes do it through my email. I filter my mail to go a folder for each group. However I often like to open the message.

Re: Message Recall Failure: Recall

Dear Frances,
?
One person used "message recall" at her end, and then these error messages started being automatically generated in response. The accounts they come from are real people, but they haven't knowingly taken any action themselves.

Fortunately, locking the topic does seem to have done the trick, though it's hard to prove a negative.

Otherwise, I have the nuclear option to temporarily put all messages on moderate, as (the other) Andy suggests.

I don't see anything about "message recall" in Groups.io itself.

You say that several member accounts are trying to do message recalls in your group. Are they all real separate people?
Could you put your group on moderate temporarily so you can sort things out?
