Re: Mods given editing power in member's signatures?
J and LeeAnne -
Maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems to me that I can edit signatures at the bottom of plain text messages. Is this what you're referring to? Plain text messages that still allow attachments seems to eliminate a lot of problems for me. Also, just a thought about attachments. LeeAnne, I may not be understanding you completely. Perhaps attachments would work for you if you had them set to delete the oldest as the limits approach. You could set the attachments size limit to avoid the accidental monster photo to stretch you apace even more. Just a thought. One question this brings to mind - If a group is near its size limit and someone posts a file or an image in the Photos area, will that displace an attachment, or do only messages push attachments out? Re: The Transfer
Stan,
I never got a response that my message was received. Can I just assume they got it? Mark says he set something up to automatically send a message to the Y!Group's -owner address as soon as he receives the Invite. Bottom item here: So have a look in your spam folder or anywhere else an -owner message may have been delivered. That response should happen immediately, whereas the transfer won't actually accept the invitation, and you will not get the "new member" notice, until your turn in the queue. Even though your membership has moved, I wonder if Mark ([email protected]) couldn't still move your messages over?

Perhaps my experience will be helpful to some. I moved 2 very small groups early on in groups.io's existence. I didn't use the transfer agent Mark has made available because both groups were so small, and it was easy to just invite everyone, plus they all knew we were "trying" this to see how we liked it. It worked very well, and we remain on groups.io. However, I had a larger list and I really dreaded making the change for a number of reasons. I don't know them all personally, and some are not particularly computer literate. At first I figured using the transfer agent would be the smoothest and easiest, given the feedback from several owners. However I kept postponing and hoping YG would shape up. Didn't happen - kept getting worse. Then the feedback started that owners trying to use the transfer were experiencing delays due to the huge numbers of folks bailing out from YG. I was concerned that might complicate our move, and we might actually miss the opportunity to make a transfer if YG became completely inaccessible. I decided my archives were not important enough to move. I could move the members who wanted to move, a re-create any necessary files. I downloaded YG group list to a database on my computer, then created my new group with the same name on Friday, and posted an explanation of what would be happening to the YG group. I received incredibly supportive feedback and gratitude almost immediately, so on Saturday morning I started sending invites, usually 130 or so at a time. I immediately began to get notices that the invites were being accepted. By Sunday midday, all invites were sent, and everyone who had made the leap was delighted with how easy it was. So far the new list is about 20% to 25% of the old list. However folks still continue to join, so I don't think we've topped out yet. A large percentage of the addresses on the old list were actually no good, I suppose due to YG's lack of maintenance, so that accounts for some. Obviously there will be some who chose not to move, but I think that's healthy. The people who were using the list and benefiting from it will be on the new list on groups.io. Those who were no longer contributing or even reading won't be on the new list, which seems appropriate. I know skipping using the transfer agent saved us a lot of time, but it did mean sacrificing our archives, so it's not a one size fits all solution. However, it's worth giving some thought to. While you're in one of your groups, select Subscription from the left menu (2nd or 3rd item down.)? That should get you where you want to go.

Okay, I have done it! Thanks.

Click on in the top left in order to bring up all of your groups and this changes the menu in the left column. ?Or click on Manage Your Subscriptions in Your Groups to change to this same menu.
?
The Followed and Muted are in a dropdown menu under Topics (left menu). Hashtags are there too.

Re: After the transfer, some YG subscribers immediately opt out of new list on groups.io
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou don¡¯t think Groups.io is working well? I do! We did our transfer maybe five weeks ago, after testing our new group out for about ten days before that. I turned everything off at the old group (No new members have been accepted there), and the only thing I use it for now is a sign post to redirect potential new members. I did a Google search for our group about three weeks ago, and our old Y group would come up on the first search results page, and the Groups.io group would be 3-4 pages back. The other day I did another search, and our Groups.io site came up on the first page. I could be wrong, but I¡¯m thinking maybe the activity at the Groups.io group, is causing it to come up first over the Y group. Once a week I send out a post from both groups reminding the members that the old site is shutting, and if they are staying with the new group to do the poll or email me personally. With those names I keep a list of members staying, and at the end of the month I¡¯ll be doing some house cleaning of the membership, then shut down the old site for good. If things get intolerable at Groups.io, I can always go back to Y and make a new group if I wanted too¡If that will be possible. ? Don ? ? A few days ago, Mark posted that he had over 400 groups waiting to be moved. I would guess that your message was probably received, but with that many groups waiting to be moved, there's just no time to acknowledge every request received.

Re: Mods given editing power in member's signatures?
Hi Paul,
We don't allow attachments or photos in our messages or our members would quickly use up ALL the dataspace on the entire internet so there we did? make a very simple email template for doing their signatures . It contains direct links, graphics and arrows.? The problem is they make mistakes (I'm not kidding when I say we sometimes? need to teach them how to copy and paste!).? When things get screwed up it creates layers upon layers of confusion for them.?? And of course, there is the added frustration of the crazy font sizes in the posted signatures caused hidden formatting brought on by copying and pasting from email to groups.io composers.?? It would be a god send to our overworked moderators to be able to just edit the signatures.?? Some people would say if the members are too computer illiterate to follow simple directions then too bad for them.? But it is not just them.? We help members who horses feet are too sore to even stand on.? Every day wasted sending and waiting for instructions to be interpreted and followed, means a horse is in a lot of pain ( often at 7-10 levels on a scale of 1-10).? J, I will go and suggest this right now in Beta.?? Thanks!?? -- -LeeAnne ?Archivist |

p.s. If they can't figure out how to change it, worst comes to worst you can remove their current email address's membership, and send them an invite (or direct add, if you're a premium group) to the address they want. On Tue, Feb 20, 2018 at 10:07 AM, J_Catlady <j.olivia.catlady@...> wrote:

I'm pretty new here, but as far as I can tell, you can only manage your follows and mutes on the 'Manage My Subscriptions" page, which is basically the dashboard showing you your groups. One level up from the group(s) you belong to.
IOW, you can't manage them at the group level, you have to do it globally at the Groups.io level. I'm hoping Mark will add the ability to manage follows/mutes at the group level soon. Click on the 'Your Groups' menu -> Manage My Subscriptions Cheers. |

I never do this on mobile so I'm not sure about that. But like the documentation says, on your computer go to and look on the left sidebar. There should be "Topics" and under that "Followed." Click on that to bring up the list of all topics you're following, click on the one you want to unfollow, and then click on "unfollow." You have to go specifically to , which appears at the top left of any other page you're on. Click on that first.
