transfer and translation
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe more I read about the transfer waiting line getting longer and longer, the more I see yahoo problems heaping up and the more I hear talk about shutting YGs down, the more panicky I get about missing the right moment to have my group transferred. I am convinced the transfer itself will cause a big loss of members. But the fact that they will suddenly not only have to adjust to a new look but to a different language as well keeps me from initiating transfer before a translation is available. ? So I really do not know what to do. I certainly am not understating if I tell you that there are thousands of German yahoo groups with serious issues which all eventually will join the wainting line for transfer as soon as a German version is available. ? Concerned regards ? Victoria

a question & a bit of advice
FWIW, we put our YG group into full moderation and edited our notifications: Pending Mbr, Reject and Goodbye notes all point to our new group here. And a notice on the YG homepage that we have moved, of course.

As for number of YG groups, the "reported" figures from years ago is 10 million groups and 100 million users: I still haven't decided if YG is falling apart or if new owners are just poking around and kicking the tires a bit. Simply abandoning "x" million users wouldn't be something to do lightly, I would think. Should be interesting. Drew On 02/20/18 09:05, Ruthie Levi wrote:
for those who ask about how to handle ur old YG, with regard to new members¡we shut down the ability for new members to join, which causes an email to the ¡°owner¡± email address when the person attempts to apply for membership, so in this way, we still capture the person¡¯s interest & can redirect them to the new IO group. |
Re: After 6 days, still no transfer from yahoogroups
Is there any particular order in when they get transferred? Our group has 2 'owners' and the other owner sent the 'start transfer' request on 2/8 or 2/9. To date, no transfer. Seems odd that Ken's group would get transferred in 6 1/2 days, while we're still waiting. Unless Mark is having trouble with Yahoo!'s side of things.?

Have that member check their spam filter. I've sent out invitations and had members join within 5 minutes.

The 5,000 mark and a larger number could have other consequences. Why don't we stop taking things so personally and just consider the facts?

Re: change owner name on invitation
The name used is automatically taken from the info of the person that's signed in and issuing the invitation.? I think it's the Display Name.? Easiest would be to split the invite list to send.? You could 'spoof' the other persons name by temporarily changing your ID to theirs, but that might get confusing, especially if you forgot to change it back.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, I think it may have landed on his or her spam/junk folder somewhere. Once an invitation is sent, Groups.IO will output a message on the confirmation page, letting you know if the invite was successful (at least if the email was sent). Cheers, Joseph ? My group was approved in about 10 minutes so unless there is some other issue you should get it soon.

Hey Everyone,
Now that my group is approved, I am trying to add members. This is a new group and I am not transferring from Yahoo, but adding members one at a time. I sent an invitation to a team member and to a test email. Neither went through and it has been over 24 hours, I also went back and checked the box to resend the invite, but still nothing. Am I doing something wrong or does it take multiple days to invite a single new member? |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have left one of my yahoo groups open, and the odd person still posts there. ?In fact, if I have a lot of picture type jokes, I send it to the yahoo group instead of incurring excess mb¡¯s on .io.There is no interaction between the .io group and the yahoo one, both have the same name. Re: After the transfer, some YG subscribers immediately opt out of new list on groups.io
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJim, ? I've been saving the unsubscribe notices/e-mails and after a month may just send a follow-up notice in case they did exactly what you said. ken "It has always seemed strange to me," said Doc. These are probably people who didn't even remember they were in the group and, when given an explicit opportunity, were reminded of it and made a clean break. It's very unlikely that they quit because of the move.I know first hand that members in one group I belong to quit because of the move. They thought they had been added to a new group, that they did not request be added to, not related to the yahoo group they belong to. They said this in email messages in the yahoo group (before it was shut down). Again, this gets to the ability to unsubscribe to the IO group with lightening speed in the welcoming message that I mentioned in a message days ago and just now again in a response within the past half hour.
