How did you get to that selection of options you posted the image of? All I can see is Messages, New Topics, Drafts, and New Poll. When I click on New Poll, I'm taken to the New Poll creation page. At the very top of that page I can see the name of my group/Polls (with the icon)/New Poll. Clicking on Polls (with the icon), displays all our past polls.

Ken,

You can see what he's referring to by comparing /g/BayAstro/topic/events_of_week_of_07_15_2024/107225956 and /g/BayAstro/topic/events_of_week_of_09_09_2024/108349544.? If you join the group, you could look at the source code of the messages to see if there are differences? in how the photos were included, say imbedded vs attached.

I had a look at these two message sources and you're using Apple Mail to compose and send in the messages. I'm no expert in message formatting by any means but it looks like the issue is with Apple Mail config or the way you're formatting the messages, has anything changed in its configuration/settings or something, for composing new messages?

One things that's different between the two, a "good" one shows this:
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
?? ?boundary="Apple-Mail=_92A20DF4-FBC4-4AE9-8049-AED8F143AA17"

--Apple-Mail=_92A20DF4-FBC4-4AE9-8049-AED8F143AA17
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Type: text/plain;
?? ?charset=utf-8
vs a "bad" one:
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
?? ?boundary="Apple-Mail=_C7C19F85-0D1F-4876-B71D-3EE8119C5759"

--Apple-Mail=_C7C19F85-0D1F-4876-B71D-3EE8119C5759
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Content-Type: text/plain;
?? ?charset=us-ascii

There are other differences on how the message source is displayed due to the above differences, the good one shows this:
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
vs the bad one:
==============================

plus some other formatting differences due to the Content-Transfer-Encoding difference.

Again, I'm not very knowledgeable in message formatting, but it almost looks like the bad ones were sent strictly as text-only (instead of HTML), and that would cause any embedded inline images to appear at the bottom as (true) attachments. Or something to that effect, things point to the way the messages are formatted when sent in and not due to Groups.io handling.

Cheers,
Christos

Hi Sally

No I am not seeing that or having it reported by my subscribers

But rather than your account being hacked, it sounds like one of your subscribers email accounts has been compromised

This is a classic phishing ploy.
?
The "bad guys" harvest email addresses of people who have some relationship to each other, and exploit that by sending a message to one of them purporting to be the other one. Usually, I see this in my non-profit organization, where I receive mysterious messages from the "President" asking me to contact him or send money somewhere. The spammer has obviously stolen our addresses from our web site (where I am listed as a board member).
?
It can also be done via phone call. We once had someone call claiming to be our grandson, who had just gotten into a wreck. My wife got all upset about this until I asked to be handed the phone and demanded that the caller provide his name.
?
"It's me, your grandson."
"Yes, but what is your NAME? You know your own name, don't you?"
[Wild guess...] "Mike Bowman?"
?
I hung up on him.

Are other groups seeing this, or does it mean that my account has been hacked?
A hacked account seems unlikely, especially if you're not the one who seems to be "sending/receiving" these messages. That said, there are steps you can take to inhibit spammers from harvesting email addresses:
?
1) Set "Member List Visibility" to owners only,
2) Make the group's message archive private, and/or
3) Turn on "mask email addresses in archive"
?
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

In addition to the questions Andy asked, try to determine if you are
doing anything different than you were when this wasn't happening. He
asked about your email client if you are posting by email, so did you
change email clients, like switch from Thunderbird to Outlook, etc.
(insert your email programs here)? If you are posting from the group
website, are you using a different web browser at times?

It may indeed be a bug in the system created when Mark made some other
change, but I would expect it's something you are doing different from
when this didn't happen.

You don't mention how you are posting messages (web / app / email) and if email, what client you are using. What method are you using to include your pictures (attach / insert)? Also, when you view the messages, how is that being done (web / app / email) and are there any differences between them? More information will help us to help you.

The available features have changed over time.? You can see on our Wiki page that new Basic (free) groups don't have Files, nor many other items.? You can get those by upgrading to Premium (or higher).

A poll is just a particular type of message and it appears in the message archive. Files and databases etc. are not messages so have their own sections.

Because there isn't really any such section.
Actually, a Polls section apparently exists. it's just hidden. If you click on New Poll, at the top of the next page there is a Polls link, which takes you to a page with a list of polls completed or in progress.
I appreciate your suggestions, but I still wonder why Polls are not entitled to a proper section, linked in the menu. They are no less important than chats or Files or databases.
