Re: Has ¡®>¡¯ character gotten some new importance?
On Mon, Jul 22, 2024 at 05:08 PM, KWKloeber asked (in GMF):
Is this a recent change? As previously said, I don't know. It could be. ?
?
On Mon, Jul 22, 2024 at 11:03 PM, KWKloeber asked (in beta):
Why does ">>>" occasionally come across as a BQ triple indent, and sometimes come across as was intended, as text?? Ken -- This is an entirely different question.
?
In the actual message - and in outgoing emails - the sequence of greater-than signs are retained as typed. They are only converted to blockquotes for display on the web site.*
?
If you insert a space character between them and any subsequent text, they will not be displayed as blockquotes.
?
I cannot speak to what anyone's email client may be doing with them.
?
Regards,
Bruce
?
*I would be receptive to a change to suppress this behavior.

Bruce
it does make some sense but, of course, a Mod should be able to make that type of change (say Bold the text.)

VERY strange goings on, but at least I now know why the Toolbar is gone.
Thanks!

I'm getting the image below when looking at some of my past posts with screenshots, even though at the time I posted them they looked fine Nichole -- There are a number of things that could cause this.

- All images and files in messages are stored as attachments. If you have the group set up to "delete old attachments" they will eventually disappear.
- Deleting any image from the Emailed Photos folder will also remove it from the message.
- If the image was inserted as a link to somewhere else (<IMG> tag), and that image is subsequently removed at the source, a broken link will be displayed.
?
To sort this out further we will need more details on exactly what you've been doing.

Yes, even plain text messages are doing this. The message itself still contains the greater-than sign but it's converted into indents for display.
I'm unsure if this is new behavior. I do suggest that if you're switching back and forth between plain text and html in your group settings some anomalies can be expected.

On Mon, Jul 22, 2024 at 03:41 PM, I wrote:
Is this group set to Plain Text only? If so, there will be no formatting toolbar. I've also discovered - just now - that if the original message was posted as plain text (i.e.: it has no HTML mime part) you cannot edit it to add formatting later. This is true regardless of any changes you might make to the group settings in an attempt to allow it.
?
Makes sense, if a little counter-intuitive.

Has ¡®>¡¯ character gotten some new importance?
When replying I consistently use:
>>> msg quote <<< rather than block quoting, ?BQing doesn¡¯t always show up on emails sent out and/or doesn¡¯t work well when inserting replies into multiple locations of a long OP. ?Nevah had an issue when doing this in an emailed reply, and I believe also when replying via the iOS App.?
?
?I did this (below) and the result (2nd below) was very different than previously. ?
I edited/tested this several times/ways and it appears that ?¡°>¡± is now not displayed and forces an indented block.

Is this a recent change?

Re: Unable to download messages

You can always create a separate Gmail email account and make it a backup owner with no email delivery or notifications, and if this happens again turn that account on temporarily so you can get the messages and notifications in the meantime until the Fastmail account gets working again. If you don't have a second owner in your group (either you as a separate email address or someone else) this is also a good opportunity to add it, you never know if something goes wrong with the original owner address, and this way you can have a backdoor. Cheers, Christos |
Re: Unable to download messages
Yes, I meant not delivered through my email program on my computer.? Thanks for the heads up about Fastmail.? I'll see if they come in later tonight.? That is not helpful at all for them to be delayed like that since I am the owner of my group and people depend on me to make timely responses. Oh well.? Thanks again.

I see all the tools on my iPhone. See attached photo.
The version number for the Groups.io app is 2.0 - the latest in the App Store.

My iOS is 17.5.1

Editing a msg using the iOS App (I have cropped down the screen.)

I recall that when editing a message I had access to the formatting toolbar. (minus features like inserting an image/attaching a file.)
Before I ¡°go Beta,¡± has that gone away (or is this perhaps another opportunity to call me crazy!?)

I originally uploaded them locally!! to be able to ¡°reuse them.¡±

Doesn't posting a link only provide the member a path to the file, not render the image?

For the last two days, none of my messages are being downloaded to my computer.? The only way I can see anything is to login to my group online, Any suggestions?? Do you mean that you aren't getting messages through email?
?
First, check Subscription, Settings. Then check your Email Delivery History - from Subscription.
And check to see if you are bouncing.
?
Have you muted recent topics??
On the Group interface, click on Groups.io so the menu with Feed appears. Below that you can see Topics. Click to see Muted and Followed topics. Same for Hashtags.

Someone on Group_Help recently reported that Fastmail has been throttling groups.io messages.? /g/Group_Help/message/6598? Since you're on Fastmail too, I suspect you're experiencing the same thing. Be patient and they should be delivered eventually.
?
Please also note that your subscription to GMF is set to "No Email" so you won't get any from here.
