Re: Bulk tagging (and deleting) message posts with certain hash tags
Thanks Duane and Frances, the alias option worked nicely.
?
My only remaining question, which Frances seemed to answer, but I want to be crystal clear...
?
After I create the alias in the hashtag that I want to no longer appear, can I DELETE that hashtag and will the alias addition still apply on the posts in question?? e.g. right now, your advice works perfectly and all of the posts in question bear the other hash tag... I'm just wondering (?) if the "effect" will still be there once (IF?) I DELETE the old hash tag in which the alias was inserted?
?
Hopefully that makes sense... I'd like to delete it (I'm a housecleaning nut, sigh), but can leave it alone as I see that once you put in the alias, that one no longer appears on the dropdown list from which members can choose...

i.e. Do you wish to change all messages with #halifax to #NovaScotia
?
If you do, first, you do it in # Hashtags. Click on Edit for the particular hashtag you want to get rid of.
?
Then just create an alias for that hashtag. (If the hashtag you want for the alias doesn't exist yet, create it. e.g. in my sample, add #NovaScotia)
?
System message appears when you make an alias - Note: Topics tagged with #halifax will be transferred to #NovaScotia.
?
Any other hashtags on individual messages are retained. Just removes the one you are creating an alias for. Then delete the old hashtag in Hashtags.

If you want to replace the hashtag on all messages that have it, you can edit the existing hashtag to make it an alias (redirect) of the one you want to use.? In most cases, this is only used to consolidate variations of a hashtag, but it should work just as well for a bulk replacement in this case.

Bulk tagging (and deleting) message posts with certain hash tags
I'm probably not looking in the right place (or more likely, I'm not awake enough), but...
?
I have about 700 message posts (involving over 300 different topics) that were tagged with a particular hash tag (and in some cases, along with other tags).? I want to DELETE the particular hash tag from ALL of those posts and REPLACE it with another existing hash tag...? I know I can click on the hashtag selection and bring up all of the posts in question, but how do I go from there, e.g. select all, etc, and do the delete/replace?? Or, does that option simply not exist? Or, do I have to do it on a 1x1 basis (ugh)?

Re: Making a PDF File Publicly Available
Thanks for your responses. Linking to a file elsewhere should work.? It is too bad there isn't a way to set permissions individually for files in the files section. On Sat, Jul 20, 2024 at 5:44?PM Frances via <frances=[email protected]> wrote:

use a link on your group (wiki page?) As Duane suggests, you can make your wiki publicly available. But you'd have to put it somewhere else if it is a PDF. You can put images on a wiki, but not a PDF.

In theory, you could also put a link on your homepage but perhaps a bit messier. Again, a link to the document somewhere else.

(The wiki is available to premium groups and to older free groups who have it as a legacy feature.)

Making a PDF File Publicly Available
I've consulted the Owner's Manual but haven't found how to do what I want to do or even if it is possible.? I moderate a neighborhood association group (premium), and I'm trying to figure out how to make a PDF file publicly available.? Our Files section is only available to members, and individual files don't have options to override that unless I've missed something.? We have text items that are publicly available as sticky wikin pages, but the PDF file I want to make available to anyone is formatted for printing as a booklet and has photos as well as text, so simply copying it into a text file for the Wiki won't work. Is there a way to make a PDF file available to the general public?? If so, how can I do it? Thanks for any help you can provide. |
Re: Blurry photos?
Frances, thank you. Hadn't thought to do that. But they were all set at Unlimited attachment size. The two who replied both have older IPhones. I asked them to check and see if they were trying to attach JPEG or HEIC format files. One is pretty capable, the other gave me a chuckle when she replied that she doesn't speak Greek.?
Anyway. it looks like things have now "cleared" up. So I'm back to my original guess that it was an issue with their phones.

Yes, you can delete a photo and leave the post.

I opened the post. Clicked on Edit Message with the More.
Then checked the box to choose the one I wanted deleted. Then clicked to delete without sending it to members. The message is still intact. The paperclip icon is still on these test emails, but that *might* disappear. Not sure.
?
This works for photos and attachments.
?
I also could go to Photos, Emailed Photos. Selected the one to delete. Then click on Delete.?

Deleting an attachment but leaving the email in messages
#question
Hi All,
?
Is there any way to delete the attachment to an email and leave the email?? When I clicked on More at the bottom of the email after going Admin-Preferences-Upgrade and clicking on the View Attachments next to Attachments line, which takes me to the specific email, the only choice that would delete the attachment is to delete the message.
?
At least that's all I could find.
?
Am I missing something?
?
Or would the best way to do it be for me to go to Emailed photos and delete the attached photos from there?
?
Sincerely,
?

Even the Help doesn't say except to reply to an official request to confirm your subscription by replying to that email. Wouldn't it be better to resend the confirmation email?

Steve, They would have received a confirmation email, whether they asked to join the group or were invited directly by the group owner. When one subscribe ¡°on the website¡± as you said, you basically send an email to the group¡¯s owners requesting to join that group.
This person likely belongs to at least one other group. When you belong to more than one group in groups.io and make modifications to your profile, the changes are made across all the groups to which you belong (except for some specific to each group like email delivery).

I¡¯m not sure I¡¯d have the patience to follow up with over a thousand NC pending members. I would start with the most recent applications. Those NC who applied several months ago and haven¡¯t contacted the group to inquire might not be that interested in joining. In the member list¡ªin Admin¡ªyou could check all those NC members and download the checked ones to a .csv file. As Dano mentioned, there is the member's own setting as well as the group setting for attachment size.
To see / change the member's own setting, go to a group, choose Subscription from the menu. Then Settings. For attachments larger than this size, links to retrieve them will be provided instead."
