Why has the elephant in the room never been mentioned?

One obvious course of action/remedy is to sue the miscreant for libel.
More effective, meaningful, totally independent of and cuts off any attempts
to circumvent GIO's response. A cease and desist letter from a lawyer
might even be sufficient to stop the behavior (although probably not).

With 1500 members of your community there might even be a lawyer
amongst them willing to take the case pro bono.

Monetary damages and a court order should get her attention real quick.

I meant to ask this earlier but forgot:

You¡¯re not in this group. Is someone passing these messages on to you? Can that person not take some action within the group, at least to the level of complaining about behaviour likely to lead to the closing of the group?

I would be appreciative if I can get the information where I can file a complaint, or whatever the process is to have this CC4U site looked into. Just this past week, the owner of this site allowed the humiliation of an 86 year old woman. This is what this site allows. Constant bullying. Residents are fed up. But the residents she bullies, are not her members. They are members of my site, TheColonyEmailers. So they have no recourse to defend themselves. The owner won't allow it.

Please provide me the info where I can take this issue for, hopefully, a resolve.

Brenda,

In the Terms of Service

You agree to not use the Service to:

  1. email or otherwise upload any content that
    1. (i) infringes any intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party;
    2. (ii) you do not have a right to upload under any law or under contractual or fiduciary relationships;
    3. (iii) contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment;
    4. (iv) poses or creates a privacy or security risk to any person;
    5. (v) constitutes unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, commercial activities and/or sales, ¡°junk mail,¡± ¡°spam,¡± ¡°chain letters,¡± ¡°pyramid schemes,¡± ¡°contests,¡± ¡°sweepstakes,¡± or any other form of solicitation;
    6. (vi) is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, excessively violent, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, libelous, invasive of another¡¯s privacy, hateful racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable; or
    7. (vii) in the sole judgment of Groups.io, is objectionable or which restricts or inhibits any other person from using or enjoying the Service, or which may expose Groups.io or its users to any harm or liability of any type;
It seems to me that #6 -- threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous -- would apply here, even if such behavior were directed to someone who's not in that group.
Also, is your group, TheColonyEmailers, a groups.io group?? If so, then it would seem that #7? -- objectionable or which restricts or inhibits any other person from using or enjoying the Service -- would also apply.
As others have said, send mail to [email protected] and include examples of the behavior(s) that you describe directed towards you and/or others.

Brenda,

It has been suggested that you contact support. The Terms oF Service says
Please contact us at [email protected] to report any violations of these Terms of Service or to pose any questions regarding this Terms of Service or the Service.

However note that the terms also says: User Disputes
"You agree that you are solely responsible for your interactions with any other user in connection with the Service and Groups.io will have no liability or responsibility with respect thereto. Groups.io reserves the right, but has no obligation, to become involved in any way with disputes between you and any other user of the Service." Read the whole document here. Quote the relevant bits to Support.

At the same time, you might try an additional way to back off. If yours is an organized 55 plus community, is there some organization like a condo or strata board of directors, or management company? ?Whether or not she is an owner / occupier of a unit in your community, they may do something since she is putting your community in disrepute.

I would also suggest encouraging others to complain as well.

Frances

PS I don't think we can do anything else for you.

The group is actually called TheColonyCommunity4U. Took me a while to find it with the spaces!

Do you know what the ¡°Colony¡± is?

I understand the roadblock I have about anything that can be done. I find it a shame that she uses io.groups as her platform. I also own an io.groups Premium site that follows the io.groups Terms of Service and is well managed by my team, and we don't allow bullying or hateful remarks about the residents who live in our community.

Thanks all for you kindness and info.

The title line on our databases include the name and address of a member who is running a collection (we are a charity group) and her address was quite long. In desperation, as I had tried everything else, I trimmed it down and once that was done I was able to download the file.

Sorry for taking up your time. I very much appreciate the ability to ask fellow group leaders for help.

Thank you.

Cal-reminder emails not sent to all members #cal-reminder

We¡¯ve been running our Premium group for about six years with few mishaps. Today a reminder showed up in our messages that was not delivered to all members including those who have not muted that topic.?

? I tried editing the event and resending, but again only some members received that message ?

Any help is appreciated.?

Re: Slanderous posting

Hello!
?
OK, forgive me however, I'm a tad confused ..... Are you commenting about their actual - non - site, for which is used as their "email connection", like a mailing list "service"?? Or are you stating, specifically, how the person from the website is mismanaging the email group?? If it's about their actual site, I would think some kind of "contact us" or "list of administrators" (or whatever) might be found there, with ways to contact if an issue arises.? Out of?curiosity, I tried to do a google search for anything with the name/title you provided, I found a few things, including a YT channel for the person you mentioned .... maybe start at one of those to see about who/how to contact in cases of violations and abuse?

If you are talking about their "group" (aka "mailing list") is being run, then yes, I'd be looking at the contact info for -- most likely it will go to Mark, I am guessing?
?
If you are meaning something completely different than this .... my apologies.? ?Whatever/Whichever it is, I hope you are able to get it sorted out.

ABSOLUTELY report the owner and the group to [email protected] immediately. I assume you have screenshots of this behavior. You should provide them.
