I am thinking that this might be something that you should make Mark aware of thru the Beta group.

Members can ALWAYS delete any messages they've posted, regardless of group settings.? (If it happens to be the only message in a topic, the topic is also deleted.)? With the setting you have, they can't EDIT them.

Member deleted message and topic

Hi there,

One of my group¡¯s members was able to delete a message and topic. I thought I prevented this by checking Messaging Policies > Disable Editing Messages. The line under this option says, ¡°Don¡¯t allow members to edit their own messages.¡±

Why were they still able to delete things?

Thanks,
Steven

Pending member in hard bounce #bouncing #pendingmember

I recently removed a member because his account (on free.fr domain) continued to be in hard bounce in spite of several bounce probes.

He applied to the group again, saying that he doesn't understand why he had been removed from the group.
In the pending members page his account still has a red B next to it. The reason is: "Bounced 07.03.2022: mx1.free.fr: 550 spam detected".
His account isn't included in the group bouncing members' list (I think because he is no longer an actual member of the group, right?).

Now, what can/should I do? If his account is in hard bounce, can he receive mail from the owner's address?

Thank you for your help.
Marina

Re: Different Browsers Give Different Results

I found the section in Firefox for the assigning and saving cookies to use for logging into specific sites, but so far it is hit and miss if it saves it. Still working on it. After using one browser for so long, and getting use to how it works, it takes a little time to work through a new one.

I'll look at that link you offered Dave.

Thanks,
Don

Re: Moderator received two identical messages!

Thank you for your swift reply.? I've appended my response to your original message.

-- Is this moderator on the reverification list? If so, it stands to reason she would receive two copies...one the original and one the bcc. No.
-- Were you unable to contact everyone with a single message and had to do it twice? If so, then this moderator would receive two bcc's. Yes and approximately 40% of the messages were 'qued for delivery'

Does this assist?? I'm not overly concerned hoping its a one-off.

Kind regards

And whilst cookies are the engine of the web that follows us and allows ads to target us there are steps that can be taken. That is, if the work is done, the cookies can be managed and kept to a minimum.
This is merely a random link about cookies ON/cookies OFF:?
We may desire a curated collection of cookies to allow us to store the login for groups.io say. When there is a will, there is a way.

The login is stored as a cookie. If you disable cookies, it won't work.

Re: Different Browsers Give Different Results

I kind of gave up on Dissenter, and made Firefox my default browser. Everything works again like it should, except I haven't figured out how to get it to remember me after I have signed in yet. I'm working on it.

Thanks for the advice,

Don

The Gab Dissenter browser was rife with vulnerabilities and development was abandoned three years ago. I encourage you to use something that's actively supported.

We¡¯ve been discussing browsers in the CHAD group. Favourites seem to be Vivaldi and Brave, both cross-platform. I¡¯ve used Brave (on Mac and iPhone) for a while and apart from the odd site it works very well. Vivaldi has more features, possibly more than most need.

Save some effort, just go directly to Vivaldi (with it's built-in mail client in the case of the Windows version).

I¡¯m looking for some guidance. I decided to switch away from the Microsoft Edge browser because of their use of AI, and I¡¯m now using another browser called Dissenter that I have made my default browser. After adjusting some browser settings in Dissenter, it appeared I got every the way I like it in using Groups.io. After going through my group checking for functionality, I found some things do not work.

?

  1. Admin tab is the only tab not working.
  2. Home page Message History is missing. Message History displays using the Firefox browser, but each months totals do not link to messages in that month.
  3. Can open new topic message, but cannot enter any message text.
  4. Can view messages, but cannot use Reply or More.
  5. JPEG files in the Files section will not open unless downloaded to my computer first, but will open perfectly in the Photos section.
  6. Not all links on a links page work or display the same.

?

I¡¯ll do some more tweaking with this browser, but maybe I will end up using another browser.

There are a lot of possibilities:
-- Is this moderator on the reverification list? If so, it stands to reason she would receive two copies...one the original and one the bcc.
-- Were you unable to contact everyone with a single message and had to do it twice? If so, then this moderator would receive two bcc's.
-- If neither of the above scenarios apply then she may have a forwarder or filter of some kind set up.?

While it's also possible that something is broken within groups.io, we need to check these low-hanging fruit first. If you're really worried about this we can start with examining the message headers.

It sometimes happens that the first email received from your group arrived via one of your integrations and that automatically creates a contacts entry.?Have her check the contacts list in her email client and edit the entry corresponding to [email protected] as needed.
?
she's the only member getting emails from the group 3 and 4 days late.
There have been deliverability issues with some email providers lately (including Yahoo, if that's her posting at the bottom of your screenshot). It should resolve itself soon, but if she continues to have difficulty we won't be able to troubleshoot it without knowing who her provider is.

Moderator received two identical messages!

On Friday (15.03.24) I sent reminder messages to members who were on the Reverification list and bbc'd the Moderators for their info.
One Moderator has come back to me (another is away) saying she received two identical messages and wondered why. So do I!
Upon asking her various queations, including did she have two email addresses, she has advised me that she has but both arrived in one Inbox.
Does anyone have an idea what has caused this?

Re: Emailed Photos Album

I do like that concept of of pushing photos to the files section, as that allows for the sub-folder organization. One of my groups just underwent a files reorganization. There was hope we could do the same to the photos section. We had one album of some 200 photos in a album that a member downloaded all and consolidated that story in a single pdf file.

I can see the photo section then being locked from up? loading, but the attachments folder could still be visible and serve as pointers to the discussion messages.

I just wanted to highlight that there are two controls that may be utilized to manage storage area utilized by the emailed photos album.
Those are in the "Message Policies" setting:

These allow a resolution setting that also limits the space utilized. The second says what will happen if we're bumping against the storage limit..

Cheers,
Dave F.

It seems the logic behind an "Emailed Photos" album is that is where Photos attached to Messages are stored (not in Messages) - which would explain how they are only counted once against Storage limits.
No, the photos are stored attached to the messages. The Emailed Photos album is not a storage location like other albums, it's just a series of pointers to the photos that were in messages. That's why those photos are only counted once towards the storage limits of a group.

Emailed Photos can be viewed in that album, or by clicking on the thumbnail displayed with the message in the Messages archive.
As above, they are not in the album.

Why it would be desirable to be able to move photos from the "Emailed Photos" album
As the photos are not in the album itself, there is no concept of moving them from there.

To be able to have all photos of an Event in an Album titled with the event's name (and perhaps date) makes finding them easier
The way to achieve that is to create a dedicated album and upload photos to it.

Management of Photos would be much, much easier if they could be moved and organized (as Files can be).
I agree. The only thing is that real photo albums have a flat structure so you can't have one album inside another like you can have one folder inside another, and it's not as simple to move them around. You can of course update your Group Settings > Features > Files and allow photos to be stored in regular folders if that helps:

In which case, the photos are listed like this and clicking the link will typically download the image which you can then view:

However, moving Photos would change their links (as it does with Files) and I'm guessing that makes it awkward for Groups.io to keep them linked to the message they originally were attached to.
As before, the Emailed Photos album is not a real album, it's just a set of pointers to photos in messages.? If you remove a photo from a message and maybe store it in a real album, then the pointer disappears from the Emailed Photos album as there's nothing to point to in the message.

Andy
