Re: Downloading files

Jim,

If your aim is to give the users a way to download an already "pre-configured" folder with subfolders and the like, use a zipfile for that purpose.

Many thanks, Duane. I'll give it a try on Beta and see what Mark thinks of it.

That's the way to do it.? Right now, you'd have to have one big, multi-part question and have answers for every possible combination of answers.? Keeping track of multiple questions, each with multiple answers, could get very complicated, very quickly.? I don't know if that's something Mark would consider, but it can't hurt to ask.

The closest I can remember is for a group admin to export the Files area of the group, but that gets them all.? No way for members to do that.

Polls with multiple questions #polls #suggestion

I wished to post this request on Beta, but I thought to send it on GMF before, just in case I'm missing some essential information.
I saw that you can create polls with multiple answers, but not with multiple questions. The only option is to create as many separate polls.
I'd like to have the possibility to create a single poll including more than one question. I would be happy even with a limited number of questions allowed.
Is there any problem that I can't see?

I looked through the message archive and saw that in 2022 there was a desire expressed?about being able to download individual?folders from Files. Was this ever implemented? Perhaps in a beta trial?

Ideally I would like to keep all the attachments but reduce their size. Is a there a way to do this in bulk? Is there even a way of doing it manually while keeping attachments attached to their relevant post?

No to either, you can only delete them.?

Now if you have a legacy group with Files, you could upload the smaller replacement image there and edit the original message, delete the large attachment, and add a link to the smaller image on Files.? If not, you could recreate the message with the smaller attachment and send it in, then delete the original attachment but leave the original message and link to it, but it would look like you sent the message, I guess you could put some text in the replacement message to indicate it's a repost and link to the original message, a bit messy.

Either of these options has to be done one message at a time.

It's definitely NOT a Groups.io problem.? If you have a copy of the message forwarded to you, it should include all the headers.? That's where I'd start, trying to figure out who actually sent it.? You may never get to the bottom of it, but it's happened in other groups when someone got hold of a message/digest and they try to make people think its from the group/site.? The From: and To: both being wrong are sure signs of a 'bad guy'.

Members receiving scam/phish with digest and malicious attachment

Hi All

First thanks in advance for any help. I did a search of archived messages and did not find what I thought this might be.

I have had two members report to me they received a copy of our group Digest with a Phish message and malicious attachment. The sender is not a member of our group. The alleged receiver of the digest? is also not a member. The digest has been altered throughout.

We are a restricted group. I'm wondering if this is my group's issue or the members have been hacked. As I said, this is the second report. The first report had? similar name but different email address as sender, also not a member of our group.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks

If you have a co - owner or any moderators then any one of them could have done it for whatever reason.

Have you looked at your Activity log; changes of notification settings are one (or two depending on how you read it) of the options available.

Chris?

reduce storage size

Hi,

I am co-owner of a very small group doing cycle stuff. When I set up the group I didn't set a maximum size for attachments. Now several years later we are up to 80% of our 1gb allowance. Ideally I would like to keep all the attachments but reduce their size. Is a there a way to do this in bulk? Is there even a way of doing it manually while keeping attachments attached to their relevant post?

Thanks

Chris

Pending member notification setting changed #notifications

I¡¯ve had my pending member notifications set to ¡°email only¡± for a long time. This morning it was set to ¡°none.¡± I¡¯m pretty certain I didn¡¯t change it. Before I ask on Beta, can anyone think of a reason this would have happened without my intervention??

Many thanks,

I suggest you look at Subscription in the menu on GMF homepage (or another that you belong to). I don't see that your account was bouncing. I do see unsubscribe, resubscribe, and repeat, all done today.

Re: Thread Reply: @ sign being replaced by an = sign

Edited

I believe I have found the culprit in my particular situation.? I had a user who was getting the error "510: The group 'username=yahoo.com' does not exist"? every time she tried to reply to a group post.? This is what I found...

She uses a Samsung Android phone with the Samsung Email App.? It appears that this app does not use the "Reply-To: " field in the email header but uses the "From: " field instead when replying to a group post.?

Furthermore, If the message was sent from someone with a Yahoo email account, the "From: " field contains the funny "On behalf of" address (e.g. "username =yahoo.com at groups.io ").? If the message was sent from someone with a Gmail account, the "From: " field contains?the originator's Gmail address.??So, in the case of replying to a Yahoo sent message the user gets the "510: The group 'username=yahoo.com' does not exist".? In the case of a Gmail sent message, the reply goes directly to the originator, but totally bypasses groups.io.

I instructed my user on how to use the reply links which are within the message.? She is also going to switch to the Yahoo Email App, which seems to correctly grab the "Reply-To:" address.? Perhaps others who have Samsung phones can test this to confirm.? Also, the iphone Samsung app would need to be checked, but I don't have one of those.

Re: RSS Feeds and limiting to members of Group only?

Could it be that your problem person is still a member under a different account with a different email address?

So a bit of background. The original creator of the group that also was moderator had a falling out and did end up transferring the control of the group to the other Moderators. He has quit the Groups.io completely also and is no longer a member of the organization that is using the group for members only communications.?

But he is still able to read the posts and has copied content and photos without permission to use elsewhere.?

The only thing I can figure is the Groups Archive settings are allowing content to be able to be subscribed to by RSS feed. So a new posting will then be sent to any RSS feed Subscribers. The Group obviously since it is private, does not want anyone not approved from reading the content.?

So what would the exact settings be to change the archiving or at least also make it completely private or limit it to the approved members only?

Look on the home page of your group.? There's a section for addresses to use for various things.

About Help - there are 2 main documents - one for owners and one for members. It is sometimes tricky to figure out which one. But to your question: ?the help page explains how to do search:

- View the manual as a single page . Then you can use the Find feature in your web browser to search the entire owners manual.
- View a PDF version of the manual. Then you can use the Find feature in your PDF reader to search the entire file.
Tip: In most browsers and PDF readers, you can press Ctrl+F on Windows or Command+F on Mac to access the Find feature.

I normally click on "single page" and use my browser Edit / Find (in Safari).

About inviting people to join your group:
Here's the Help page for using Invite.
/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/inviting-people-to-join-a-group?single=true

Take the time to edit your Invite Notice (in Admin, Settings, Notices) and use your toolbar to highlight your own content to personalize it. Save it for future use and activate it. Note that you can't remove what is there (the boilerplate) which is required at least in some jurisdictions. But by spaces, formats, bolding and italics, colour, you can get a pretty good invitation.

Then use Invite in your Admin menu.?
