Re: Database Row Ownership
#wiki
Have a look at the recent conversation at /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/11459604? I think it will cover most of your questions.

Re: Groups Home - Overview of groups and recent messages
You can see the groups you're subscribed to at / after you've signed in.? To see the recent posts, you can select All on the left menu there to be taken to /topics? It doesn't show the most recent snippets though.? That's been requested before, but I don't see it mentioned on the TODO list, https://trello.com/b/qu3WgzVq/beta

Database Row Ownership
#wiki
Steve Moss
Hi ya,
Thinking about taking our roster and converting from excel to a .io database table.? I noticed one feature of allowing users to create rows, but edit the rows they create. That's perfect for us.? BUT I need to be able to create a row for our member and assign him as the row owner.? Can this be done.? I don't want our admin to have to manage all the?phone number/address changes, but also don't want one user to be able to change the info for another.? Kind of related could it be possible later to make some columns editable by the row owner and others only by the moderators??? Thanks, Steve |

This brings up a concern I have. I have a small group here that is functioning well, and am on the edge of moving a larger one. But I'm reading about the (understandably) longer wait times and how Mark is "the" one who has to do so much. But what happens when the load doubles or triples? Is there a backup staff for when the backlog gets ridiculously long? It seems way too much to depend on only one person - is that literally the case? If we move here to escape the ridiculous amount of down time at Yahoo Groups, will we run into the same thing as groups.io growth explodes? (BTW, I'm old enough to have used egroups way back when.... even then we were sad when Yahoo took it over.)

Groups Home - Overview of groups and recent messages
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, I am a long-term user/moderator/owner of Yahoo! Groups (and eGroups before that) and have just transferred one of my largest groups (nearly 1,500 members and 230,000 message). One of my users has pointed out that the quite useful overview of groups and messages called "Groups Home" does not seem to be available in groups.io. This view is easily seen by looking at this link if you still have an active registration with Yahoo! Groups :- You could always reach this by clicking on "Groups Home" at the top of the list of groups in the left-hand column. In groups.io, it could be the view, you get when you click on "Your Groups", or an item in the drop down list called "Groups Home".? It was useful for those that were members of only a few groups, some with low activity, and you could quickly check to see if there was any recent activity. If I have missed a link that gets me the equivalent overview in groups.io, please let me know.

Re: New Member message when joining a group
It's not currently available, but is on the TODO list, https://trello.com/c/iSkDckWb/120-request-custom-information-when-joining-track-information-per-subscriber
It was brought up again on beta@ a couple of days ago because of the many questions about it here, so Mark is certainly aware of the importance to some people.? A simplified version may be added, Duane -- Help: /static/help GMF's Wiki: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Search button at the top of Messages list |
saving updates to calendar
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯m apparently doing something wrong. If I enter a recurring calendar event, then go back and edit it and use the UPDATE ALL option, only the event I am updating gets updated. Any suggestions? ? Thanks! ? Bob |
Re: re delayed message
Southenders Admin
This is similar to what happened to me. Except I was asked to moderate the post. I did moderate it, but it did not show up for days.?
I went over my email settings and changed my personal settings to default. They had been set to override. Since then, two messages that I wrote before the change are still in the ether. I'm going to unite the problem unless it happens again. -- Norm |
New Member message when joining a group
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOne thing I liked about Yahoo groups was that when someone joined, they were asked to type a little message as to why they wanted to join.? Then when you went to approve members, you would see their message and this would give you some reassurance it wasn't a spammer.? This saved me from getting hundreds of spammers joining one of my larger groups. ? I'm not seeing where we can turn on such a feature, unless I am missing something.? Do any of you know if we have such a feature at groups.io ? Scott Myers |

Thank you for this important information, Sharon! I didn't know about the group name change. Re: Wiki - Status Badges on the Members List
Hi Nancy,
Ok, I've substantially fleshed it in, and changed its title to Status Badges on the Members List. I've also added a link to it in the Best Practices for Group Management section of the wiki home page. Everyone is encouraged to proof-read it to be sure I haven't messed up the descriptions or forgotten something of importance. It would be great if it were checked for consistency in fact and terminology with the Groups.io Help page and with messages about these badges both here in GMF and in beta. applescript to parse csv display name into 2 fields?
Mac user here.
I manage a 100+ member group. We have monthly meetings and I use the
members
"download" option to generate a sign in sheet for the meetings.
We require members to use their real first and last names as their
Display Name. The problem
is, this is one field and when I load the csv file into numbers it puts the first and last name in one field. I
can then only sort by first name. This is causing chaos at our sign in tables!!!
Here is a sample of the csv file (I've bolded what I want to change)
"Email","Display Name","Username","Joined","Status(0=Normal,1=Pending,2=Banned)","Post
Status(0=Normal,1=Moderated,2=NotAllowed)","Email
Delivery(0=Single,1=Digest,2=Special,3=None)","Message Selection(0=All,1=Follow Only,2=Follow Only
And First)","Auto Follow Replies","Mod Status(0=None,1=Moderator,2=Owner)","User Status(0=Not
Confirmed,1=Confirmed,2=Inactive,3=Bouncing,4=Bounced)"
If I can get the csv file to look like this, I can sort by last name in numbers:
"Email","Display Name","Username","Joined","Status(0=Normal,1=Pending,2=Banned)","Post
Status(0=Normal,1=Moderated,2=NotAllowed)","Email
Delivery(0=Single,1=Digest,2=Special,3=None)","Message Selection(0=All,1=Follow Only,2=Follow Only
And First)","Auto Follow Replies","Mod Status(0=None,1=Moderator,2=Owner)","User Status(0=Not
Confirmed,1=Confirmed,2=Inactive,3=Bouncing,4=Bounced)"
I know how to fix this. Write a script to do the following:
ignore the first row.
for every subsequent row change all spaces to "," .
BUT, I've never written a script! I've poked around and figured our it will be in AppleScript using the Script
Editor. I've found some tutorials (did an easy one) and think with time (lot's of time!) I could work it out
BUT if someone has already done this could you share your code with me?
Regards, Gina

Re: a new member and some help please
Jackiep,
There are two imperative reasons why I want NoMail setting.
1/.. When I go on leave,
2/.. When I view my mail on line
Having a NoMail setting is an essential feature.
?
OK,
Tony

Re: Who Can View And Modify Databases
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDuane, ? Having a new owner enter a new row is an option worth thinking about, so I will. ? I¡¯m going have that same problems with the old member¡¯s photos too¡I can see there¡¯s going to be a lot of downloading/uploading going on. ? ? Don ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Duane ? Unfortunately, there's no way to assign ownership to a row, other than having the member enter it themselves with the 'Moderators, the Table Owner, and the Row Owner' choice set.? That wouldn't work later when another member bought the boat though.? One way to work around that would be to have the new owner enter a new row, then you could delete the old one.? As you mentioned, it might be simpler for you to coordinate it all. ;>) |

Re: Two Levels of moderation
Duane,
This is a bit misleading because it doesn't generate a pendingBut it does generate "Subscription Approval Needed" notices to the moderators of the primary group. I received no notifications relating to the subgroup. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Follow up:? If someone that's not a member of the main group finds the subgroup and clicks on the Join button, they'll see the message, "You cannot subscribe to this subgroup until your subscription to the parent group is approved."? This is a bit misleading because it doesn't generate a pending subscription in the main group.? (I'll report this to support.)
