Re: Approve account
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you for the prompt reply. ? Yes I created a new group. I am the owner. I cannot send invitations to join the group. I get the following banner message across the top of the invite page under the admin heading. ¡°This group has not yet been approved. Once it has been approved, you will be able to post to it. ? I was able to upgrade the 1 month premium service. I could then direct add members. I added two email addresses, one my wife and one a friend. They both accepted and then they sent two test messages each to the group. They are listed as members and are flagged that they need to have two posts moderated before they can freely post to the group. I have sent two messages. When I login to the group there are no messages at all and nothing in the Pending section. ? I have not changed any preferences as I am assuming that at least in the beginning, the default setting should be OK to use. ? I hope this is a little clearer explanation of my situation. ? Rich ? Still problems with deivery to icloud email addresses
I have a member who is still not getting her Daily Digest to her icloud.com emai address.
The details on her bounce probe say
She writes "I keep getting in my Junk box a link to activate this problem? from the Groups io team". The member concerned is an elderly lady who is very computer shy and completely non-computer savvy. She is clearly uncertain as to whether it is safe to click this link which ended up in her Junk email box. Any help/advice would be reatly appreciated. Thanks. Margaret in Leeds, UK |

Approve account
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý
Hi,?
Need some help. It's been over a week since I have created an account. It has not been approved yet. I did a merge between two email addresses but that went thru ok. I waited 7 days and paid premium for 1 month. I can't get any support. I can't invite members.
I direct added a couple of people but their messages don't show up. I have been able to get into the account and add our group descriptions and a picture. I would hate to delete and start over and loose my one month premium payment. I don't know if an approval
email got missed but I've gone over both email accounts and can't find anything. Thanks for any advise.

Message with 14,989 blank pages
Hi - our group had a strange message posted to the group via web.
The message was a reply with 3 layers of untrimmed replies. When you view the message either on web or in your emails, it appears to go on to infinity with blank space. So I printed the page to a PDF, which is how I found out it was 14,989 pages long. Anyone who reads the message on web, cannot proceed to the next message because it is so far down the page. I'm not sure how this happened. When I went and looked at the source for the last shown quoted text in the corrupted message the header seemed strange. Mainly these two lines. References: <[email protected]> In©\Reply©\To: <[email protected]> That is not that persons normal Ref and Reply-To info. I can go and edit the message that is corrupted, but not sure if I need to also report this to support. Sara |

While Admin > Subgroups does show who is/is not a member of subgroups, it does not provide a download facility, which I think desirable. But perhaps the information should be included in the main members list download. Jeremy |

To clarify, are you saying run a script to cross-check the two spreadsheets?Yes although it wouldn't have to be a written by you script per se, it could also be done visually in Excel by linking the two spreadsheets using the user_id field, that's the unique id for a groups.io account.? You can then specify to give you all the records which exist in both the main and subgroup and have the same user_id. Cheers, Christos |
Re: who's not in a subgroup?
Ideally, a membership list would include all the subgroups the main group's members are part of. I'm gonna suggest this to the beat group
That¡¯s already a feature, at least in my Legacy main group: Under ¡°Admin¡±, click on ¡°Subgroups¡± and you¡¯ll see the members¡¯ list with a column for subgroup. It will be checked for subgroup members.-- ____________ Jeannette B. |

MB| The web browser said unable to resolve DNS. | I'm glad I wasn't alone on that weird fault. The two machines that serve DNS records for Groups.io came under attack around midnight (from Sun 23 to Mon 24) Pacific Time. The complete explanation: -----Original Message-----
From: Mark Fletcher Sent: Monday, July 24, 2023 11:45 To: [email protected] Subject: [beta] Delivery issues with Gmail and others #outage -------------------------------------------------------------- Hi All, Around midnight last night Pacific time, the two machines that serve DNS records for Groups.io came under attack. DNS is the thing that takes a domain name, like 'groups.io', and tells you what machine on the Internet corresponds to it. When someone attacks a DNS server, the goal is to make it so that nobody can reach the associated website. To blunt the attack, I upgraded both machines and also set some rules that would automatically block traffic from the attackers. In all, about 25k machines were used to send bogus requests to the servers, with something over 1M requests per second at peak. Traffic came back to normal levels and I went back to bed. Unfortunately, the automatic blocking snared Gmail, Comcast, and perhaps others, such that they decided that we didn't have valid DNS records and blocked email from us. This lasted from around 3am Pacific Time until around 6:30am Pacific Time. Users who had email blocked will not be put on bouncing status because of this. I sincerely apologize for this. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Mark ________________________________ . |
Re: Google not permitting messages from our Group
Thank you everybody for your valued advice which I have passed on to the recipient whose ISP (gmail) refused a message.? Unfortunately, he is not particularly IT minded so we'll see.
Incidentally, I sent the same message and its attachment to another member who has a Gmail account and it was successfully received so it looks as if it is down to an IT literate friend to help our man! |
Re: When groups.io is down....
Ah, I'm glad you posted this.
Yesterday the 24th, the app suddenly stopped working and produced "web page is not available". I tried my tablet and then my desktop via the web browser - all down. I had to nip out and while out I got a app notification. So I thought it was back on. Got home and it wasn't working, tried many things and proved this. Working fine via 4G (UK Vodafone & EE) Not working via DSL. (UK Openreach - Murphx) I tried changing DNS provider to no avail. I rang my ISP tech and it worked for him. I tried another router and eliminated my existing home network, still no joy. My ISP said he didn't know what to suggest other than local cabinet issues. A few hours later and still no joy it just started working having done nothing and has been stable since. Started around 9am UTC and restored sometime around 3pm UTC. The web browser said unable to resolve DNS. I'm glad I wasn't alone on that weird fault. |
