When the first message is sent, the person receiving will have the email address of the sender.? If the receiver responds, it will go to the original sender, so then they'd both have each others email addresses and wouldn't need to go through Groups.io.? If the receiver chooses not to respond, then it seems rather spammy to send them more than one more message.

BTW, it sometimes helps to remember that anything any member can do will be in the Members Manual, while things that only an admin can do will be in the Owners Manual.

Peter -- It's a spam mitigation feature, and thus unlikely to ever be configurable. If someone wants to DM you more than twice a day you'll have to share your email address with them.

Of course, subscribers can also contact group admins via the +owner address.

One of our members received the message below when they tried to send a third DM to me in a single day. I've looked in the forum Admin panel but can't find a setting that appears to change this.

Do I have control over the number of DMs that can be sent each day and, if so, how can I change it?

Thank you to everyone that responded! ?I'm by no means newbie at this, but in my old age have gotten somewhat paranoid and legal shy.
Not only have I been taking care of the "list" but I am on my second tenure on the BoD of my HOA. ?We're going back almost 20 years. ? The world is changing and in this arena, not for the better. ?I wish we had 2FA for logins, none that I could find. ?That would make me feel a LOT more comfortable. ?That and some sort of notification if a member has too many password tries and force a reset with moderator notification.

Yes, there has been a history of copyright infringement by bad actors, resulting in DMCA takedown requests. Such things give groups.io a bad reputation. As if that wasn't sufficient, there are other reasons...a main one being an accumulation of Basic groups that send lots of large attachments (thus taking up the lion's share of email server resources) while contributing nothing to the bottom line.

See the last bullet at?/helpcenter/faq/1/group-owner-moderator-faq/q-what-types-of-groups-are-not?and also the link Duane gave you where this new policy was announced.

Well said, Jack, and I agree 100% on both points. Our guidelines state that folks should take back-and-forth arguments off-list, and I’ve intervened a number of times to enforce that.?

My experience is that most group members prefer a stricter moderator.

Also, it is worth while to keep in mind that people rarely care who is in the right in an on-line arguement. They just want it to stop. Members of a group, especially the moderator, should realize that they can't get anywhere by insisting they've been wronged.

These 2 points are related. As a moderator, you should just do what you have to do with as little drama as possible.

I didn't realize until you posted as a bug on beta, but if it were me, I'd just remove the " as it is 100 days since it was created" part, so it would apply to all locked topics.

This individual is likely breaking state law as well as federal law in doing so. Perhaps your local police can help get a restraining order and perhaps file charges. He has no First Amendment rights "in your house". Your group, your rules, your house. Some folks get on HOA boards to "control the world". Ban him immediately.
