Christos detailed how to set this data initially.? The Extra Member Data fields are new and the whole set up is not fully developed just yet. There are ongoing discussions about how this feature would be used in subgroups so as yet, the extra data is only available in a main group. Personally, I would like to see fields and values defined in the main group propagate to subgroups in the same way that member colours do. The /updatemember endpoint in the API has been updated to expose the new fields but I suspect, could be subject to change as this feature is developed further.

Andy

Re: Extra Member Data

You can only add info if you have a paid group, free groups only display that data (if there already, to account for downgrades).

If you do have a paid group, you need to first define what the extra data fields are, go to Admin->Settings->Default Sub Settings and make sure to hit Save on the bottom of the page.? You can then edit that data per member.

Cheers,
Christos

Since this is Premium and Enterprise feature only, I can't test it, but here are instructions from Help:

If the group is private and/or by invitation only, I don't see a big problem making the members list available.? If it were me, I'd create a poll to ask the members which they prefer.? It probably wouldn't be truly representative if folks aren't willing to log in to vote, but it might give you an idea.? Actually, just sending a message to everyone to ask their opinion might be better since they could reply without logging in.? They should remember that their email address is visible to anyone that gets one of their posts, so not really a big deal.

Allowing members to see each others email addresses

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I am a co-owner of a small group (75 people) of high school classmates.? We are discussing what our policy should be for making email addresses visible to the group.? I cannot find anything in the terms that address this issue, but I see that groups.io is very careful with this information and by design it is hard to make it visible.? Few of our members access the website, or even know it exists, so we handle most things via email.? At one extreme we would send out a contact list with everyone¡¯s email addresses, at the other extreme we would have a middleman to connect people (getting permission from both ends).? Any thoughts on this?

Once the upload button is clicked, a rotating circle appears up on the tab on the browser's tab bar for the open page on which I'm specifying the upload.? It continues rotating until, about 15-30 minutes later, I get the blank .../editfiles page, just as Duane reported he was experiencing, too.

Anyway, glad it worked for you.? Even if it's a goofy network connectivity/throttling issue, there would still seem to be opportunity to enhance the programming of the upload feature to provide the user better monitoring of what's going on, such as Google Drive does.

OK, I've now posted this bug report to [email protected].? As suggested in another message in this thread, it may be best for you to tack your report on to mine.

Thanks again to everybody who's been helping to try to figure this out.

Re: Inviting people to become members

Yes, go to /helpcenter/ownersmanual then on the left click on "Inviting people to join a group".? (you can bookmark the manual link or get to it when online by clicking on the Help link at the right of the top blue bar)

TO get there, click on Admin -> Invite.

The Owners Manual has all the information needed, specifically the section on inviting people.

I would also include the browser used, the internet provider, and anything else
that might be even remotely associated with the problem.

It could be that the dialog is first having to read the entire file just to render a thumbnail image.

Re: Can't upload large file

One of the difficulties in troubleshooting this kind of problem is it may not be entirely a groups.io issue. It probably depends on the upload speed of your connection in addition to how busy the groups.io server is. Posting the results of an upload and download speed test in the problem description may help in understanding the issue.
Best, Marv

Join this group:

if you don't want to get all messages individually, you can get the digest or no
mail, and read messages on the group site. However you set it up, post a new
message and your subject line should be something like:

#bug unable to upload large files

in the body text of the message, explain the problem, what you do to experience
the problem, what you expect to happen, what actually happens.

That's all. The hashtag "#bug" makes it a bug report and discussion topic.

I don't know what you mean by "endlessly spin." In Chrome, I'm not seeing any busy indicator at all.

I used the Browse button to select the file instead of drag-and-drop. I clicked the Add button ONCE and walked away.

When I came back about three minutes later, it had been uploaded.

Hope this helps,

Thanks, Bruce.? I'll give it another try, but, still, it's clear there's something wrong with this aspect of the system, and even if there really were some network congestion occasionally preventing successful uploads, there would seem to be opportunities here to improve the system's programming in how it deals with that sort of a situation (for example, provide an upload meter bar, as Google Drive does) rather than just endlessly "spin" or arrive at a totally blank .../editfiles page.
