True! Unless other reply options are not permitted in Settings.

If it is ticked, then the footers only have Reply to Group or View/Reply online.

Odd reply-to-sender behavior #replytosender #question

I recently used my mail client to "Reply To Sender" (my list is set to reply to Group by default), and was surprised to have it bounce. It turned out the From address was <john@...> rather than <john@...>. Here's what the relevant message headers looked like:

From: "John Smith via groups.io" <john@...>
To: [email protected]
Reply-To: [email protected]
Sender: [email protected]
Usually, my list gives the real email address in the From header, looking like this (note the lack of "via" as well):

From: "Jane Doe" <jane@...>
Does anyone know what causes this and how I can prevent it? I think it's at least consistent per-sender... could it be that this happens when people use the web interface or something?

Bob -- You can provide a link to it, but you cannot embed it...groups.io strips the <video> tag from html emails.

Blocked? Are you sure you don't mean "Bouncing", because that is what a red (or blue) B means. Which colour it is depends on whether Groups.io has determined that the Bounce is "permanent" or not.

And no; other then send the members concerned a Bounce Probe there is nothing you can do about it. Have a look at their Email Delivery Histories.

Are you sure the red B says blocked? Probably bounced??
I assume this is in the Members list in Admin?

It's not like 'subgroups'
You can do something with their display name. See?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-members/adding-or-updating-members-display-names

You could also create a database, file, or wiki.

Is there a way to 'identify' or 'mark' members by class or group? #customize

I manage a group of firefighters. It all started out as 'retiree's only'. But then we recognized that some of our retiree's have died and it's actually the retiree spouse (or significant other) who is actively the current member. And then re figured out that the current, active firefighters will become retiree's, but if we 'capture them' before they retire, they are already on our rolls - if we don't, and they don't seek us out, they could be 'lost.' And then there are 'friends of the family' (with the fire service as a whole really the family) - they would be associated who have been interactive with us in one form or another for entire careers.

I don't see anything or any way in the Owners Manual to 'identify' anyone differently than anyone else - like a certain color for their listing, or a symbol - not unlike the different Notices can be marked.
Aside from coming up with some cumbersome appendage (member name.ret; member.name.active; member.name.spouse (or survivor); member.name.assoc) does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

It's not like 'subgroups' because, while we could do some of that, they are all part of the main group. I'm just looking to clearly differentiate them so others would know where they fit.

Thanks for looking and considering.

Re: Missing "Reply to Sender" link in email text footers? #footer #footers #replytosender

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

>>> In that case I don't see what the problem is. If you want to reply to an individual email, you click "reply" in your e-mail-interface-thingy. What would you need a link for?

It probably is because you're on digest and the footers are probably different there, but in the individual messages setting, if the group ReplyTo setting is set to the group (as the default is), if you click on the email client's Reply button you'll reply to the group, so in order to be able to easily reply to the sender from an email client, you can go to the message footers and click an included "Reply To Sender" link.? But that link though is only there on the HTML version of the footers, not the plain text only, and that's what started all of this.

Look at the attached to see the difference in HTML vs PlainText footers an individual messages user gets in their email client, which depends on group message formatting settings.

Yes, it is a legacy basic group, and I want to re-purpose it. I just haven't
decided on which purpose yet.

I cleaned out the members list with a simple mass removal after sending out a
message. Most people already had moved to the other group. I forgot about it
until someone joined and asked a question. That reminded me it was still there
and that I should do something.

I just tried it in a test group and it worked fine, feel free to email me offlist what you tried and I can try it and see what happens.

Are you copying and pasting when you're trying this?? Maybe some character like a TAB gets pasted along the text, or possibly extra spaces or something?? Have you tried something simple instead of strange, like maybe just adding 1234xyz at the end of the current name (making sure it's not overly long)

By this I assume you want to remove everyone but you and possibly 1-2 other folks from the old group.? No trick to it really, same thing you do for any group, live or not, you just go to Admin->Members and start selecting folks, clicking on Actions,? and "Remove".?

You can streamline the process by first going to your main account settings first (upper right) and set ItemsPerPage in Preferences to 200.? Then open the memberlist and check the SelectAll checkbox to select everyone in the screen, then scan the list first to uncheck the folks you want to keep, then Actions-Remove.? Rinse and repeat until done.? Then go back and reset ItemPerPage to what you had before, don't leave it at 200 because it makes page loading slower for you and probably cause more overhead per page loading (not sure on this last one though)? I personally use 50 for everyday reading/browsing and switch to 100 or 200 for admin work.

Cheers,
Christos

Want to rename a group

I tried a few times to rename a group but failed.

I got an "invalid" address for the group even when I picked a strange temporary
address.

Can someone point me to the correct part of the user guide on how to do this? I
also understand doing this can be tricky to get it to work.

The group is no longer needed because it has been replaced by another one. We
basically directed all members to join the bigger group. For now, I took it off
the public listing of groups and made it announcement only.

I also want to know how to "clean out" the membership list so we don't have any.
Any tips beyond the users guide would be appreciated.
