Re: How to Temporarily Disable Message Posting

I have some users that have posted material that may not be appropriate.? So I stopped posting to give me time to review it and make a decision on how to proceed.? Another question:? Is it possible to temporarily make a message thread "hidden" to users without deleting?? I searched the owner manual without luck.

Re: How to Temporarily Disable Message Posting

Thank you so much!? I have changed to announcement mode.

Note this assumes that no member has been given permission to override the group default! As long as members have their posting permission set to:
? ? ? ? ?> ? Use Group Moderation Setting
rather than to:
? ? ? ? ?> ? Override: not moderated
then all will be well if you change the group?Message Moderation to "All messages are moderated" .

There are a couple of ways that would do that:
1)? Under Spam Control, change the group setting to Announcement-Only Group.? Only owner/mods can post.? Messages via email are rejected and the Reply button is removed online.
2)? Again, under Spam Control, change the Message Moderation to "All messages are moderated".? This would cause all messages to go to the moderation queue, so you'd have to deal with them.

Try this:

If you export the Files area of the source group, all the files in that folder should be intact and together (?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/exporting-or-downloading-your-group-s-data/exporting-your-group-s-message-archive-and?).

You can then upload the resulting folder to the destination group in one go. You don't have to upload each file one at a time.?/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/working-with-files/uploading-files-and-folders?

Please note that file and folder metadata (description, ownership, date/timestamps, etc) will not be retained.

There is no function to copy files from one group to another. You can't even do it across subgroups.

Re: copy folders in files area to different group files area

How do I copy folders that are in the files area of one group to the files area of another group? In other words, I want to copy several files that are in a folder to a different group files area. Other than copying one at a time from a download.
Please don't tell me to read the manual. I have done a search and not found the answer. We are swamped here with rescue activities. == baxter, llama /alpaca rescue, small group

Re: File Reorganization - Folder Upload with *.json?

Thanks for the reply and advice Bruce!

I uploaded files manually, it was a slog at ~100 files, but went smoothly. I wish the upload Folder feature honored folder structure¡ alas, it still saved on button clicks.

Admin > Export is the backup feature. There is no corresponding restore feature.

It's possible to delete and reorganize files using the web interface. I recommend you use that instead.

/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/working-with-files/updating-files-and-folders?

If I use the upload folder button and retain filename.ext.json, will these file fields automatically be retained?
No. The json file is just another file in the upload. It will not repopulate the metadata of other files.

None of them had ¡°Uploaded By,¡± is there any way to also apply this field on upload?
Short of having the original person do the upload, no.

There is a feature that allows you (as group Owner) to reassign ownership of Photos. There is is no corresponding function for Files.

Re: File Reorganization - Folder Upload with *.json?

Uploading filename.ext.json alongside filename.ext does not update the description field. Interested in any ideas here.

Why? See Bruce's suggestion earlier about raising the detail of the problem either here (GMF) or on Group Help.

Re: Is Groups.io Support On Vacation

I have been a paid group owner for a few years now, just before the great?exodus from Y Groups. I found some information relating to the problem I am trying to solve, but I thought support might be able to fix it or explain it to me better how to resolve it. Only one member is having this problem that I know of, so I guess we will keep trying to solve it on our own.

Re: Problem receiving io group mail

Hi folks,

Well, looks like my mail is coming back in and today I have received well over 200 mails from today/yesterday depending on their originating countries.- so if you have iiNet as your ISP then I suggest that you do this:

I did speak with my IT Professional and he said that I should and so I pass this on for you to help with your problems:

1) Contact iiNet Support

2) Inform them that you are not receiving any emails from the domain @groups.io

3) Have them to check with their mail server filter to not block the domain @groups.io in your mail account?

4) Get them to add @groups.io as safe sender in your iinet mailbox janetb@...

I had not received any emails from the domain @groups.io since?
25 January.? If you are speaking with their support personnel don't take their word for it if they say it's not an iiNet problem but send them an email to support@...?telling them what the problem is and giving them the above information.? I did also tell them that?I had done some digging of my own, reading up on the Group Managers Forum in Groups.io and that it appears that all iiNet customers utilising the domain @groups.io have been locked out and asked them to do the following:

?

Firstly, check with your mail server filter to not block the domain @groups.io in both my account and all other accounts which use that domain or do I have to get them to write to you (good luck with the thousands of mails you will have to cope with ?).

?

Once that has been unblocked please add @groups.io as a safe sender in my iiNet mailbox for my email address [insert your email address here].

Hope this helps anyone who is having trouble.

Regards,?
Janet

Linda -- First off, make sure you are using the HTML editor. The HTML editor should have an assortment of formatting icons in the taskbar at the top (for bold, italic, bulleted list, etc).

Secondly, is this something you plan to send on a regular basis? If so, you might have more luck by writing it up as a Member Notice of some kind, instead of a Word document (see?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-member-notices).?

I also strongly support the previous suggestion that you simply save it to a PDF and send it as an attachment.

All that aside, back to your question...

With simpler documents, I frankly haven't had too much difficulty opening the file in Word and doing cut-and-paste from that into the editor. But the MS-Word format is proprietary; there is no such thing as a "Word format for email." If your document contains constructs that can't be easily rendered in HTML, the online editor (and your own email client, for that matter) are both likely to struggle to handle it.

You might have more luck by first saving the document as HTML directly to your desktop (File->Save As->Web page, filtered). Then open that in a second browser tab and cut-and-paste it into the editor from that.

All told, if you expect the document to look exactly the same in email as it does in Word then I have to say that's very unlikely to happen. If you could provide a copy of the file (or a similar one) it might help us to help you further.

Bruce

Have you checked the activity log to see if someone deleted them?? Also make sure that you haven't changed your display preference to fewer items per page.

This is a user-to-user group, so if it's a site problem (which is unlikely), we can't do anything.
