Are you seeing ALL of your subgroups?? If you have too many, they'll be off the right side of the page.? Is that person a member of any of the subgroups that are visible on the page?? BTW, I see at least 7 people that aren't members of any of the shown subgroups.

Admin>Subgroups odd behavior

hey there group,
I'm doing some maintenance by using the Subgroups tab under Admin (image)

I'm deleting members who are NOT affiliated with a subgroup (classroom) as they are families no longer at the school.?

Here's my curiosity, I found an email visible in this matrix with NO subgroups checked HOWEVER when I click on the member to view their profile under subgroups two subgroups pop up and they ARE in fact members of these subgroups.

WHY is the email address part of a subgroup but NOT showing up with a box checked in the above subgroups matrix??

Re: New Subgroup - Admin Question

You need to define?an owner but it doesn't need to be someone who is an owner in the main group. You can also define additional owners or moderators, and they also do not need to be owners or moderators in the main group.

Owners (and mods with permissions) of the main group have implied ownership of subgroups.? They can make any changes, if needed, but won't be members of the subgroup unless they join or are added.? Don't forget that adding a subgroup will also change some things in the main group.? New Subgroup - Admin Question

I need to create a subgroup of our main group (full membership of a club) for the first time. ?This will be a subgroup for the Board of Directors of our club. I¡¯ve been asked is to set it up as ¡°subgroup listed in parent group, messages viewable by subgroup members only¡±. ?My question is¡.do I need to add the admins to this subgroup as well in case they need to help with anything? ?Or will admins automatically have access? ?

Since this is my first time adding a subgroup¡..any advice or help is welcomed. ?

Informed on another list (gen-listowners) that Indiana@ 's listowner is AWOL (report from one of 4 Facebook groups for Indiana genealogy).

You said in your original post that you are owner of some. Check those to see what's happening.

The missing owner issue is related - since you can't use the owner/moderator tools, but it is also a separate problem. There have been many discussions here about having a second owner just in case something happens to the owner.?

I'm not aware that you can disable that but you can set it so that it just deletes old attachments if your storage limit is reached.? See your group Settings > Message Policies and look at the bottom of the section for:

The Owner's Manual also gives guidance about managing your storage.

Re: Batch delete photos?

Hi Claire

As was discussed in the last week in this group, there is no batch delete available, its one by one, however you can set your group to delete the oldest attachments when you get near your limit

Admin > Settings > Message Policies > Storage Limit Reached = Delete Old Attachments

You can either Allow, Bounce, Strip or Moderate attachments but do not see a way of allowing attachments without saving them

Erin, does the other owner see any Messages in the Messages section?? How about other members of the group? When they login on the groups.io website and go to the group, do they see any Messages in that section?

There should be a setting where you can disable all attachments.

Roger -- Well, kinda. It's actually band-aid (or a fall-back measure, if you will) on the fact that there's really no way to achieve this objective via software.

Those setting changes being,

Spam Control > Message Moderating > All messages moderated
Correct.

But, I can not find an option to "allow new messages only to post." Where?
There is no such setting. You will have to moderate everything.

Even if such a setting existed, there's nothing to keep someone from just changing the subject line by a word or two, thus starting a new topic and subverting your efforts.

I note that I have set Message Policies > Reply To set to Sender.
That is the intent of the reply-to setting, and it should help...in principle. But frankly, the only way to truly ensure your "reply to sender only" policy is followed is to moderate every post and reject those which are non-compliant.

Bruce

Valorie,

I want to be sure that I get this right and not mess things up for 560 subscribers! If I understand correctly, the settings changes you suggest will prevent subscribers from replying to the whole list and only to the original sender? Those setting changes being,

Spam Control > Message Moderating > All messages moderated

But, I can not find an option to"allow new messages only to post." Where?

I note that I have set Message Policies > Reply To set to Sender.

Thanks for the tips.
