Re: Approve and unmoderate sender not working with Facebook #integration

The posts do arrive with a hashtag, yes. I have the group set for Only Moderators Can Create Hashtags, so the #facebook hashtag was indeed set to Moderated. Thank you for the solution (and for your moderation of my questions). ~ Holly

Re: Google Sites Wiki

For this, your best bet would be to contact [email protected] to see what Mark says.? I suspect not, but don't know for sure.

Re: Approve and unmoderate sender not working with Facebook #integration

Do you have a hashtag assigned to the FB posts?? If so, check to make sure you don't have it set to Moderated.? That's the only thing I can think of that might create your situation.

Google Sites Wiki

We have a 1 MB wiki on Google sites that is 99% full and we would like to transfer it to Groups.io. There are fewer organizational tools but I figured out a naming structure that will keep information in order.

The issue is can Groups.io transfer the GoogleSite to Groups.io?

Approve and unmoderate sender not working with Facebook #integration

I receive a moderation request every time our Facebook page posts to my group, even though I have checked "Approve and unmoderate sender." Is there a way to white list the author,?noreply(at)groups(dot)io or some other fix?

Re: Groups.io Digests and Thunderbird

Jim,

It does not happen with mine (Forte Agent 8.x). Agent is used more for
newsgroups than email but it has a great email client. It's not free,
though. It's also not as full featured as T-bird in some ways but it
makes up for it in security and has a great scripting language for
message routing if you really want control over that process.

Re: Message on spoofing?

Jeremy,

I have a new group that ha a member receiving the following return
when he posts, either text or phots, to the group:
I assume you mean when he posts a message, whether it contains only text or has photos. Because I don't think he'd get any return just from uploading a photo on site.

How do I stop this message? He¡¯s using an email address from his own
domain.
I don't think you can do anything about it, it is something between him and the service he's using to receive his emails.

I think what's going on is that when he posts a message to Groups.io his message is sent back to him, with the group footer appended & etc. His email service sees that message, which says it was From him, but was actually sent by some other service. So in that strict sense they are correct: Groups.io "spoofed" the member's address into the From of the posted message.

Maybe there's a setting he can use to "white list" Groups.io as a sender, or maybe he needs to contact his service's tech support and ask them how to avoid this message when using mailing lists. Most mailing lists (including Yahoo Groups, pre-DMARC) would do the same thing so it is something they ought to know about and be able to handle.

Either that or they don't want to support customers who use mailing lists, and he should take a hint.

I, too, am running Thunderbird (52.6.0, 32-bit, on Win10), and see the same behavior (clicking on a "mailto:..." link in the digest opens a new, blank, tab in T-bird, in addition to opening a new message composition window).? This isn't limited to the Groups.io digest, though -- I'm seeing the same behavior in other emails (e.g. one I received from Yahoo groups).? However, it doesn't behave this way for all "mailto" links, and I haven't figured out what's different about the ones that make the extra noise (looks to be something about the surrounding HTML, though).

Re: re changing members address

Win,

One of my members has emailed me asking if I could change the address
with which he joined the group.
Is that possible for me to do, or does he have to do it himself?
He has to do it for himself.

If so, how?
Via his Account page. He'll have to log in to Groups.io, then click on his name in the upper right and select Account. The first thing on that page is a box where he can change his email address.

Re: How can I close a poll?

It's a bit convoluted right now, but there are changes planned according to the TODO list, .? To close a Poll, go to the message and select Edit Poll from the More menu.? Once that page opens, the Close Poll button is at the bottom.? If you change your mind, you can go back to the same place and click Reopen Poll.

To limit the time it's open, sort of, you can edit the hashtag #Poll and set the Duration, then choose Lock Topic just below that.? Choices are One Hour, One Day, One Week, One Month, One Year, and Forever.? The limitations here are that the time will be the same for all polls and you can only Lock the topic, not close the poll.? You'd still need to follow the above to close it officially.

There's currently no way to have the results emailed to you, but it has been requested.? For now, you have to go to the message and look at who responded.

When replying online, there are a couple of options.? You can select a bit of the post that you want to quote, as I did here, before hitting the Reply button and it will be copied in.? If you want to quote the entire post, you can select the little talk bubble at the top left of the Reply box after it opens to have it inserted.? I don't remember a way to set anything as a default though.

Re: Address to contact group moderators #moderation #subgroups

Marina,

I am going to create a private subgroup for moderators of main group.
Should members of main group need to contact moderators, how could
they do?
There will be two ways they could do it.

1) First is by using the primary group's +owner address. That's the approach suggested by Frances. The address would be something like [email protected]

Note that each moderator/owner has an option in their subscription whether to receive all +owner messages, none, or only those from members.

Messages sent by a member to the +owner address are also collected in the member's page (click through that member's row in the Members list). There's a tab on that page for them. Alas, there isn't (as yet) a central list of all messages sent to the +owner address, nor a place that collects replies from the mods/owners. Both have been requested in beta. However there are items in the group's Activity page for these messages.

2) Having created a private subgroup for the moderators provides a second way the members could reach them. If in that subgroup's settings you check the "Allow Non Subscribers to Post" box then primary group members could post messages to the moderator subgroup. The address for that would be something like: [email protected]

Using this second has the advantage of posting the member's message in a place with an archive, and where the moderators can discuss the message by posting in either email or using the subgroup's reply on site.

Is there a way to set up a specific address to be used by all
moderators?
An advantage to (1) is that moderators working on site can reply to the member, and have the reply come from the group's +owner address. So in that sense all the moderators would be using the same address.

In (2) I don't think there's a corresponding way for a moderator to reply to the primary group member and have that come from the moderator subgroup address. Hm... Maybe that should be a feature request in beta.

However the moderator could use the Members list in the primary group to send a message to the member - but it wouldn't be a reply to their post so the moderator would have to manually copy/paste any desired quote.

Re: Rejected members?

Marcia,

I have questions of a pending member before I can accept her: If I
reject, can she rejoin with corrected info?
If you reject, yes. If you ban then no.

Or, is it better to wait for the answers to my questions and then
accept or reject.
That's probably friendlier in the eyes of the prospective member. Receiving a rejection might discourage them from joining or be interpreted as a final judgement.

Re: Approving new members

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The invite feature automatically adds the member to the list, something which I am not so thrilled about, because I require a membership questionnaire for each new member. Maybe that is your issue, too?

I believe the poles are 24 hours in length, I have not found a way to increase said length, but the results will be sent to the group and you as well at the end.

I believe this is email specific, that is, email program specific. I can select part of the mesage let's say and when hitting reply it will quote ?it and I ca reply at the bottom or top if I wanted to.

In our new list, we've had a few instances of long threads with multiple confusing replies, like "I can do that" or "Yes, I agree" that have no connected context.
