This is the drop-down that shows up under my test account (which is set to Moderator) when clicking on a member.

I found this exceedingly hard to believe so I checked - and it's true. "Set Moderator Privileges" sounds pretty innocuous compared to what it actually allows. It should be labeled more strongly, like "Set any subscriber to member, moderator, or owner" or some such thing.

No, that was changed about a year ago.

It?was only?after a member, who had no business writing what she did to my group, told the group that?Groups IO will be charging groups?with over 100 members and she was leaving and going over to MeWe and then gave the link to her new group that I had to say something to my groups because many of them were in panic mode. I?was getting mail from them asking me if I knew what was happening and if I heard such a thing. So rather then write everyone individually?who was inquiring I ended up saying something to my groups. ?
?
What she left out was it was for "newly created groups after Jan 18th" and my groups and every other group in existence right now would be grandfathered in.

There's a thread over on beta about group members finding out about potential per-member pricing changes from their group owner and leaving GIO as a result. My position had been that I wouldn't say anything about this unless I knew specifically how and when my members would be impacted by pricing changes. But now it seems that people are hearing about the pricing discussion through the grapevine - without context or clear understanding, of course - so I'm forced to consider whether to pre-emptively issue some kind of reassurance.?

Anyone else noodling about this?

If someone has the permission "Set Moderator Privileges," I believe that person can make someone, including themselves, owner. This happened in our group but I don't know if it's been changed since then.

Probably.? If there's at least one moderator with all permissions, the moderator(s) should be able to do anything except create an owner or delete the group.

No - only the calendar and wiki can be made public. (I thought it was possible to make the message archive public but either that option has been removed or my memory is faulty.

I had to get around this for a certain set of photos by using a google photo album?and putting a link to it on our main page.

Once the archives are made private, they can't be returned to public.? It's a one way street.

Sorry, I remember a thread about this, but I couldn't find it in the archives:

No.? The only photo that can be seen by the public is the group cover photo.? For any others, they must be a member.

Re: Single Owner Group - Owner Deceased

PS. The example I cited has the advantage of not asking the family for actual access to their loved one's email account, nor does it require them to log into his account and promote someone, which they might find onerous or feel is somehow risky.

You could try using your device in landscape mode, but the only sure way is to use a computer with a large browser window.

Re: Single Owner Group - Owner Deceased

That's exactly what I did. It's really your only option.

Our 1000-plus member Yahoo group lost our owner 4 years prior to the Yahoo exodus. I asked questions in the group about him and where he lived. I then paid for Whitepages Premium to find his address info and called his surviving spouse who, fortunately, responded to my voicemail. Her daughter got involved and found the owner's group password. She helped us get it reset so I could log in as him. I immediately added 2 more owners and that was all we needed. I sent them a popular restaurant gift card for their trouble.

Good luck!

I meant, "to any group of?which the owner was a member."

Re: Single Owner Group - Owner Deceased

This happened in a group of which I'm a member. After making arrangements with the late owner's family, the moderator went to groups.io/login > Email me a link to log in and entered the owner's email address. When the link arrived at the owner's email inbox, the family forwarded it to the moderator and he was able to log in as the owner.?

Note that this is done at the account level, so the moderator would now have access to any group of this the owner was a member.

Re: Can't access messages #messages

Annie, are you saying that the Messages and New Topic links are missing from the left-hand menu?

Re: Group no longer receiving posts

Problem resolved. iOS gMail was not syncing. I rebooted my iPad and the posts were sent.
