Right. I meant other members don't see it. Unless, perhaps, you can allow members to see Admin, ?Members. But I was unclear.?Thanks for the clarification.

Free Google Groups let you do direct adds, as long as the group does not have adults-only content.

This is based on the setting in Default Subscription Size.

Or the member has set in in Subscription, Advanced Preferences.
/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/controlling-your-email-subscription-preferences/advanced-preferences?single=true

It is not visible in Directory, only in Admin, Members.
I believe you can only change it if you set it as owner as a default by changing attachment size.

I can't see anything about forwarding the email in the instructions.? If you right-click the link and select copy you can end up with the mailto: tag being included and if you paste that into the To: field on a new email then the address will be invalid. I have not been able to do anything (so far) that ends up with %2B in the address though.

Re: New groups.io pricing structure

Sandi D.

BillSF9c,
There are a number of free and lower cost alternative depending on what your needs are.??is still available

The very basic free forums have ads, allow logins, but not no attachments, only posts
The forums that charge, adjust their prices in various tiers that are lower that $20 a month for more than 100 members, but again, no file storage, wiki, calendar, database, etc. Some do allow image attachments.?There are free and paid platforms that allow you to create your own forum and pay them a hosting fee.?

There is for national hobby clubs and organizations that operated large numbers of chapters in a regional area. There are no limits how many people in a group. It's free and has no ads. Everything is online: posts, calendar, event management, files, photos. A digest is offered but it contains only posted subjects each member opts to follow and has no content. Members must log in to access the actual posted content. It highly values member privacy.?

is another type of group. It's based in the UK. The lowest tier has most of GIO's Premium features for $12 a month allows 500 members.?

I am most familiar with??as I have used them for the past 15 years. I have both free personal GGs and domain/educational GGs which are housed under?.?The reason I came to GIO was because one of the NPs, I assist was against forcing their members to use any service with requires someone to create an account. GIO met that requirement.

I currently "own" 5 GGs for some NPs that I assist as well as for my personal use. The are a part of Google Workspace (GW).?One person would pay?$6 a month to have a Google Workspace (GW) account where he/she could create as many groups and directly add as many members to them as they need. The advantages to the paid GW GG is Google Sites which acts as a Wiki and the ability to directly add members.?

If you don't need a wiki or direct add, then you can create a free GG. Your GG members would need their own Google accounts to participate in Meets/Hangouts (GIO Chat), and create shared files, photos, databases, calendars, surveys (Google forms), etc.?

There's a lot of information out there if you search "internet groups" and "internet forums". Like GIO, many will make changes to their current features and pricing.

Cannot upload large binary file

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I am trying to upload a 2.6 gb binary file to the files section of my group.

It fails, in firefox, after a minute or two with a lost connection message in the browser.

On Chrome it fails as well and I see this message from nginx:

413 Request Entity Too Large

I had assumed that I have 20 Gb file space for my group, and I want to use it to distribute? large important file to the members.

Re: Rejected Reject Message

OK, I think Andy, Chris, Duane and particularly Jim have cracked it.

If I just click the link in the approval/rejection message then the mailto address has plusses not "%2B"s.?

If, on the other hand, I follow the instruction in the message, copy the link and forward the mail to a pasted forwarding address, then the "%2B"s appear in the address and the mail is rejected.

Maybe the "forward" should be reworded to stop dumb old geezers like me taking them too literally?

regards,
Ian

Re: New groups.io pricing structure

BillSF9c,

For any and all groups I am in & own, it it untenable if they grow.
No groups that currently exist or that are created before Jan 18th are affected by the new pricing structure. Which may or may not be changed before it goes into effect; possible changes are, I think, why Mark has opened the topic for comment.

Basic groups that upgrade to Premium will maintain the pricing that is or was in place at the time of their upgrade.

To see a group that could soon use an extra Gig in the semi-near
future burdened with buying 30... yes, not 20 - 30 now, when 1G would
last us another 20 years, is just unworkable.
The price does not increase, only the amount of storage.

If you decide to upgrade to Premium before the new pricing goes into effect you'll get the benefit of the increased storage, but without the $0.55/yr/member charge for members over 400.

Where else can lists/grouos, go?
It depends on the needs of the group. There are a number of alternative services out there, each having different pros and cons from the point of view of any given group.

For groups that are primarily email lists Google Groups is frequently cited. But I haven't used one in many years and haven't researched them. Others may have relevant knowledge.

Yup. Just read it. 2 weeks old and somehow I missed it. For any and all groups I am in & own, it it untenable if they grow.

I'd be happy to see a list of alternatives to IO. I too must plan for the future.

I'm sure it was not intended, but to pkan this or that and then find a group started in September has no File or Photo section...

To see a group that could soon use an extra Gig in the semi-near future burdened with buying 30... yes, not 20 - 30 now, when 1G would last us another 20 years, is just unworkable.

Re: Why is my message not showing up? Group was NOT in Announcement Only.

Janie,

I tried twice to post that the group will be closed until Monday
morning.
How did you post to the group?

Via New Topic or Reply on the group's pages? Or via email to the group's posting address?

And twice It has never showed up. What's going on?
Never showed up where?

Do you mean that the posting never appeared in the group's messages section? Or do you mean you never received it in your email inbox?

Either way, as Chris suggested a look in your group's Activity log is your best initial diagnostic. If the message is logged there the log entry will tell you what happened. If the message is not logged there then you may have addressed it incorrectly.

If you cut-and-paste anything from a web site, you could easily insert an image without knowing it. It only has to be one pixel.

I tried it on my (premium) test group.? It tells you "That address is already registered." and doesn't change anything, so it can't be done with an email address that already has an account.? They'll need to unsubscribe and/or delete one of the accounts for themselves or you could remove one of them on the group.

Well, not to argue but it doesn't really make a difference; in order to have multiple group accounts you have to have multiple (at least as many) GIO accounts.? Or maybe I misunderstood what you are trying to say

>>> Does this member belong to other groups in Groups.io? Does the member own any?

I haven't asked yet, but I'll make sure; I highly doubt he owns any groups although he could be member of others.? I'll definitely explain to them doing this will also change everything else they belong to, nobody likes (unwanted) surprises!

Cheers,
Christos

Well, the member's manual says:

?

If you have two (or more) Groups.io accounts, you can merge them into one account so you can access all your groups from one account.
?
! Important: The Groups.io account (or accounts) you want to deactivate and merge into another account should not own any groups. Otherwise, you risk losing ownership of those groups. If you own any groups under an account you want to deactivate, you can designate another owner for those groups and then have that owner change your role in those groups from Owner to Member.
Source: ?/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/merging-accounts?single=true

So it is about multiple accounts within Groups.io, not multiple accounts just within your group. Does this member belong to other groups in Groups.io? Does the member own any??
