I created some groups towards the end of 2019 when Yahoo first announced it was in the first stages of its process of closing its groups down.

I created a signature for myself, but some how typed a small line under my name by mistake.. followed by a longer line. I created hash tags for my group.

I've tried to edit my signature to delete the line I want to remove. Doesn't work.. I've tried to delete everything, and save it... mistake still there.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Robert

Should a sender receive their own post in their email?

There seems to be cases where some senders don't get a copy of their post in their email. Does this sound right? Could it depend on their email service, or are we mistaken about what is supposed to happen?

Re: Sending messages to pending members #howto #membershipapplication

Thanks so much to everyone who suggested setting up the "Pending member" message - this is perfect.? You guys are the best :)

Re: New groups.io pricing structure

Sandi,

Many 501c3/NPs have less members than the Enterprise level is created
for. All of my groups are well below the 400 member level. Some are
barely over 100 people but the Premuim features would be useful to
have. Just not at the current model of NP pricing.
For a group of less than 400 members the regular Premium pricing ($220/yr) would be less than the NP pricing for Enterprise ($1100/yr).

Especially if I as one person have to pay an Enterprise discount for
each and every GIO NP group I create with each GIO group having less
than 150 members.
You don't have to pay for an Enterprise group just because you're a NP. You may not get a discount, but that's no reason to go to a higher- priced plan.

If Mark were to offer all his paid levels a NP discount, he will
potentially pick up some more money.
Maybe.

There's the question of whether more basic groups would upgrade to Premium NP than downgrade from regular Premium to Premium NP. The result could be a net loss of income instead of a gain. Also, the administrative cost of verifying NP status (especially internationally) may outweigh the potential income from discounted Premium groups.

I suspect it is very difficult to estimate how much price elasticity there is for the various service levels.

I have posted before, $10 a month is affordable to some of my NPs but
$20 a month breaks our budget.
I kind of feel that way about some of my groups, but mostly because I can't envision attempting to collect from the members. So those groups remain basic (and are glad to be "legacy enabled").

I do understand the "upgrade button solution" but I don't want to deal
with upgrading and then downgrading and experiencing features changes
that differ because of the dates that my different groups were
created.
You don't need to worry about the downgrading: one of the Premium plans is "for one month" - it downgrades automatically.

Duane has mentioned in a few topics that you could use a test group (one with no members except you and optionally your moderator team) as the means to make occasional donations. None of the regular group members would then experience any feature changes. One test group could serve for all of your regular groups, since there'd be no connection between them except for your ownership.

Signature not Appearing in Sub-group Posts #subgroups

I just setup a new IO Group a few days ago that has several subgroups underneath it.? It is a PREMIUM account.

I have a signature setup in the Parent Group subscription which also shows us in the subscription for each of the subgroups. I have both check boxes checked. ? If I change the signature for the Parent subscription it updates in all of the subgroups. ? That is is all GOOD.? If I create a new TOPIC message the signature appears.

When I create new TOPIC post for the sub-group? the signature does NOT populate in the message.? See attachment for examples.

Did I miss a setting somewhere when I set up the Group or the Sub-Groups?

Thank you in advance.?? Any insight would be helpful.

Not necessarily.? They can choose Special Notices Only.

You may want to disable the "No Email" option. I disabled it to make sure people get at least a summary email. That way i also will notice when somebody's email bounces.

I can't reconstruct this problem, either. It's possible that someone else deleted this text by mistake. Check your Activity log (select "Edited group member notice" from the Actions pull-down menu). Any recent log entries (since about mid-July) will record which notice has been edited.

Hope this helps,

They are still in the file so I could take the extra steps to find it - copy and paste but I hope this is an easy fix
for Mark.

Wondering if anyone else noticed it.

It seems to be working on my test site. Is it still a problem?

Ah, one other thought.? Maybe a moderator on another group (JN-monroe and McCalip) changed the email address.?
Duane
That's what happened. I contacted Walt Reitz, and he confirmed that he's in a Vietnam Veterans' group, and those two guys (monroe/mccalip) are moderators. That group just moved away from yahoo.com this week (yahoo discussion group support ended on Tuesday, Dec. 15), and there was some confusion surrounding the move.

I'll file an amendment to the bug report I sent in on Wednesday. It looks like lazy programming, to me. It's good that the change to my member's record was logged where I can see it. But it would be less likely to engender confusion if a bit of text were altered. Something like

A moderator in another discussion group changed name <address>'s email address from name@address via web

would be less likely to confuse the innocent.

You don't have to do this.? I found the template for "Pending Subscriptions" under Settings/Member Notices.? Simply click on the plus sign to add a new notice, then select "Pending Subscription".

When you use this option, you should see a screen like the one attached. You can select the "From" address in a dropdown list, and you can select a box at the bottom "Bcc: Me" and/or "Bcc: All moderators".

Tip: remember to add "PRIV" to the subject line, otherwise it will appear to the user as if this message comes from the group.

Michele -- Please consider setting up a Pending Subscription notice that asks these same questions. The notice will automatically be sent to anyone who applies to join your (Restricted) group. See the FAQ at?/helpcenter/faq/1/group-owner-moderator-faq/q-can-i-screen-prospective-members-who?for details.

As Pat stated, such a message is usually shown as being from the +owner address. You can instead select your personal email address by pulling down the From: menu in the message composition page before sending. If you want a copy of what you sent, be sure to BCC yourself...it is not stored anywhere in the system.

Responses to the +owner address will come back to the group and are stored in the "+Owner Messages" section of each individual's membership record:

+Owner messages from non-members will not be forwarded to your personal email address unless you have the "All Emails" radio button selected in your own Subscription:

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Is it correct to assume that you have a Restricted Group, where individual membership requests require? moderator approval?

If yes, then why not use the "Pending Subscription" message system which sends a "please provide a bit more information" message to applicants? Replies go to the "+owner" email address which is actually your personal email address but which is hidden from the applicant?

Re: Sending messages to pending members #howto #membershipapplication

I've been doing the same, but I do see that the "from" address in these emails is the group owner's address ([email protected]). If you are the group owner, and they reply to said message, you should be getting a reply sent to your personal email address (the address you used when you started the group).?? So far I've only used that "send email" twice, and both times I have not received a reply.? I did check on our old group's member list, and both times, they did not appear on it.

Duane,
Do you know if the API has endpoints that could be used to automate the process? I have 630 members that need to be contacted to verify participation.

Re: New groups.io pricing structure

Sandi D.

I replied to Mark's post on the pricing in the Beta Main forum.

NPs with smaller numbers of members can make a significant difference.?

The point I tried to make in the other form is that, yes, smaller member NPs like ours can hang out in the free group, but it's not like we expect something for free.

Well yes, some do, but I suspect a significant number are able to pay or want to pay something. After all we are in the business of charity and recognize the costs of overhead to do business. In my case, my "small" 501c3 groups on GIO cannot afford the Enterprise level, even with a NP discount.?

If Mark were to offer all his paid levels a NP discount, he will potentially pick up some more money. Right now the only choice for them is Free or Enterprise. Nothing in between. I have posted before, $10 a month is affordable to some of my NPs but $20 a month breaks our budget.?

I also like the idea of those who have suggested to Mark a donation button. I for one, would make donations on behalf of my free groups. I do understand the "upgrade button solution" but I don't want to deal with upgrading and then downgrading and experiencing features changes that differ because of the dates that my different groups were created.
