Thanks for the feedback Shal, it is very helpful to know the current state and what I can do with it. I can work from that.

The closest to that is the Message History table near the bottom of your
group's home page. But that's on a per-month basis.

I'm confused by this. I see that I can change my members' email addresses, and that this changes the address for their whole account. But I do not see a way to change my own email address in my subscription settings. Can someone point me in the right direction?
To change your email address, go to your name in the top right corner of one of your groups.

BTW, this thread is about advanced preferences for subscriptions. Not email addresses.

Converting Archive.org WARC files to MBOX-like files

Hello everyone

As you may be aware, Archive.org has some old Yahoogroups archives available, here:

The archives are WARC files, zipped as GZ files. The WARC files are plain text files with records that appear to have been created by a Yahoogroups download script of some kind.

I have written a short AutoIt script that attempts to convert the WARC file to an MBOX-like file that Thunderbird accepts. Dunno, this may be useful for group who want to get access to some of the old message of "sister groups" that dealt with the same or a similar topic.

My script doesn't go further than convert the WARC file to a file that Thunderbird accepts. For example, I believe threading information is contained in the WARC file but my script doesn't attempt to parse it.

It shows 8000+ "results", but many results contain the data from multiple groups.

I'm not sure if there are only 8000 groups or if there are 8000 groups of groups. If I search for a keyword, it says e.g. "2 results", but those 2 results contain the data for 150 groups each.

I'm not sure if all results contain the data for 150 groups or if some results contain the data for fewer groups if they are very large groups. But if the former, then the potential number of groups is 1.2 million.

None of the groups' data that I have seen so far were from takeout requests but rather from download scripts like IgnoredAmbience's. This means that they do not contain full e-mail addresses and they often have character encoding problems.

If you select "all messages" it automatically deletes the selection "Following Only". You can't have "all messages" and "following only".

You have to select auto-follow replies to get replies from topics that you started or wrote a reply to.?

If you select Following only, you receive only the messages (individually or in digests, depending on your Email Delivery setting) posted to the group that are in topics you are specifically following or that are tagged with one or more hashtags you are specifically following.
i.e. you can choose to follow any or all topics and hashtags you are interested in.

I would opt for New Messages Also.
You receive the first message of each new topic, regardless of the fact that you have not yet followed that topic. This setting helps you to manage the amount of email you receive from a very active group. It allows you to know that a given topic has been posted so you can then decide whether to follow any additional messages in that topic.
Note: You cannot select this checkbox unless you select Following Only.

Otherwise you won't get new messages from other members in your email. You can read them on the group site and choose to follow them from there.

Re: Calendar Permissions #calendar #question

Is there an option or way to have an event automatically locked after the date has passed?

A member updated an old event as Not Attending and others were removed from the old event Waitlist, and put as Attending and were sent the acceptance email.? This got confusing because there was a similar upcoming event? and they did not read the date.

Thanks,
Charlie

Re: New option to move a Yahoo group to: forums.group

The archive.org capture seems to have been quite limited. You had to receive a request from them (or otherwise know grant them privileges) and invite them in order for them to do a capture. And the movement arose with a short timeline. I don't think many folks were aware of it.

bug about rejection?

I received 3 messages in my group and rejected them together by clicking the three boxes. I added the reason for rejection and ticked "CC to all moderators"

Then I received the notification about just ONE of the rejections.

Shouldn't I receive a notification about all three?

If you have following selected, you can also see the button Follow this topic for the message in your group home page.
(Sorry for the delay - had to test.)
So you would get the first message of each new topic. You can choose to follow future replies to that thread, either from the footer of the email or from the message on your group homepage.

Like groups.io, most of the discussion I'm seeing on the forums.group site revolve around restoration of a user-provided getmydata download from the [now-defunct] Y!G privacy dashboard.

There's no mention of restoring all the messages from any group that
was posted AFTER the Dec 14 Yahoo cutoff date for storing messages, so
the last year's worth of messages would only be available if the
archive group continued gathering the posts from all the groups.

If they continued gathering the posts, then this would be a big bonus,
and then you might be able to pay for that feature, gather all the
messages, then move them to GIO somehow. Or just leave them there then
downgrade to the basic free group.

This would open some new options for people.

Can you tell us where you got that information from?? The only mention of Archive.org that I can find on their site is on the FAQ page:
?

Can I find my Group's Archives at Archive.Org?

Archive.org has been archiving the messages of as many groups as possible. They also joined a lot of YahooGroups in order to obtain the MBox files from Yahoo before they stopped that service. Their work can be downloaded from https://archive.org/details/archiveteam_yahoogroups, although the formats used are not easy to use. We are investigating if we can use these archives to restore YahooGroups.

By the way, the format that I saw used on Archive.org's Yahoogroups archives is the format in which mails were downloaded if you downloaded them using the scripts that were used a year or two ago (such as the one by ).? So no, they're not MBOX files, but I'm sure they can be converted to MBOX using just a little bit of skill.

The closest to that is the Message History table near the bottom of your group's home page. But that's on a per-month basis.

If not, maybe something to think about adding to the next development
sprint. :)
I don't know Groups.io uses any Agile development formalities, but in any case GMF is a user-to-user forum: no one from Groups.io monitors the messages here.

The official suggestion box for Groups.io is the beta group:

The subject of member metrics has come up a time or two before, but I'm not finding a topic that is directly what you're looking for.
