Re: Where Is Admin Area?

Lee,

If you are not into GIO with the same email that you used when you created
the group, you are someone else. That's my first guess. The other is that
you are on the web, but just viewing public views and you aren't logged in
at all. Either of these sound possible.

Re: Where Is Admin Area?

It should look like this photo. Note the word "Owner" next to the Home link.

Is it possible you have more than one account, and that you're logged into a different account than the one you used to start the group?

Log in with the email address you used to create the group (unless you changed it on the group.).

Admin is a dropdown menu. Open it up.

Re: Question about owner being unsubbed

Thanks it never said spam. It just said I was unsubbed by me
via the web. It did have a link to reinstate myself if this was an
error. Maybe because I am an owner and saw I got unsubbed
it was giving me a chance to reinstate myself.
The issue I have is it was not spam and I did not do this.
I only have one other owner who I am very good friends with
and she did not do this. It is really puzzling me.

I did have a member who left last night but she couldnt unsub
me since she is not a mod or owner?

Thanks. Will just move on and hope it wont happen again.

Anita

It is below ¡®Subscription¡¯ and above ¡®Messages¡¯ near top left.

?

You only see ¡®Admin¡¯ there if you are a group owner or moderator in a particular group.? The word ¡®Owner¡¯ appears next to the little house icon for ¡®home¡¯

?

If you are an ordinary member of a group there is nothing between ¡®Subscription¡¯ and ¡®Messages¡¯

You will only see it if you're signed in as the group owner or a moderator with enough permission.

I am now wondering about Directory.?
As you can see from the URL, this is for premium, enterprise as well as legacy enabled groups.
Does this mean that there is no Directory option or choice available with new groups?

This section of the Help says:
Customizing settings for Premium and Enterprise features
Locating the feature settings
Note: The features listed here are available in Premium (trial or paid) and Enterprise groups. Most of them are also available in legacy Basic groups (those created before August 24, 2020). None of these features are available in new Basic groups created on or after August 24, 2020.
?
And includes Directory options (disabling, who can view).

Weird? Wrong label or section of the Help?

Re: Profile and Directory Query #profile #directory

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Many thanks Duane. I now understand that?Member Directory and Member List are two separate things. I have also read through the link Bruce sent:

I have set up a test member account with another of my email addresses so I can check the functionality.?

As the owner, when I go to Settings, Privacy, and set the Member List to "Owners Only" (as I now understand this is totally separate to the Member Directory) then when I log in as a group member I do not get a menu option to see the Directory - even when I set the Profile Privacy to ¡°other members of your group¡±.?

When I log back in as the group owner and look back at the link above that Bruce sent - see the screenshot attached - green arrow says I should have an option as the group owner to go to group settings, under Privacy, see Member Directory, but I don¡¯t have that I have only Member List Visibility under Privacy as group owner - see second screenshot. No option for Member Directory, only List.?

So I am still stumped. Sorry if I¡¯ve missed something obvious, but any other ideas?

Member Directory and Member List are two separate things.? The Member List shows everything you as owner can see about a person.? Member Directory only shows what a person puts in their public Profile to others that have made their Profile public.? Anita -- I'm hearing conflicting information.?Your best route to track this down is the activity log.

If you unsubbed, it will say "Display Name <email @address> left via web." In this case, you will not receive a confirmation email with any link to immediately rejoin.

If you (or your ISP) marked a group message as spam, it will say "Display Name <email @address> reported a message as spam and was removed via email." There is no way to mark a message as spam using the groups.io web interface.

Usually if you get unsubbed because of spam it will say that but it
didn't. I was wondering how this could happen and if someone
could unsub you after they left the group to get back at you for
some crazy reason.
It's possible that a co-owner or Moderator kicked you off the group, but that shouldn't send you any auto-resub link, either. A Member Notice of type Goodbye could contain a link of some kind, but such a link wouldn't automatically add you back.

Again, check the log.

Bruce

Are you sure that Members are seeing this, or just you (as Owner)? Are you looking at the Directory, or the Member List? They are not the same thing.?

The Directory is an index of Member profiles. Until each Member creates a profile and shares it, they shouldn't be able to see each other in the Directory at all.

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/6114?

1. How does a member hide their personal email address if they do not want it seen by other members?
Each profile must have a label of some kind.
  • If a group Display Name is populated, then that is used as the profile label, and will be shown here.
  • If a Member hasn't populated a Display Name, their system-wide @username will appear here, if available.
  • If neither Display Name or a system-wide @username is populated, their email address will show up as myemail@... (no domain information).?
Only Owners and Moderators can see the full email address.?

2. How do I set it up so that their photo and bio details also show? But their personal email does not?
As stated above, personal emails do not display for Members, only Owners and Moderators.

Each Member has to create their own profile and share it. You cannot create a profile for them.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Question about owner being unsubbed

Anita,
That sounds a lot like the usual route for a spam message type event. GIO
gets a notice of a spam reject, it flags the account and generates the
message. While it says it unsubscribes, it still knows all the groups that
user was in so they all get reenabled when the message about being cut out
'by mistake' gets the right reply. While it had said the person was
unsubscribed, I suspect it is really just a special state of nomail awaiting
the reply.
