I agree, seniors tech-savvy, maybe in a more in-depth way though. If we could operate and use CP/M and 86-DOS based systems we were tech-savvy. To many today tech-savvy means being able to use bloated operating systems without understanding them.

I'm been a senior for quite awhile now (Where did the time go), and my first personal computer operated on Windows NT 3.1. Personal computers have been around quite awhile, but Smartphones have not. Forums like Groups.io have been around a long time too, and I think there are more seniors familiar with the digital age than you think. I used to love walking around CompUSA.

If she marks in as Not Spam yahoo mail should automatically move it to their in-box.
As I have a yahoo e-mail account which I use for only certain mail: Ex from family or from my doctor's and at first they were getting marked as spam and moved to that folder.
After marking them as not spam I have had no further issues other than the occasional new messages that would get marked as spam.

This from Mark on beta...

Groups.io has received letters from a law firm apparently representing the Freecycle trademark holder in the UK, stating that a particular group with freecycle in the name is infringing on their trademark. I have not yet asked that group?to change their name, but I may have to. To head off any new issues, no more groups with freecycle in their name. Note, I have no idea if the demand is legally valid or not.

Anne,

Thanks. We had moved before Yahoo shut down and it was a smooth process to transition to groups.io. More recently I needed to update group settings (I'm the Group Owner), but received an error when trying to save changes. I changed the group title (not the email) slightly and was able to make the moderation changes. Hopefully most of the freecycle groups aren't impacted. I appreciate everyone's input to resolve this issue.?

Most of our local Freecycle groups have switched to groups.io with no problems; all have the word "freecycle" in the group name.? Most of us transferred from running our groups on Yahoo, having left the Freecycle.org fold long ago.

I wouldn't think there's much, if any, of a line.? One thing I noticed in Mark's message is "I ask that people put their archive on a file sharing service, like Dropbox, and then send a link to that to support, because sending large files over email, especially to the CRM system I use for support, does not work very well."? Maybe there was a problem with the files you attached?

Wait time for message upload to Premium groups?

Anyone know how much of a queue there is now (and how long a wait) to have messages uploaded to a Premium group?

I upgraded a group (created 2020-01-14) to Premium ($220 payment) on 2020-10-15.
(Upgrade confirmed in Billing section with 2020-10-15 renewal date)

I emailed <[email protected]> Fri 2020-01-16 6:09pm EDT to upload 2 zip files of messages (attached)
my YahooGroups GetMyData download, and 2019-12-29 to 2020-10-15 message in (we think) mboxrd ) format.
(message receipt confirmed "Your request (15549) has been received and is being reviewed by our support staff.")

Members are getting restless waiting for the messages upload to use Groups.io instead of YahooGroups...

I just replied to confirmation messages asking:
"Please advise where we are in the queue (and when) to have our archived messages uploaded to <group name>"

Thanks,
Michael

Based on a quick test, if either contains the word freecycle, it will report it as an invalid group name.? I'll post it as a #bug on beta and see what happens.

Re: Fixing "Group email address invalid" #access #askmembers #bug

Are you trying to change the group name along with other changes?? or does the existing name have "freecycle" in the name? Try making changes without any change in the group name.? See if that goes through.

I tried and tried to make a group with "freecycle" in the name, came up "not valid" everytime.? If I happen to duplicate the name of an existing group it said "not available".? I think there is a block on using "freecycle".? I wrote and asked, about 3 days ago, but have not received a reply.

Our freecycle group has a shortened name, just initials, so I created a group with that name and that was accepted.? Then in the description I wrote out the full name with "freecycle" in the description, and that worked.? I checked search, and if you put in a search for a freecycle group in our area, our new group comes up.

I don't know why we cannot create groups with "freecycle" in the name.? There are already lots of groups at io that have freecycle in the name, but seems to be blocked now.

It's usually not the member's email system, it is the member either accidentally or intentionally reporting the message as spam. And when an email provider gets several reports of posts as spam it blacklists the group's messages, and sometimes all messages from gio.?

Can you give more details? Screenshots??

When you say "group email", I assume that you mean your email address that you use for the group.
Since you say that you are able to see settings, you are logging in.
But are you set as owner or moderator? If moderator, do you have permissions to make changes to settings?
Have you checked your activity and group activity?
