Re: How Can I Suspend Activity of a Group? #howto

Ann,

But I do need an answer to Francis' question: Can I change back from
an Announcement Group to a regular group with messages moderated and
posted.
As Frances reported, Yes.

I believe that the only setting you cannot change back is the choice to take the groups's Messages archive private (members-only). Once you do that you cannot revert it to Public again.

When you change to private a pop-up "Are you sure?" dialog appears to warn you that it is a permanent change.

Re: QUESTION - group message links

Hi Ellen

I am still unsure why you are insisting that subscribers must post via the web?

All posts whether via email or the web page end up in the same system, they are all distributed to all subscribers, all posts end up in the archive

If a non subscriber tries to post it would end up with a moderator

I just can't quite see what would be achieved by demanding subscribers post via the web but perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are aiming to do

If an email provider has problems thats another issue

Calendar and Zoom

I couldn't find anything in the Wiki about setting up a calendar Zoom meeting. I tried to do it, but there was no link, etc for the attendees to click (or copy/paste) to gain access. I did click the Zoom button and sign into Zoom when I created the meeting. What am I missing??

From earlier replies from Bruce and Frances, there is a way----turning the group for awhile into an Announcement Group.

It appears to me that they're using it.? They're sending messages to the group.? If the group or person is moderated, it will go into the pending queue.? If not, it will go to the archive and be sent to members.? This process is the same whether they send the message via email or web.? I don't see what the problem is.

Check your activity log (Admin>Activity). The log entry associated with each message will tell you why it was moderated ("requiring approval because...")

When a message is sent to the [groupname]+owner address, it will be shown as "Message to +owner" in the log.? The message itself, assuming the person is a member of the group, will be under the person's member record on the "+owner Messages" button.

I didn't new that NMM status got automatically turned off!? Good to know.

Anyway, in this case it appears that one of the other moderators got to it before I did and that's why the message was gone, but I'm not sure why the message got routed to moderation in the first place.? Will have to dig into that further.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Group Owner Email "Sent" folder? #email

John Pearce

I have in the past seen the owner+messages saved.? It's just difficult to get to.? What you do is go to your group online and login.? Then go to Admin/activity.? The default display is "all activity".? Filter it with the "message to +owner choice in the dropdown list and click on search.? You will find the one you want, the line looks like this:

I've changed the email address but the your signature line was the subject.? Note it says to owners via email.

John qpublic <john@...> sent message "RE: Your Signature line" to owners via email

The weird part is I can't find any other way to get to it.

Check the time of those messages by hovering over the date.? I'm guessing that you'll see there was a timeout (unsuccessful), but when GIO retried later, it was accepted (successful).? In that case everything is working as it should be.? I believe that would be a problem with the prodigy server, but it was definitely a problem with the sites communicating.?

Unable to successfully send posts to Bellsouth subscribers

For the last several days subscribers with Bellsouth emails in two groups that I own aren't receiving posts. Does anyone know if there is a fix?
Thanks,

You mean like "this group will not send out any e-mails from july 1st to august 31st and pending messages will not be deleted automatically"?

As far as I know there are no provisions for that

Re: QUESTION - group message links

Hi Ellen

I can't tell you if you can block copy and paste, but I very much doubt it as its on the persons computer

What you need to do is educate your subscribers not to use copy and paste

As far as I can see they *are* using groups.io emails as they are using a groups.io address

Instead of using reply they are just creating the same email as though they used reply

You need to educate them to use the "From" personal address and not any with groups.io in , any address with groups.io in will go through the group and everyone will get a copy

Some email addresses are munged, so again its a matter of educating them how to spot them and how to deal with them

ie yours, change the = to @ and remove the @groups.io

<[email protected]>;?
I think you're asking if there's a way to prohibit posting to a group via
email and require all posts to use the web interface. I'm not aware of a
setting that allows that.

Imagine you had such a setting. How would take advantage of it? There may be
other ways to accomplish your overarching goal, if we know what it is.
