Re: How Can I Suspend Activity of a Group?
#howto
Thanks to both of you for the info. ?But I do need an answer to Francis' question: Can I change back from an Announcement Group to a regular group with messages moderated and posted. ?It is imperative that I am able to do that. This would only be a time-limited suspension of member posts.

You can do this in your Spam Control setting. ? Is there a way to send out a Special Notice on a daily basis, if needed?Automatically? The only way I know of to automatically send a message on a daily basis is to set up a recurring calendar event (or a single event with multiple reminders). Even then, it's a clumsy kludge at best. If you set the Special flag on the corresponding #cal-xxx hashtag then it will go out as a special notice. ? If a group can be suspended, what does a member receive if he/she tries to post a message?Messages sent to an Announcement group by non-Moderators are bounced with the following note: 500 This is an announcement group and you do not have permission to post to it. Re: QUESTION - group message links
Ellen Bourne
This is the copy and paste emailed that one member has been using to send emails.? They negate to use Groups.io to send emails.? They just place the below email into their personal email and send.? They cannot see why they cannot do this because it is an additional step. However the email goes into the activity log once they emailed. Is there away I could block the the copy and paste of the email link but not block the member? |

Re: Access to Member list only see a very small number of the users
Correct I meant Directory. ? ?I was hoping to use it as a "Address Book" so members could find each other. ?It appears that almost everyone has opted out of making their profile visible. ? So this solution will not work.
Thanks :D Joe |

Access to Member list only see a very small number of the users
This question has probably been asked before, couldn't find anything. ? I have changed permissions so any member can see other members and email address.
When a regular member signs in they can only see four members, do not see the much larger number of users. ? I need to know what is going on and how I can set a policy for all members of the group. Thanks :D |

So if he clicked on "reply to group" (instead of using the reply function of his email client) this would happen. It could be that he simply hit his mail program's "reply to all" button (not any of the links provided by groups.io).? Either out of habit, or thinking that it was a private conversation and wanting to include anyone else in the "private" loop. The underlying problem is that messages from groups.io are sent with headers which make MUAs (mail readers) "help" by including the group-post address in their built-in "reply to all" function. ? This happens EVEN IF the group is configured to only offer "Reply to Sender" and "No Other Options", so there is no "reply to group" link provided by groups.io in the message. There's an open bug in beta.groups.io about this.? Mark tried removing some headers which seemed likely to be causing this, but that didn't work. |
Hiding main group and subgroup info on home page
Is it possible to hide the names of the main group and member-visible subgroups on the home page to the public?
By "public" I mean someone not logged in or not a member of the main group. There are two things I want to do: 1. Make not show the name of the main group and its various email addresses to public viewers. These seem like just an invitation to be a nuisance. 2. Hide home page subgroup listing for the public viewers, but make subgroup list visible to main group viewers. I know I can make the subgroup invisible to non-subgroup members, which would remove it from the 2. list (I think), but I don't want to do that, because it also makes the messages inaccessible to non-subgroup members, which I don't necessarily want to do for main-group but not-subgroup members. Thanks, Dan |

Thank you for your responses. I would like to see the feature added in the future. For now, I will try Bcc: to me.

And how many of these "troublemakers"do you get, really, on an annual basis?? I agree the nature of a certain person could cause repeat behaviour, but is one person also a member?of that many different?groups or is it just an ?solated outbreak:you can handlel?locally".??? Re: Is there a group where troublemakers are listed?
There's a problem - consider this - ham radio operators and genealogists are two different groups.? Genealogists have many lists and there's one group of listowners including me, we will get in touch with each other real fast to review what necessary actions to take ourselves. One of the members sent an email around 12:08 pm this afternoon and again at 6:38 pm both of the emails never were sent or received by the group.A common issue is that the person sent the email to Groups.io from an address they are not subscribed with. As Duane said, the Activity Log is a good place to start checking. In particular, look for messages like: Non-member <email-address> attempted to send message "<message-subject>" via email If a person has a need to send a message from a different address, they should define an alias for their account. Details are given in the Member's Manual for this. Andy |
