invite list has to be approved?
I am moving a list from yahoo groups to groups.io.? Rather than migrating the list, which would create a different set of problems, we set up the group here, and sent an invite email to users of the old list, using the invite function and a text file.? I uploaded the text file and got this message:
Once your invites have been approved, they will be sent out. You will receive a notification when this happens. I am wondering, approved by whom? I have not seen this message before when sending out invites. Does this mean that someone at groups.io has to look at the invite list before the invites go out? If so, does the number of emails in an invite list trigger this review? Does anyone know how long this takes? Thanks, Bill |

Duane, I know some plan to keep the Y! groups in place for awhile, if nothing more than an archive or pointer to io, Yup. A "we've moved" sign for anyone that comes across them. but will you eventually delete them?? Will you ask your members to delete their Y! accounts if possible? No and no. In fact I'll try to remember to keep my accounts active so that I can continue to "reject with reply" anyone who happens to post in those groups. Shal |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhen I set up our new group in groups.io, I devised a plan to attrition the Yahoo group and discussed with my co-moderator. Our plan was to eventually make our Yahoo group still open but inactive. I sent an email announcement to our Yahoo group with our plan, giving them sufficient time to set up an account on groups.io and joining our group. We don't plan to close our Yahoo group but just let it sit there, in case we need to go back to refer to old posts. There is nothing there in our Yahoo group that is THAT important to keep. I have our member list downloaded and any files that we have I have maintained myself. I wanted to post the announcement on the Yahoo banner of our home page regarding our move to groups.io, but with the neo have been unable to make any banner or home photo adjustments. Makes me even more grateful of our move to groups.io and wish we had done it much, much earlier.-----

Watching yahoo groups blow up ...Reports vary widely. Some users/groups have apparently been unaffected by recent outages while others severely so. In my experience the EMAIL route to invite/join is broken. The invited
member does receive the email but if they just reply to that nothing else happens and they are not subscribed. But if they click the link in that email which takes them to the group home page they can then complete the subscription. Groups.io presumably does that - remember they know all the ins and outs of yahoogroups. Whatever, invites for [email protected] clearly do work, many of us have done that recently. How do you set the reply to message only to the Sender ?As a matter of group policy, go to the Settings page and in the "Message Policies" section set the "Reply To" option to "Sender". If you're talking about replying to an individual message it does depend on the group policy (as above) and whether you're replying via the group's Messages section or via your email interface. Assuming the group is set to "Group", and replying via the Messages section, click Reply then look below the reply composition box and to the right. Click the "Private" button. That will change the green "Reply to Group" button to a blue "Reply to Sender" button. When you're ready to send your reply click that blue button. Assuming the group is set to "Group", and replying via your email interface, the details may depend on what email interface you're using. In Thunderbird, for example, I would copy your address in the From field of your message, click reply, then paste your address into the To field of my reply, replacing the group's address. Because your email address is modified for DMARC, I then have to delete the "@groups.io" part and replace the = sign with an @ sign. That is, convert: user = example.com @ groups.io into user @ example.com Shal |

Again, no harm in trying it. perhaps a Plan B is needed for transfers, if this is a more widespreadI think an email to [email protected], including the name of your Yahoo Group, is about as good a plan B as could be. Most common is that the invitation gets diverted to the invitee's Spam folder. Sometimes the invitee's email service drops or rejects the invitation. I suppose it is possible that sometimes Yahoo Groups fails to send the invite, but I don't know how to get evidence of that. I'd say try it (with [email protected]) anyway. If it fails no harm done and if it works it saves you and Mark some time working around it. Shal |

If you can't you can't. But perhaps you could write to [email protected] and ask them to subscribe to your group. Assuming you can approve the transfer agent (if needed) and promote to moderator. I'm curious what happens when you try to invite someone. 1) Do you not even see the Manage Invitations item in the group's Management menu (meaning that you haven't been granted that privilege)? 2) Do you get some kind of error message when you fill in the Invite page? 3) Does the invite page seem to work, but the invitees never seem to get the invitation? 4) Something else? If (3) I would suggest trying that for the transfer address anyway. Mark is more savvy than the average user. Shal |
