How to correct how group name appears in email messages

My art guild (Clayville Calfornia) has a member group and a board of directors group.? To better differentiate the two group names and to avoid confusion for board members I changed the board's group name.? All is well EXCEPT that the old email name still appears in email messages even though the email name was changed successfully.? I wanted the word "Board" to appear first in the group name and email.

Group Name:??Clayviille California Board of Directors?is now?Board of Directors - Clayville California

Group email:??[email protected]?is now?[email protected]

Unfortunately, the subject line in email messages still comes up with the word "Board" at the end despite the sender using the email address shown above.?

[ClayvilleCaliforniaBoard]...........??

Any thoughts???

Thank you,

Maureen

Try the Concatenate function:

CONCATENATE(fncell, " ", lncell, " <", emailcell, ">")

You can update the welcome message at ??Is the email address at the bottom of the welcome message correct? What about the bottom of your welcome webpage?

Messages addressed either way both get through to the main site.
But showing one on the Group Settings page and another in the welcome message is undesirable.

Can I (as owner) change this so that the address noted everywhere is "[email protected]" (where xxx is "mygroupname")?

Thanks

Specifically have you set up a Pending Subscription notice; it is there for exactly the purpose in question.

The default Welcome message is initially defined when you set up the group, before you create any subgroups.

Messages addressed either way both get through to the main site.

No, but you can do it the other way around...edit the Welcome message to match what appears on the Home page.

Hello Debbie,

Have you set up any member notices?? I have a member notice set up where any new member applying to my group, has to respond to information sent them.

This is done through Settings>Member Notice.

At the same place you can set up a Member Notice called Goodbye.? That notice would be where you set up whatever information yoiu want from someone leaving a restricted group.? Whenever someone would leave the group they would receive this notice as to what information youi set up for members when they leave a group.

I hope this helps.? If not, maybe someone else can explain this better then I can.

Have a Great Day,

Doug

Re: Direct adding names as well as emails #addmembers

Too bad. ?Adding the brackets, and making several columns in a spread sheet into one is possible, but will take much manipulation with global find-and-replace commands in Excel and Office. I can do it.

A file cannot be opened without downloading it. Depending on browser add-ons, it may open as a temp file in a browser, and subsequently be deleted from the cache...but it's still being downloaded first.

Yes. Use the format:

Fname Lname <email address>?
Fname2 Lname2 <email address2>?
etc...

The file must be plain text, NOT Excel or CSV or anything like that. Be sure to include the angle brackets.

I will be direct adding new members by uploading a file. ?If I have a spread sheet with Fname, Lname, Email, can I add the names as well as the emails? ?

I know that I might be subjected to delays while Groups.io checks the list for spam. That should not be an issue; I cleaned the list before adding.

Ruth -- Not really, unless you want to make everyone who is allowed to get the files a Moderator.

Best practice is probably to place such restricted files in a separate group or subgroup...or if a Word or PDF document or something like that, you can password-protect the file(s).

New to Groups.io? Just setting up your group? #howtoguide #settings

There is a help page in the GMF wiki that walks you through the settings, including privacy, spam control, message policies, message formatting and features. Also Default Subscription settings, cover photo and group icon, and member notices.

Hi - I seem to have a similar problem. I have (in order):
  • set the default sub time zone (to London)
  • invited a couple of members
  • accepted the invitations (these are test addresses of my own)
If I send a few messages around and log in as one of those members the messages all have (I am guessing) Pacific time - for example a message sent/received at 17:03 London time shows a 9:03. I've double and triple checked and the groups settings for sub defaults are definitely set to London/Dublin etc, not the default.
Any ideas?
Have you set the preferences for your email account?

Please read this wiki page: ?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts%2C-Subscription

Set your time zone is in the same place as your editor preference.

It's a problem if the e-mail contains *only* HTML and does not contain a plain text version of the message too, but AFAIK GIO mails contain both.

Re: Converting PDF to RTF (was: Uploading files to Groups.io)

Nobody trusts Google with their data in our group circle.? When we moved from Yahoo, many spoke up to avoid anything Google based.? Thus, GroupsIO was the lead solution to migrate into.? Google is known for it's data privacy compromises, both willingly and unwillingly. It's been documented too many times to count by CNET and other tech news sites.? Sorry, Google is not a viable option for us.
